Ride bikes. Give back. Pay it forward! - กีฬา
Alan, you are a wealth of information and entertainment! As well you inspire me to push the envelope. 61 years old , haven't ridden a bike regularly since 16. Going for my 1st 100 miler this weekend and planning my 1st overnight bikepacking trip for August. Thank you Sir
So awesome! Can't wait to hear how your century ride goes, Scott - best of luck!! Thanks for the kind words, and ride on!
Thanks for this vid. Finally left you a subscription (should have done so much earlier). Cheers- Holger [Saddles & Bars VLOG]
Thanks for watching and subscribing, Saddles & Bars - much appreciated!
Super cool tips
Thanks for watching :)
man, you got a style that penetrates. and I think you care about me. just gotta tell you this is great content and style. over and over.
Greg, thanks so much for the kind words! I do care about you! Ride on :)
Sweet!
Haha - thanks for watching, KC !
killer advice there
Thanks, ride on :)
OM*G your videos are so entertaining and informative. During a night of going down the You Tube rabbit hole of video watching yours are the first to truly entertain and actually make me LOL!!🤣🤣
right on, Hoser7 - thanks for the positive feedback :) - ride on!
For the tent, color coded tape works even better than numbers!
Thanks for your input, Sam 🙌
Excellent helpful info as always. TD is definitely on my bucketlist as well. Maybe someday we'll get a handle on Covid and bikepackers can enjoy the TD once again. Your videos are great keep em coming.
Shane, thanks for your kind words as always - ride on!
Hell yeah! I’d pay to come to a ride camp if put one on.
Bill, thanks for the kind words 🙌
Great content... The Tour Divide is quickly rising up the ranks of my bucket list 👍
Gordon, the TD should definitely be high on the bucket list :) thanks for watching and commenting :)
Good practical advice and oodles of enthusiasm as always.🍻🚲
Thank you, James 🙏
Great videos
thanks for the kind words :) ride on!
Great tips. I reckon use different colour tapes as well as the numbering to make it even easier.
anywhere roam - good note, I'm sure color coding can help a mushy, sleep deprived brain as well! cheers :)
Bing watching all your vids, this channel is a gold mine. Goofball antics and dad jokes works well with all your valuable knowledge.
Yotersmitt - thanks for the kind words and for watching the videos - Ride on!
Your videos are so packed with information, I sometimes replay segments 2 or 3 times to get it all. Not problem! Thanks for so much good advice!
Thanks for watching!!
Thanks mate! A couple of more episodes and I will be ready to go! Super helpful.
Thanks for watching, Bill 🙌
Most helpful and professional advice ever. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Good solid advice! I'm going to try the Sea To Summit pillow after 40 years of filling a stuff sack (arthritis in neck). If you're ever in a pinch for a ground sheet, I've used Lawn N Leaf style trash bags, cut open down sides and folded out they fit a one person tent well. Nice work, thanks!
Mike, thanks for the tip - I'll add it to my list of hacks for an upcoming video :) - Ride on! ps, that pillow is a game changer :)
I agree the pillow is a game changer for sleeping comfort.
those aren't pillows!!!
Emergent bike packer here but 50 plus year hiker rate this as an excellent tell-it video. The only thing I switch up from your setup is water filter because my ride country is like Great Divide Basin all the time. And sleep with cows. Surly Bridge Club for High Plains drifting.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Rob - Ride on!!
That electrical tape trick for your ground sheet..... game changer! For bikepacking/touring in general, not just the tour divide even. You’ve thought of everything🙌 (and of course, love the video!)
Serena, thanks so much for the kind words and taking the time to watch- ride on!
The bivi and tent idea makes sense for the reasons you stated, good content.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Peter 🙌 ride on!
Extremely informative and as always Entertaining. :)
Thanks Richard - now get out there and ride your bike!8
Another gem DT 🙌
Thanks a bunch, Drop IN :)
some great tips as always , learning a lot before I get my ass on some bike packing adventures
Get out there and ride myminx! thanks for watching and commenting :)
Top tips,Chapeau.
Thanks Stephen 🙏
I really enjoy the series. Well done.
thanks a bunch Sebastien!
Great video!!! You're a funny man)))
Thank you 🤘🏻
We spoke today at the SNRA. Thanks for jumping into our little tail gate party. These are great video's going to have to go back and make notes. Very entertaining as well.
Right on, Michael - nice to meet you all :) Thanks for watching and commenting!
Always good DT
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, Lee 🙏
Third time watching this. Still great and hilarious. Love your method of duct taping the groundsheet to the tebt. Never thought of that before.
