You know, you really don't have to do this in the server setting, you could use a certain map, make any changes needed for a challenge and then send that map to your challengers, everyone would start with the same land area and equipment from there bobs your uncle, what ever is in the shop is fair game in the challenge. I could even be an own the map challenge so it would end after everyone finished the last map purchase. Just a thought
That with worker is bug with servers. Every time when you disco nect from server with worker going, after reconecting it let you stop him, but you cant start him again. Simple reconect always fix that. With friends we have to be sure that all workers are off before disconnecting
