I'd definitely recommend both! I have these two GH5 guitars now with linear strums as well as an XP and Kramer and they are great. It may seem like they'd be floppy but there is no over strumming and they work quite well. Especially considering that the standard ALPS clones are usually sold out or pricey in comparison. That and id always recommend low profile key switches for frets, it's the only way I prefer to play and a lot of people offer 3D printed buttons to fit the switches. I'd also say shamless plug in that I do stock frets machined out to fit the switches too.
Originally, all guitar hero frets were tactile -- rubber domes are tactile switches (of course, they have to bottom out to actuate which is the main disadvantage). It's always surprised me a little that people go for linears over tactiles for the frets. Tactile switches are super common in other rhythm games too, many bemani arcade games use tactile arcade switches, like IIDX, SDVX, Pop'n Music.
ive had an ordeal with strim switches lately. i mentioned on a different video of yours that i thought my xplorer (that the seller paid 5 bucks for) had quad overstrum so i bought switches but it turned out that it was a bug with the controller autodetect of guitar hero world tour. if autodetect is left on in the controller binding menu some controllers mess up and have a weird thing where they strum over 2-4 options on the main menu so i couldnt even scroll to quickplay and see if it was the controller itself or the game being funky. after i found that out i learned my xplorer was perfectly fine and i was left with 2 spare switches. my tac V had super squeaky switches and it just so happened that they matched the 2 prong xplorer switches so i swapped them out and my V is now even more of a dream. i also tried fixing my rb1 strat with some limit switches since i was at it. i bought the kind that had the bar and the roller since they were the cheapest. i chopped the roller off and just had the bar on the switch still attached and i mounted them up in the strum but when i strummed one of the bars of the switches would get caught underneath or stuck on top of the strum bars ledges. i couldnt find any solution no matter what combo i tried of height or orientation and the bars started to get some side to side wiggle so i just ended up snapping the bars off both and using them like they were the kind that is just the button with no bar. it works but i stole the whammy out of it to fix my v since the v came in the mail with its whammy snapped off at the seam where one of the o-rings was. i could send you pics of all my wacky mods if you care. do you happen to have any spare longer style whammys lying around? id only need the bar and the e clip to get my rb1 going again.
Yeah send em either on discord or email that's in description. Also I do happen to have a lot of spare parts and have numerous whammy bars from different guitars
Yesterday I modded mine with red switches too, maybe I'll try clicky switches this weeknd by the force of response, it press so much when I Whammy 😂 Thank you for your content, it is confusing starting to solder but funny in somehow, info is power
when you drill into the board to add the springs, (something i was thinking of doing myself) and i was unsure how to go about it. going thru the board with the trace circuitry didn't affect the function? its a genius mod doing spring loaded but I'm worried about the board thing. thank you for this video. it was nice
The traces are so small you can miss them easily enough but even when I have drilled through a trace I just solder directly to the pins on the switches
hello, I have the same guitar, her problem is the following, when I turn it on, it connects to the ps3 normally, but soon after it turns off, it does not stay connected, what could it be?
More than likely the switches have given out. Unless debris is stuck inside that's always the case. The spring can go out too but that's rare and the switches would still do their thing.
i get these. they are the closest thing to the originals, as they are not made anymore and put them in all my customer builds. The ones in this video are slightly different but basically any box switches with parallel solder pins will work. so yeah alps and others will work just check those pins arent offset. the link i gave is usually sold out by the time they restock but it at least gives a good idea of what you're looking for. they are white ALPS clone box switches
Thanks man. I tore mine apart today and I have what looks like a surface mount capacitor across both switches. Could be a resistor but it’s the same color as a ceramic capacitor. It’s an original 2007 PS3 GH3 Les Paul. Any idea what they are cus they went flying across the room and I can’t find them now?
If you replace the strum switches on a wii guitar there is a possibility the board gets fried and will be needing to be replaced by an arduino. However in most cases you shouldn't have to
Hey are the Xbox gh3 guitars good? Was gonna buy a heavily modded one from a welllnown modder and haven’t had a guitar in a decade and controller hurts my hands so much!
Depending on what switches you get yeah you'll have to modify the board by drilling into it. Alternatively if you find the right switch that matches the pins then you shouldn't have to.
when it's a garage and it gets worked in almost every day of the year 🤣 I work on cars and machines constantly so the carpet, which is old as shit, gets dirty.
Thanks for this. I absolutely botched my first attempt at replacing these switches so good to know there's a way I can save it.
This makes me want to try linear switches on a strum bar, maybe even tactile switches on the frets (possibly choc browns)

soldering in new switches as i watch this video

Camera angle is perfect as is, no need to change imo :)
by any chance do you have any videos on doing a left handed guitar where the whammy placement is on the opposite side?
I have some in limbo atm but I will be doing a video soon on the subject. Both for guitars without faceplates and with as those are quite different
@@ninjapwnsatlyfe ok I will keep an eye out
Hi, Im have the same guitar, how do u connect wireless?

I’m using box navy’s with a gh5 wii guitar do those fit
Sir, how can I buy your guitars and GH stuff to Poland, pleaseeee! I see so much experience from a pro :D greetings!
As long as you are willing to pay for shipping ill ship pretty much anywhere
My guitar hero 5 controller won’t return to center when strumming almost is too “weak” or something is this a switch issue or something else ?

Where can I find replacement switches? Everything I’ve found is used. Will alps switches fit without modifications?

Do I need a ardunio or something after I replace the switches I saw someone say that I have a wii les Paul

Yeah wii seems to be superior though with retrocultmods v3 adapter
do i ahve to drill into the pcb

U wanna make me a guitar as well?
finally seeing the comment lol
How can you talk about how nasty some people keep their guitars when your floor looks like that
