Hi. Do you have a follow up video on adding ROMs or unlocking the ROMs already on the PCB? The guy who was doing this has stopped doing it now so I'm looking for a way to do it to my gen 1 PCBs. Thanks.
Did you do a part 2? This was really informative but you left a cliff hanger here. I searched for a follow up from you but couldn’t find it. If you did one please post a link. If it’s on your Patreon let me know. I’ll happily sign up and subscribe if it’s on there. Thanks
honestly I don't remember. That said if it's not on youtube it's not on patreon. I no longer do patreon videos as it wasn't worth the hassle to maintain the two different things.
Great video. Is it possible to take the Asteroids 1up board and output the video to a HD15 pin VGA CRT (old pc monitor). I tried converting the LCD output but could never figure this out. And yes, I could just use a Pi but the point was to try and do it. Any help would be awesome.
thanks. I have not looked into the signaling that uses, but I'm pretty sure you can buy adapters for this to a VGA monitor as I know I've seen people selling them. I think you have to match the specific board you have though to ensure the adapter works.
Hey i know this is a long shot but i have the gen 1 Asteroids Deluxe. Arcade1up messed up on the game Asteroids Deluxe. Somehow it only has 2 lives and it's supposed to have 3. Every other game is fine. Is it possible to flash my PCB board with the correct Asteroids Deluxe ROM? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated
More than likely that’s a config setting you can alter (assuming it’s mame) That said I don’t remember if those setting would be read only or read/write flash I mean you could still change them but if it’s in a read write area it would be simple to do with a key boatd attached if not it could be significantly more work. Unfortunately I don’t remember much about how the were setup as I’m old and forgetful
Hi. I know this video is old but I had an issue and hoping you can help. I've connected through UART with the same adapter and am able to see the events displayed but I never get a login prompt like you did at 10:28 Mine just stays at the line "new thread_serial_mouse:" Do I have to hit an additional button or command sequence to get the login? I also do not get any feedback when typing. Thanks.
sorry try swapping the pin that the TX from your USB (or RX on the PCB side) side goes to, you miight have GND and (RX swapped) or just RX swapped with the "empty" (+5)
@@bebrzezicki It's weird, I can remote into my Street Fighter using the same method but my Final Fight pcb doesn't give me a login prompt. Might be specific to that board, I'll play around with the wiring. Any chance you can explain how to transfer files back and forth. I can transfer files to different folders within the board but not from Windows to the pcb. I have a bunch of pcb's with no video output that still work otherwise and testing them all. Thanks.
Awesome stuff. Could you in theory then plug in a USB keyboard to access the MAME settings? It would be cool to retrofit a USB coin mech into the Arcade 1-UP cabinet and configure MAME to use use it.
certainly that should be possible. i haven't looked but it may even have extra GPIO pins which could be used as an extra "coin up". I'm actually a bit surprised A1UP hasn't made a cheap little coin mech and made that a option in their "limited edition type cabs) as for me and I think many others. I find that putting the coin in (and actually limiting the number of games I can play in a day) makes the feeling more real. like when you are 10 and "every quarter counts" so if you totally blow the first man you still play your hardest to make up rather than just "restarting" or killing your self off to start again fresh. having the unlimited "free" retries really dulls the experience and excitement, the "cost" of playing where everything counted and the click of the coin and the startup really adds something that cannot be described. In all of my games that I have I have a rule that I self impose that makes my game play experience more enjoyable and like when I was I kid. on any given night I only get "x" credits to play.

sorry I have not made part 2 yet, been too busy. At somepoint I"ll probably make one but not sure when
i'm in the same exact situation.
I’m also looking to have a few boards reflashed, is this something that you could do?

Can this method be used on the centipede countercade also?

@@ericjvillarreal oh if it's a different pcb board yes it's possible they did not enable a login prompt on that game.
Any updates?
@@YourDadAcademy no I have not done anything recently in regards to that.
