Meerut, a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, is rich in history, culture, and industrial significance. Located about 70 kilometers northeast of the national capital, New Delhi, it is one of the oldest cities in India, with its roots tracing back to ancient times.
Meerut has a deep historical and cultural heritage. It is believed to be associated with the ancient Indus Valley Civilization and has been mentioned in the Indian epic Mahabharata as Hastinapur, the capital of the Kauravas. The city played a significant role during the First War of Indian Independence in 1857, also known as the Sepoy Mutiny. This rebellion against British rule began in Meerut when Indian soldiers (sepoys) revolted, which subsequently spread across the country. As a result, Meerut is often referred to as the "Cradle of the First War of Indian Independence.
Meerut is a major industrial hub in western Uttar Pradesh. It is well-known for its sports goods industry, which produces a wide range of equipment exported worldwide. The city is also a prominent center for the production of musical instruments, especially those used in brass bands. Additionally, Meerut has a thriving agricultural economy, with sugarcane being a major crop in the surrounding areas, supporting numerous sugar mills in the region.

Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), formerly Meerut University, is a prominent institution offering various undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The city also hosts many schools, engineering colleges, and medical institutions, contributing significantly to the educational development of the region.
In recent years, Meerut has seen considerable urban development and modernization. Shopping malls, multiplexes, and modern residential complexes have sprung up, transforming the city's landscape.
