In 1990, I was in a Los Angeles doo-wop group called The Volcanos. Our falsetto singer, Richard Horlick and I were guests on Billy's radio show in Santa Monica. He was at the same time the epitome of New York-style "cool" - and incredibly humble. During a break we mentioned to Billy that we were looking for a fifth member - and gentleman that he is, Billy put the word out over the air. A few minutes later, a girl named Alexandra called in. Turned out she'd come to LA from Russia - and had the accent to prove it. She said she loved "Doo-Vop", so, the next weekend we gave her a tryout. She had the voice of an angel, and the Russian accent disappeared when she sang. She really rounded out The Volcanos' sound. Whenever I put on a video of one of our performances, I think about Billy Vera and smile. Geez, that was 30 years ago.
Billy... I can't Thank-you enough for the wonderful times in North Hollywood & Santa Monica that Pat Healy ,& I came to listen to you guys perform in the 1980's💌🫶🙋God Bless YOU and YOUR Group. Every Friday & Saturday Night looked forward in being a groupie with your fantastic, extremely talented group of musicians ❤ Much Love, health and Protection 🙏 God Bless You, Wendy, Retiree from Warner Bros.
happy birthday billy i grew up listening to the hit at this moment its one of my mother's all time favorite songs since i was a little kid i play the alto saxophone been playing for a little over a year i gotta learn how to play that solo in the song i want to surprise my mom because i like that solo so much this song ive never heard before but its a good song.
Damn, he’s the epitome of “not born to beauty”! Meaning, he may not be a handsome man, but damn he can rock!! That voice is as smooth as silk and as sweet as honey! So jealous how it just flows out, doesn’t have strain at all.
For one, it's a compliment. Calm down. It harkens back to the days of when Mtv took over the music scene. Music Producers became less concerned about talent and more concerned about looks. Billy is no "super model", but is oozing talent. And two, I am fucking sick to death of that ignorant damn arguement every time someone critiques an artist someone else adores. It's OK for someone to have an opinion that may be different than yours, not everyone has to agree with you...and no, they don't have to graduate from Julliard to have an opinion on music. People know what they do or don't like about music. People are actually allowed to critique music without having the ability to play.
My favorite speed for vibrato. Thank You Billy. Of course you know that the Warbles are a comin'. Can't be avoided it's just the nature of things. Cheers Very strange like that other guy under me I too was in an Acappella group, many in fact. Don't approve of the Doowop term. Just me?
Some people may think it's shallow but appearances are important especially on T.V. the suit is bad but the bass player should have been fired for that look, Red Pants short sleeve shirt and Bolo tie Pleeez
This is a Ballad. Take it as such. Only a Broken Heart could write a song like this.

is that a backhanded compliment? Let's see you....he's charming...and talented...and you are?

Powerful…what year was this?
Rosemary Clooney was from the Cincinnati clear channel station.
Clear channel is about gone, and sadly a lot of AM isn't music anymore.
BILLY
This was 1987 so Vera was only 43 here? How? Damn he easily looked 63 by today's standards
Love the song....the suit not so much (gives baggy a new meaning!_)
Maybe ray charles was his tailer

His Tailor was out of town this week.
Sorta like David Byrne's BIG SUIT - but the voice, the song, the musicians ---> as good as it gets.
C’mon now lol 😂
Would like to hear Seinfeld’s set from that show, after Billy warmed up the crowd for him. Anyone have a link?
WLW
Monotone!!
