The 4003s/8 is similar to the 4008 but there is some differences: The tailpiece is cut a little different. The s/8 headstock is slightly larger. The 4008 has neck binding and stereo wiring. The root and octave strings are reversed on the s/8 to be in line with other Rickenbacker instruments.. The truss rods are also different between basses..
@@TheEmac70 Indeed, so your bass is a 4003S/8? People refer to Squire's white potato headstock prototype as the 4008, but RIC called it a 4001/8, if I recall correctly. Also, Squire's had the octave string first, whereas Entwistle's 4001/8 had the root string first.
It's just a tune I made up to demonstrate the range of the basses (it's called "The other one like it.") It can be played on a four string no worries..
If you are looking for an affordable eight string bass look up the "Polymack Whistlebird Eight" the sound of which is inspired by both the Jack Spira and Rickenbacker basses shown here..
It is actually almost the opposite in truth. Tha Spira has lots of frequencies, all fighting for space and the Rickenbacker has a gap in the lower mids that allows room for the lows and highs to come through cleanly. In practice the Spira sort of trashes a mix and the Rickenbacker complements instead.
They both sound great.
Sick riff. Is that improvisated or of what piece it is?
It was a tune made to demonstrate the whole range of the instruments.
From memory it was called "the other one like it".
Thanks for the comment!
Lovely bass, that Ric - isn't it a 4003S/8, however?

Great vid - many thanks. Killer sound - the Rick's fabulous. Better a couple of 4 stringers !
4008 for sure! now I wish I owned my house so I could mortgage and afford one =)
is there any chance of normal people affording one?
Did you bought one?
What song is he playing? Would I be able to play it on a normal 4-string?

Rickenbacker sounds so much fuller

It's always worth remembering that there is little difference in the spelling between important and impotent....
