  • NEW DAY: LIVING IN THE LIGHT OF THE RESURRECTION
    -----
    The resurrection of Jesus was an event that surprised the earliest followers of Jesus and forced them to rethink everything they thought they knew about Jesus, themselves, and the world. They believed that the risen Jesus inaugurated God’s new creation, making it possible to become new and different kinds of humans. In this series we’ll explore how the New Testament unpacks the significance of the resurrection for every aspect of our lives.

    I thank God for His word and the Holy Spirit for leading me to this sermon. It is so relevant for what I am experiencing in this season of my life and even this very night. I decided to listen to a sermon before bed because I was reminded of just how alone I am - and really we all are and can be - in this life (in terms of not having loved ones that care). I am also facing being unemployed for more than 6 months and all the effects that has had on my identity, independence and self esteem. However, I am reminded in this sermon that my hope as a believer is in Jesus. Nothing can shake that or take it away. People will fail us throughout our lives or pass away eventually so we can't hope in them. We also cannot hope in our job or status. Jesus is our constant hope and companion in this life and eternity to come.

      Kaliy B I’m so sorry that you are having difficulties with employment and such. I admire your strength in your sadness though and that is exactly what Dr. Mackie is talking about here! May Almighty YaHWeH Bless you according to His perfect Will and I will see you in eternity! Keep your hope in Jesus the Christ Kaily!

    Dr. Mackie mentioned some facts about Peter including that he and
    John ran to the tomb (Peter was beaten to the tomb by the much younger John) but Peter being Peter goes right in when he gets to the empty tomb.
    Here is more on what Peter saw and what it means in light of Jewish culture in the first Century A.D.
    An example of why we must know Ancient Hebrew culture is this from John 20:6-7: we are told that Jesus’ head linen was in the tomb, folded apart from the rest. This was immediately apparent to all Hebrews because it has to do with masters and servants.
    The servant would make the table for a meal exactly the way the master wanted. The servant would wait out of sight until the master was finished eating and the master would take the napkin and wipe their hands, face, and beard then wad up the napkin and throw it on the table. The servant then knew it was time to clean up.
    But if the master neatly folded the napkin and laid it down it would mean servant don’t clean yet - I’m coming back.
    Jesus HIMSELF told us HE’s coming back! HE said it, HE meant it and I believe it with all my heart, mind, body and soul!
    If we don’t know Ancient Hebrew culture we miss that amazing story!

    This was a most powerful message, Pastor Mackie. My youth is behind me; I'm on the top of the slide and looking down. And I am grateful for the hope in the promises of Jesus that I hold on to. With all I have lived through, incredible joy and incredible sorry, I continue on and share the comfort that His Joy gives me. Thank you for sharing. You are a master with words and visions.

    I felt so very blessed and grateful to listen to this wonderful life giving sermon - it is May 22, 2020. I live in Tasmania Australia. During the Covid 19 period which is not yet over my church has been online. However, I have been very blessed to learn so much more about Jesus and our faith through teachings of The Bible Project and Dr Tim Mackie. I especially love how Dr Tim shows how Yeshua and His early fellowers opened up places of life in the true sense. Now we are to live life so as to do the same. Praises to our Lord and God.

    That's an important metaphor about refining metal. I think it is more accurate of gold and silver. But as someone who is keenly interested in process of sword making I can tell you that swords are not poured into a mold. The minerals are put into the fire and cooked at extream temperatures for many hours, and sometimes for days. And this process produces a lump of metal called a bloom. Then pieces of the bloom are put into the fire again and drawn out with a hammer on an anvil into a rough sword-like shape. From there it is refined with grinders, and/or files, and often with fine stones to get a fine shape, polish, and sharp edge.

    More than 150 members of my family tree died in concentration camps during WW2. 😢 I almost crashed and burned after Trump's re-election was stolen from him in 2020. It took me until recently and a whole lot of praying to build up new hope.

    Just wanted to pin point "elimination" and "uniqueness" are not specific to Jews. G_d's grace has provisioned many good things to Christians in many ways when compared to atrocities. I have a limited viewpoint.

    Hope, to me, is a trap. You hope and are inevitably disappointed. Or, maybe that's just what my family of origin hammered into me as mommie crushed me. I can say I believe in Jesus, but hope? Nope.

    • @KellyBezz
      @KellyBezz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      lininomartino I’m sorry you’ve had bad experiences but actually listen to what Dr. Mackie explores Peter saying: don’t put your hope in things of this world like people and material goods because you will indeed be disappointed when they die. But instead put your Hope in what the empty tomb and the risen Jesus tells us that there is New life in Jesus and it cannot be taken away by anything, anyone or any life circumstances.
      Let sad instances in your life like loss and suffering change you so you learn to put your hope in Jesus and what He represented by being raised from the dead! Let us act according to Jesus’ principles and use suffering, sacrificial love in all our interactions with each other. Let’s always and only do everything for the well being of others! Dr. Mackie said, “He became what we are so we can become what He is.”
      Also it’s time to accept responsibility for what you believe and how you act instead of blaming it on your mother and what she may have done. Many people have horrible childhood experiences but know that there’s much more to life such as what the empty tomb and the risen Jesus means for us.
      May YaHWeH (Hebrew Name for God, Creator of all) Bless you and may you allow Him and His gift of His Spirit change you into the best you ever with Hope in the living Jesus.

      Trusting in Jesus by definition is to hope. To hope for life from death, freedom from sin and evil in this world.
      If you have no hope do you simply live in despair, cynicism, or utter mistrust in all things? I'm curious how one lives without any hope at all without falling apart?

    • @KellyBezz
      @KellyBezz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Daim Untamed exactly! So many times I am grateful for hope in God and Jesus and grateful for the Spirit working in my life and don’t know how people without that can get on and function in life very well. I will say I’ll bet if more people had hope in Jesus we would have less drug and alcohol abuse and addiction!
