Love this!!! As you know from my attendance at ORBC, I was hesitant about taking out of the back!!! Well, I am now reformed, and love it!!! I was taking too much off heart to get that lower crow and depth, when I should have gone for more out of the back. Balance, balance, balance..... a fabulous experiment!!! Thank you.

This vid was SO timely. I'm finally becoming able to scrape between the rails and the spine. I liked seeing how you scraped down the spine. I've always tried to leave significant spine for structure and then ended up taking the rails down (too much). I could feel exactly how the reed felt to play when too much was scraped out of the windows--like where I end up.
It was also really good to see your tip at the rough scrape stage.

If only we had a Jennet Ingle clone for German-scraped reeds.........:) THANK YOU! (My heart skips 10 beats every time I see you dig in with the knife. How many reeds have I destroyed by suddenly losing control and hacking out an entire chunk?!

      You’re welcome! And don’t be afraid - it’s just a reed!

I've wondered for years, how do you magnetize your knife and/or plaques? I've attempted a few times to magnetize plaques with a strong magnet and only ever got very weak results l. Never a reliable knife pickup as you seem to get. I use blue steel plaques and a Chiarugi knife.

Aha! I magnetize the knife, not the plaques, just by rubbing it on a strong magnet. I’ll rub it again if the magnetism gets weak, but it generally stays good for months!