Thanks, Hoser7 - glad you enjoyed :) It was fun making that one! Ride on :)
this guy is going to grow fast as people need info and most dont have the attention of a scientist like me so the fun fel and good pace is pukka
Alex, thank you for the kind words - have a great weekend 👍👍
Hey mate, would love a update on things you would do again or change riding the divide….maybe a lead up to video (training etc)…love the channel…just bought the panda bag…
Those are great ideas :) I'll put them on the list to make!!! Ride on :)
Can't wait for next episode . Thanks for the info . Any news about next year TD ???
Thanks for watching, Marcin - I hope next year’s TD will happen. We just have to cross fingers about Covid...
Dude I am tape numbering my rain fly . I am always doing poop circles trying to figure what way to snap in my clips great tip.
Haha poop circles!!! Ride on Hunter!
Another great video. If you have time, it would be great to create a playlist for this series.
Thanks, Robert - there is a playlist - link is in the description of this video 👍
Would you consider hammocks as an option for bike-packing? I've done RAGBRAI this way, and the C&O / GAP trails. BUT...you need trees, or poles or something that supports the hammock. I also travel with a fly, which helps with rain and offers some privacy.
Hi Barry, thanks for watching and commenting - on certain bikepacking trips, I consider a hammock as a great option - I own one and love it... when you know where you're gonna camp, etc - I don't think it's ideal for the TD for exactly the reasons you mention... a tent or tarp setup offers more peace of mind, on that route IMO - ride on!
Love this series. Did you did videos of the race?
No, I didn't take any video during the race... but I do plan on getting back out there and doing some filming :). Ride on!
Thank you for making this video. I've been thinking about an ultralight tent but I was concerned it might not stand up to this kind of prolonged use. Sounds like the Big Agnes has the seal of approval though. I would love to see a video about how you cook and what you eat on the route. I usually use a micro burner with MSR fuel canisters, but I don't know if there would be anywhere to get the fuel canisters on the route.
dirtnastyish, as long as you treat it well, the big Agnes tent is stellar... it is ultralight so you do have to be cautious... I'm still using the same one in the video, and I'm on a job where I sleep in it a couple times a week and have beaten it up pretty good... I'll be putting out a video on food/resupply on the TD soon... but for bikepack races I don't cook/carry a stove... on social bikepacking rides, I have a small MSR stove that I love... there definitely are places along the TD route to get fuel canisters - especially in the larger cities... ride on!
For the GDMBR, what are your thoughts on a hammock set up instead of a tent?
I love that shirt! Where did you get it? Great content, Alan!!
freedville, thanks for watching and the kind words :) My wife got it for me as a gift from www.cycologyclothing.com - ride on!
Put the tyvek in the washing machine and it will soften and quiet. Better yet, bring some poly cryo and save a few ounces
Thanks for sharing pgreenx- ride on!
@@DirtyTeethMTB I know nothing about bikes yet but a few things about hiking. Just bought a Fargo and looking forward bike packing. Your channel is very helpful. Thanks
@@pgreenx Congrats on the Fargo :) super fun bike!
Great advice! Is the sleep pad crinkly loud?
Glen, the big Agnes pad is crinkly - but not as loud as my thermarest...
Right on, how many days did it take you to finish the TDV for a mid pack rider.
Thanks for watching JR- took me 22 days 👍
Is there any trip where you’d forgo a sleeping bag? I’ve got a trip coming up, 2 nights, with low overnight temps in the 50-60 range. I am thinking of using a long sleeve sleep shirt, light insulated jacket, long bottoms with socks and bivy. It used to work for hiking but I was 15 years younger.
Hi Bill :) Yes, there are definitely shorter trips where I'd forego a sleeping bag and other comforts. Depends on your goals (ultralight/speed vs weight/comfort)... sometimes I'll just carry a bivy and my lightweight puffy and be good with that, if I don't plan on sleeping much... knowing I can throw on rain gear as well if I'm still cold... anyhoo, hope that helps! Let me know how it works out for ya :)
Did you say you primarily drink from the fork mounted bottles? Seems like they’d be hard to reach while on the go.
Yes I drank primarily from the fork mounted bottles- They are easy for me to reach - thanks for watching and commenting! 🙏
@@DirtyTeethMTB Mind Blown! I decided to mount a cage on my Warbird's fork for my easy hour ride this morning. It was so incredibly easy to access. I dare say easier than a traditional frame mount. Wow!
Right? It’s a little tougher to access when you have a handlebar bag blocking your view, but you get used to it... ride on! 💪
could you out links to the gear items?
Cocohelado, there should be a link in the description that says “all the gear I use” - that should take you to a full list of stuff- thanks for watching and commenting 👍👍
