I wish Genesis had given the Ray Wilson line-up more time to catch-on with fans. There was potential there to start a whole new chapter for the band. It's interesting that Ray & Hackett have become musical allies in recent years. When Genesis put out their official documentary/band history "Sum of the Parts" in 2014, Ray was completely erased from the Genesis story, not even a mention of his name, the album/music videos that they'd done together, not even an acknowledgement that there was a short-lived lineup that didn't work out between "We Can't Dance" and the reunion tour with Phil.

I just recorded a cover of "Uncertain Weather" two days ago and uploaded to my channel. Ray's best vocals on the forgotten Genesis album Calling All Stations. A piece of art and challenging vocals that's probably why Genesis with Ray never performed it live ever.

@@ThelSuperlKingThat's correct. Ray also never did it imo. It's not to understand.

Idk how Sum of the Parts came to be so bad, everyone in the band objected one way or the other in later individual interviews and they forgot about it, just a recent re-print that nobody bought. I even read that they cut so much from the final draft the band saw, Steve also got cut short, for unknown reasons. Could be problems with the manager?
It is known that Steve left too suddenly, as a manager i would be pissed too, but Ray is the other way around, were apparently the manager wasn't supportive enough, and Ray is rightfully dissapointed by that, yet in a post CAS interview with the manager, he says he doesn't understand Ray's anger, so idk, there must be some missunderstanding, i wish they would just turn it on again.

My understanding is that Tony Banks was happy to do another album but I think Mike Rutherford was concerned that the poor reception of Calling All Stations in North America would risk harming their legacy and also could risk tours being uneconomic (or something similar). I am pleased that Ray still gets credit via Steve.

I've seen the "Calling All Station tour" back then in 1997. Ray Wilson was really good on the Peter Gabriel era songs. But you could feel that something was missing for the Collins songs. I think that they (Tony, Mike) made the wrong choice in 1996. They should have brought Simon Collins in the lineup (because he's an excellent singer and can easily sing on both Gabriel and Collins songs). But i suppose that Tony voted "nah" to that option back then. Plus imagine today, you could have 2 Phil Collins's sons in Genesis !!!!
