Maybe Montrell is not 100% from that knee scope. But I definitely want to see more Jaden a Baugh and Jacoby Jackson. Those dudes have the best vision out of all the RBs. Jackson slithers like a snake and Baugh will lower the shoulders like a Ram
Napier should have been let go after 5 straight losses to finish last season. Never saw UF wait so long to fire a failing coach. As a 41 year booster and season ticket holder, I will not donate or renew my tickets until Napier is gone and I see an all out effort to hire a grade a coach.
So 3 years is all a coach gets? I think there should be a rule where coaches get a mandatory 5 year contract, unless they are let go for disciplinary reasons.
@@Gatorfan38when that coach has consistently gotten worse season after season then yea 3 is all he gets and he’s got a losing record overall as UF’s head coach.
Help me understand why if a coach fails to meet his quota for wins and gets fired, why we continue to pay him. I get the contract but he signed the contract with an agreement to win football games, which he has not done. So why do we pay someone to fail at a job. It actually gives an incentive to suck and then get paid to do nothing
You’re silly. No coach will take a job that is “at-will” and has zero security. You must be a Nazi (Republican) to have such a stupid idea. If a coach doesn’t win enough games, it was a mistake by the employer to hire him. If the coach isn’t trying to win, that would be just cause. But there’s no evidence that Napier is not trying to win. He’s just not what you thought you were getting when you hired him. Why give a coach a long contract when you hire him if you’re not confident you made the right hire? I’m sure there are coaches that would sign for a lower term guaranteed contract. Florida wanted Napier so badly they, basically, gave him EVERYTHING he asked for. Now, after doing so, you think it’s okay to not live up to your obligations? I bet you are a supporter of the Fuhrer, Donald Trump, aren’t you? He has the same outlook . He refuses to pay his bills and is a well known deadbeat that no American financial institution will do business with because he doesn’t pay his bills. Even after getting elected President, he tried to get a loan and was turned down. He whined (he whines about everything) that he was going to be President…the bank said that didn’t change the fact that he was still Donald Trump, the deadbeat who doesn’t pay his bills.
That’s what I have been saying. They have to hit big with a name coach that can come in and produce quickly. Chances are our future coach will be coaching the playoff. He most likely will not want to leave his team during that time. We are stuck with Nape.
My thing about the edge rushers is that they are more productive as edge rushers elsewhere because they are playing traditional edge. What is the percentage of snaps at new schools that they drop into coverage compared to when they were at UF. Also probably on the field way more snaps than they did at UF.
Fire Scott Stricklin; Fire Jeremy Foley. Again (?); Fire Billy Napier... Go Toledo! I think your suggestion regarding the run game was brilliant. I imagine it is done on other teams at other times, so why not here? I think a big part of it is the sense that they believe they know best - the best/worst example of this is the fact that, no matter who is running the ball, no matter who they're playing or what's happening in the game, they're running the same plays in the same situations. Over and over and over and... Which is the best guess as to why this coaching staff is NOT likely to be going to the backs and line and talking to them about what they feel confident or comfortable running together (line and back). I specifically didn't say "didn't ask them what they wanted" or "thought" because I get the sense that for this coaching staff, that would somehow show weakness to allow the players to make that kind of decision, or even suggestion. Which is just one other reason this staff sucks. And by the way, someone should tell them that that kind of coaching is a sign of insecurity - a coach who was secure in his ability and decisions would not be threatened to integrate the players into those kinds of decisions. Regarding Ron Roberts, I don't know that its that he lost his touch, I think, given what we've seen in the previous two years, that the head coach has veto power over everything, and is not only trying to run the offense to the point of calling plays in spite of that being a glaring failure, but also trying to run the defense. So I wonder if Ron Roberts is not either being ignored or overridden. I think that may have been the reason why Austin Armstrong performed so much worse last year than in previous positions - because he wasn't allowed to run the defense how he wanted. I think that this year is just a continuation of that horrendous dictatorship. And by the way, may also be the reason the edge play is not what it needs to be - that they continue to drop them into coverage way too much, maybe because it worked once at Louisiana or something but it ain't working here. And the rotations that don't make sense, particularly playing DJ Douglas 60 snaps and your best players 30?? And Douglas has 7 missed tackles, three times worse than anyone else, and he's out there longer - twice as long - as much better players. Maybe the head coach who brought him in on that transfer portal wants to prove that it was a good decision. Somehow. I agree with everyone who says that Billy Napier is not a bad person, by any means. I don't think he's doing the things I believe he's doing for bad reasons. I think he believes that the head coach has to be the Father Figure for the team, and has to have ultimate decision-making in all areas of the game. He has to know more than everyone else, better than everyone else, and makes final decisions in every aspect of the game. Has to have the C-word (Control) over everything. That may work in other leagues, but he does not have the knowlege or ability to coach - not as Head Coach - in the SEC. One final word (finally!), I saw a journalist on another show talking about, when you fire the head coach, you're also firing all the assistants, everyone else he brought in - he said "hundreds," I don't know how many were brought in with Napier, but I do remember hearing that he was bringing in a much larger staff. So that is true, and it is yet another reason why firing a head coach should not be taken lightly. But when it is painfully clear that he is not only incapable of doing his job but also incapable of being at all objective in judging how well he is doing, e.g., play calling, and changing things that are just not working, game after game, season after season, it is time to change leadership.
