- I was recently asked what may favourite Dahlias were. Not an easy one to answer but i did promise to come up with a few out of the 100's we grow. I've concentrated on easy to grow garden varieties that will flower freely with minimal effort although as we all know, the more effort we put in, the better the performance we'll get. Hope you enjoy it.

Bought a number of plants from Halls. Always good quality and giving loads of flowers. Cut down after the first frost and mulch. Dig them up when they shoot in April-May and divide. More flowers for the next year. 😂
Just stunning. Stunning varieties and garden set up . Thanks for sharing :)

Brilliant display.
Thank you Mark. We're a bit later in getting to full flower this year, but, like most good things in life, worth waiting for!
Beautiful
Gorgeous collection! 😍 Could I ask where did you get the square wire support? It's the best one I've seen so far for dahlia support.
Did not get the whole name on the miniature Cactus, andromeda something? So beautiful, all of these
Bit late of a reply but "Josudi Andromeda"
👍👍👍🌸
Can you do a video on yellow dahlias
😎👍🏽
Amazing display.
What fertiliser do you use when in bloom. All my dahlias this year have had poor very thin stems. We have had excessive heat 45° down here in the south. Really late to bloom.
Thank you. Believe it or not they are still going with only few blooms out of the 000's on the plants nipped by a touch of frost. Base fertiliser is Fish Blood and Bone at a slightly higher rate than recommended and then the plants will have 3 or 4 liquid feeds applied through the driplines. The first of these would be balanced, the rest high potash, applied as soon as buds show. We are lucky in that the sight is very open so they get maximum sunlight throughout the day.
Here are you located?
There is so much choice! I would like to grow dahlias in my new garden when we move. More for cutting not showing, and I would like to become a flower farmer if my garden is of a decent size. Do you do paper catalogues?
Hello Julie, Yes we do have a paper catalogue- just our preliminary one at the moment so no pictures. However they are all available on our website at www.hallsofheddon.co.uk
Our main illustrated catalogue will be available for posting out at the end of December.
@@hallsofheddon6164 Thank you, I will be ordering one.
Very very beautiful, I am planning to upscale my dahlia growing and start growing them like you do in beddings with grass walkways. The spacing you have between the dahlias is 40 cm. What is the with of the beds and the paths? Do you have 2 or 3 plants next to each other?
Good morning Astrid. The pathways are 1.2m wide and the beds are just over 1m wide which allows us to use the support nets which are 5 x 20cm x20cm squares across. WE plant the 2nd and 4th row so in effect the plants are at 40 x 40cm apart.
@@hallsofheddon6164 thank you, very helpful!
Beautiful sharing
1mile of dahlias 100000 flowers stems, heaven on earth
It seems to me a someone with only a couple of years experience of dahlias, that those varieties that are most garden worthy are very different to those selected for flower arranging or for the show bench. Flower arrangers no doubt look for varieties with long stems and a great vase life that respond well to cut and come again. Singles are no good For that use. For shows I expect you look for perfection of flower form and colour? However, for the mixed border in a garden where I don't want to spend my life staking and thing in dinnerplate varieties I look for those which are naturally floriferous over a long season, with medium sized flowers of good colour, above attractive foliage. Often the singles perform best here as foliage may be bronzed, the leaves smaller and more attractive. I wish it was possible to have a filter on a specialist website so one could select varieties by such end requirements, lol
We'll have a look at this for next season. The search facility does bring up some single varieties but not all so we also need to look at wording in our descriptions. We realise there's always way for improvement but time and resources are a bit limited. Happy growing.
