I bought a Crosstourer, in part because of vlogs such as this. Very pleased with it. Lovely bike. Honda at the top of its game. Nice watch. Thank you BBA
Really appreciate these videos and the commentary! I put my deposit on the VFR1200X today in Temecula, CA. Could have this bad boy as early as May. Considered the Africa Twin but at my age (61) decided the extra torque and HP of the VFR will allow me to motor through and past traffic on the American Southwest interstates with still plenty enough dirt road capability for exploring. Can't wait for my first trip to Utah, Colorado, Arizona. My first bike was a Honda SL90 then Suzuki TS250, Honda CB750, Honda Sabre 700, Honda ST1100 and lastly a one-owner 1974 Norton Commando 850. This will more than likely be my forever bike. Baja California definitely on the horizon as well. Thanks mate for the vids. Keep the rubber side down! ;-)
Thanks Nick, I appreciate the comments. You're not much older than me and I'm sure you find the Big V4 a beautiful bike to spend lots of time on. Let me know what you think after you get it. Congratulations
BBA...the shop got the DC version in first. I sat on it and instinctively reached for the clutch! Then no shifter. I knew I wanted the manual. I haven't ridden in over five years. After a few times around the block I felt totally at ease, feathering the clutch was a breeze. it has good feel to it. I can't wait to get this bike out to Utah red Rock country, Cali coast......;-)
That explains it. I've been riding for over 40 years but a recent toss off has left my clutch had a tad weak. The DCT may be an option for me. I tried the BMW quick shifter but that doesn't do it for me. Take care and enjoy!
I didn't care for the looks (didn't hate it either) but liking it in red with the crash bars. They only sell it in black here in the states.. maybe I'll get one and paint some plastic bits red.
Well at least he's got me on a VFR eventually, I deffo never thought he would, but I love the latest two tone colour, matches Martin's new Goldwing.... and we are the B team :)
Im test riding one of these with the vision of trading my gs in or selling it... they look so good. never had a honda let me down! 'Zaust sounds gorgeous mate!
Thanks mate, it doesn't have all the Farkles of the GS, but I'm not a fan of that's stuff anyway. I hope you enjoy the feel of that V4. Let me know how you get on?
+Big Bike Adventures will do buddy, I've owned 2 vfrs in the past a 400 nc30 and it's bigger brother the 750, and love Honda v4's... so heres hoping it can tick the box in the dual purpose category!
Harleys are intentionally rough, that's the character of the brand. Everyone buys it for the "cool" shakey motor, then they ride a Japanese bike and realize their mistake.
I have really enjoyed your excellent videos on the Crosstourer, whilst looking out for one for myself. Finally I've secured a 2016 version of the DCT model. She's a big old girl, isn't she??!! So looking forward to collecting her shortly. Thanks again.
+Big Bike Adventures Serious - Watched this video twice now - Im going to have to fly to christchurch or auckland to ride one - I was sold on the Caponord but this, this pulls my heart strings!
+Mark Norman (JustSaiyan) if you haven't already, go check out my "Owners review" video. The Guzzi is a great bike but I think you'll be impressed with the big V4.
I have a VFR 1200 XD DCT and I noticed a transmission noise at low RPM. Lift the motorcycle on the center stand and place it in D. As the rear wheel starts turning you will hear knocking sounds coming from the transmission. A clear audio file here soundcloud.com/eduard-ba/vfr-1200-xd-dct-transmission-noise-at-low-rpm
Just watched this older video, quite amusing , the bloke leading the test ride takes some "interesting" lines through corners. I am still chuckling at a couple of questions to your pillion - "How's it feel for you?" and "leg position?''
That’s not Honda policy to make people turn off camera .the individuals must have done something wrong before and had a problem.. I found that bike in the states for $10K I think that’s about $15 K Australia. Bad roads big country few people . Sounds like heaven . Seems to b nimble even with 19 inch tire up front .
+Dave Hammond the 2016 you are getting has fly by wire throttle and I think cruise control is an option. Not that it's a problem, there are plenty of cheap throttle locks available.
Mate - That has to be one of the best reviews I have seen....Looking for just such a bike but have been thinking GS or Super Ten - will definitely have to put this one on the list. How tall are you? just wondering about leg room - I'm 6ft and Currently ride an ST1300. Cheers. Do you still have the Honda - if not did you have a good experience with it?
Oz Bloke hey mate, thanks for the comments. Yep still got my Crossy, still love it. Since I’ve got the Africa Twin, the Crossy has been relegated to road trips. That V4 is one of Honda’s best and puts a smile on my dial every time I take it out.