Trust me when I say "it WILL get better". As a fan of Miami I can tell you that we went through the same thing over and over. I remember 55-0 loss to Clemson years ago and coach being fired right after that. Didn't change anything. Last year we (Miami) were completely betrayed by our coach in the Ga Tech game. I think it was last year or the year before Memphis State mollywhopp us at home! Losing 45-3 at home in prime time to FSU . Could prob give you 20 examples of how bad it was. Look at FSU right now! They are the definition of a mess . I'm not saying Napier should be retained at all. It looks to me like he knows the game but is lacking in the enthusiasm department. That being said it appears they will give him a chance to save his job ,they can still pull it together and win some games. Put a beating on FSU and win 6 games. Maybe pulling off an upset ..Georgia? You have a potential future top 5 qb in Lagway . At the end of the day, it's painfully obvious that Napier isn't a good fit for UF , but he'll probably have an opportunity this season. I truly believe they wait until the offseason to make any coaching changes. They are in far better shape than the Seminoles.
Nice start tho I think it’s “I may not be able to explain…but I can try.” I think they may be trying to negotiate his separation. And maybe they think it’s a good buffer as they search for the next guy…
A very sober and realistic post. Jeremy Foley should have NEVER been hired in the first place. He has some skeletons in his closet that, if known, would shock you that he was hired at UF. Maybe he has something on other important people at UF that keeps them In line. I have no doubt that Foley is still in charge enough that he has veto power. Everything you said about Florida’s decision makers is true. They’re awful people! That said, if UF leaves Starkville with a loss, the paradigm may shift . How can you justify losing to a team that was just dominated by Toledo?
it's a logistics thing. Hard to get a quality interim in place right before road game. The HC has a better feel of travel logistics than an interim would. Once the miss st game is over tho, he needs to be fired.
I think you should at least keep him around until the end of this season and maybe extended contract other three years and let him get the program together. Signed a Vols fan

Are you kidding me? No Benefit? We are 3 games into the 2024 season and the team has quit! get rid of the guy asap, get an interim that the players respect that will be the complete opposite of Billy so we can actually win a few games this year and get an early start on rebranding this program.

Just because the fans want to win it all, doesn't mean the school cares. Also, with the 12 team playoff, you don't have to go to a Florida type school that's all in which is why you can forget getting Lane. In other words, it's the school itself. Napier is just the symptom of a bigger problem.
I don't agree with your take on why they don't want to fire Billy because of Strickland. It's more likely a combo of 2 things. One is the longer into the season the less they have to pay for Napier's buyout. Two is the optics. Firing a coach after 2 games in his third year doesn't look inviting for getting a decent head coach down the line. They will stick to Bill until they have 7 loses which creates a losing season and then they will can him. It also doesn't hurt things to keep Napier. The Gators issues won't be fixed this year no matter who the interim coach is. Might as well let Billy keep on demonstrating to future coaches just how much leeway we will give them.
Fire Scott Stricklin? We arentt winning football games, so I get it, but I’m not sure I agree. He took over a programs that was terribly deficient in facilities, staff, operating budget and recruiting budget. He has fixed all those problems that Foley refused to address.
