Tahunanui to Richmond Nelson New Zealand 2024

Hi and welcome to todays cycling adventure from Tahunanui Beach in the sunny city of Nelson heading south to the town of Richmond via the cycling / walking trai that follows part of the former Nelson Railway formation.
This trail is a easy flat graded trail that is mostly on a sealed patch off the road some sections involve street riding. The trail from Tahuna Beach to Richmond is roughly 13kms and is a stunning ride the trail can be busy at times with other cyclists and walkers.
The city of Nelson is located near the top of New Zealand's South Island in the sunny and warm Tasman District the city is a vibrant place with spectacular beaches cycling and walking trails on its doorstep.
Nelson is the oldest city in the South Island and is New Zealand's second oldest city. Nelson was established in 1841 founded by Arthur Wakefield.
Nelson once had a railway running from the port of Nelson south to Kawatiri in the Tasman District, the railway line operated for 79 years this section of railway line was never connected to the New Zealand national railway network however there were plans and construction had started to connect the railway line further south from the terminus at Kawatiri to Inangahua Junction in the lower Buller gorge to connect with the Seddonvile to Stillwater railway line. unfortunately the founding had run out and the Nelson railway line was closed in 1955.