Hi, I bought me selfone too. Ive been thru your videos and you were pretty much spot-on, in your opinion about the bike. I love it. Hope to go down to south of France on it in a weeks time. Just on issue when I swith the ignition on there is screeching and squealing sound from the radiator it seems to me. Switch it off its gone. Is this something I should be concerned about? Cheers! .
Excellent video. Have to ask though: Why did you decide on the non-DCT? Have you been able to try the Anakee 3's yet? I've had good luck with that rubber, but the results are very bike specific.
Hi Walter, its an ex demo bike so was only available in the Manual. I am keen on the DCT. Maybe next time. If you check some of my other videos you'll see I've been playing with different tyre combinations and taking the big girl further off road. I'll probably try the Ankee 3 next as the knobbies are not great on the road.
OK the bottom line .... Which one do you prefer? The Africa twin or the crosstourer? I realise that they are completely different bikes but I am thinking the V4 engine and the shaft drive are going to swing it for me.
James Downie The Bottom line? It’s a 70/30 decision based on your application. If you are doing 70% road and want 2up or fully loaded all roads, all day riding capability the big Crossy is the go to bike. If it’s 70% dirt and you want a big rig to carry you long distance across any terrain the AT is the go to machine. I have been planning a side by side video for some time. Good luck. 🤙
Thanks mate. They are a great bike, I still have mine. Theres plenty of videos on this channel of me taking the big girl places she's not supposed to be. th-cam.com/video/EHvH-WUnsCM/w-d-xo.html
Tony Edwards Depends mate. I found the Anakee lll are the best all rounders. 70/30 tar /dirt but they get very noisy after a couple of 1000ks. I’m currently running the Tourance Next, more of a 80/20 tyre still very quite. If you are going off road. Try the Kenda Big Block
Hi and good day, would You please be so kind, to explain me , HOW You (!) fix that sheepskin on the seat of the Crossi ? I lost mine (it was a white one) during my trip to the Moto GP at ASSEN end of June 2017 ( in the NL) . I have no idea - how I can get it really tight . Please help me ... I LOVE sheep , sheepdogs , shepherding and sheepskin .... *** ☺ Best greetings from Germany ! Dietmar
Big Mike, great video. I'm interested in the bike, always loved the V4 but I've heard the engine is detuned and it's a bit boring which is a shame. How is it in the upper RPM band? Why not the Tiger Explorer? You are British..
Australian my friend. Tigers break and fall over in Australia. The engine is detuned from the 170hp road bike, to 130hp but have more nM's. Better tractability offroad. Power delivery is very linear and once over 5000pm becomes very exciting.
Hahaha, Bombarded with questions. Yes to Handwarmers, not sure if the latest models have Cruise control, but it has "Fly by wire" throttle so someone will make one. Kaoko throttle lock is your other friend. My pillion loves it. check some of my other videos. th-cam.com/video/_Jbh2IJ4blM/w-d-xo.html I just use normal saddle bags without frames, but have recenlty made a bar that goes from the rear footpeg to the number plate mount. Works a treat.
+SmokinZen oh and wind protection is better with the touring screen, but I use the smaller one in summer for better air flow. The larger one offers great protection. They say don't go over 130kph with the big screen on, but it's good for over 200kph. Hahahah
+Big Bike Adventures I always felt like the gas tank on the vfr1200x was kind of small (5.68 gallons compared to the 6.6 gallons for the Super Tenere) for serious touring, but if you're getting 250 miles to a tank, that's pretty respectable.
+jb260779 Hey there, uummmm YES. In fact the traction control is the only thing that keeps the front wheel on the ground in the first couple of gears. :-)
Big Bike Adventures I am really thinking about getting one of these, but the u/s model i think is only 135 hp i believe? to give you some idea of my bike tastes, in the last 18 months. i have had a R1200GS BMW, TRIUMPH EXPLORER 1200 and now a new ducati multistrada, which has let me down 4 times in 1700 miles How does the x tourer live up to these other bikes??
I bought a Crosstourer, in part because of vlogs such as this. Very pleased with it. Lovely bike. Honda at the top of its game. Nice watch. Thank you BBA

Nice work dude, always enjoy your vids, theres a straight talking way about you, i like that......say it as it is! C

Time for another one.

brilliant bike
I too have bought the crosstourer just love it. what mount for the phone are you using and where could i find something like it.
Hi there, the phone mount is the Ram X Grip but I have since changed to the Quad Lock.
If I can find one used I think I’m gonna sell the street glide and get one
