If you're looking for a good Dragon Age playthrough to watch, you've found one. This is easily the best playthrough of the game(s) on TH-cam. He does the entire series justice.
Fun detail (slight spoiler for other origins btw): The part of the commons in Orzammar where the guard and merchant are arguing and the merchant talks about "the new Commander", that's YOU if you had picked Dwarf Noble origin! Big difference of lives between getting spit on by guards to getting the floors polished for you. I love the little details like that in this game!
Other detail, the dwarvern commoner origin character is the only other origin (outside of the chosen origin so Mapo won't find him) where you can find them during the main game.
Spoiler free tips: You can drag the border of the hotbar to get more slots, You can press a key (tab if I'm not mistaken) to highlight every interactive item on screen, Don't play the other origins until the end or you might get biased for certain characters. I've been looking forward for this
This is a good advice though on the other hand personally I am a bit bummed about Dwarf Commoner since that always felt like the least unique of all the paths (Kinda same for Noble I guess). Then again the only two really cool paths with interesting stuff is mage and human noble imo.
Two words - Dragon Age. This is gonna be fantastic adventure, golden times of Bioware. I lost count of how many times I replayed this game and it always amazed me how your character's backstory fits further into the plot, what a masterpiece!
I bought this game waiting for one of the Mass Effects. I wasn’t that into it… until I started playing. Now it is one of my top 3 games of all time. Love it! I wish I could play it modded on a mobile platform like Switch.
@@void1895 the rarest is elf commoner. The Danish is massively more popular. Its a comment regarding popularity. Human noble, mage, Danish elf, Dwarf Noble, Dwarf Commoner, Elf Commoner. In that order.

Wow, I can't believe your actually playing this beautiful classic. I actually recently bought the ultimate edition of this and DA:2. These older games may have some dated combat systems but the story telling elements are the best they can be, it's like the "Pick your own Journey" books.
So happy you're starting this, Mapo! While Mass Effect is my favorite game of all time, Dragon Age is still able to capture that same Bioware storytelling magic! It's definitely my favorite fantasy RPG of all time!
i'm very excited for your journey through the dragon age universe! lot's of juicy stuff here and yeah the origin scenarios was such a cool thing, that I wish more games did, really gives a unique feel on each story origin this way.
Oooh, I love Dragon Age! The whole series. Every installment is very different, and a lot of people hate the 2nd and 3rd, but personally I still found what I crave from Bioware stories and characters in both. Hope you'll be the same way. Enjoy!
Bioware mastered characters in their golden age. Alistair, Morrigan, Varys, HK-47, Henpecked Ho, Garrus Vakarian, Leliana, Liara, Kreia, Wrex… I feel guilty even naming them because I love them ALL. No games will ever compare to Dragon Age, Knights of the Old Republic, and Mass Effect for me. What an age of gaming.
Soo excited to see your playthrough! Sometimes things to interact with are hard to see, the tab button will highlight it. It's a life saver for finding codex entries just in case you would like to know. Regardless, can't wait to see your take on Dragon Age!
Statistics showed that the majority of players didn’t use the various backstories and just went noble human. Therefore, this feature was scrapped in the next two installments. The quality of gameplay in the first hours is the most important thing to expand the players base. Having 6 independent quest lines was looked on as a waste of resources. However, it is one of the things most critically praised about Origins. The pay-off for different decisions during the end-game is also super satisfying and enhances replay ability.
Which is weird considering how popular da was/is. The choice if ones origin really helps. Even those who chose human noble probably felt better about having the choice to choose. And the other origins were chosen quite a bit. If a million people play and only 20% chose non human that us still a huge amount. The whole point of choice is choice. Or just make a linear action game.
Strange because I choose mage immediately and still choose it overwhelmingly over the other stories. Imho the human noble story is actually the most boring one. Also goes to show the majority of players are idiots imho. The different background stories are what make the game interesting to replay, and make it an actual RPG. I didn't like Dao2 that much exactly because it felt so much less like an RPG, and so much more like dumb action/combat games. I didn't even play any dragon age games that came after 2, because it was such a disappointment. But Dao I replay on a regular basis. I'm currently again playing as a mage.
That's crazy. I played all the openings because I love Choose Your Own Adventure shit. The way that all the origins interweaved the storylines later in the game was really satisfying. And if you are unfamiliar with the world, which origin you start with will shade your world experience. My first character was a city Elf and the way Humans treat you in the game makes you really not like them and you were adjacent to the main story's politics. This game also gave you many options to reject party characters before you even know they could be a party character. Sorry Leiliana and Sevran lol. I think later game makers adjusted their games for that to be more obvious since you just missed out on content otherwise. Game makers today don't like making content that players will never play and this game was truly innovative in that regard.
The reason why nobody wanted to play anything else but human noble is because nobody wants to play as a shorter and uglier version of a human or an EVEN shorter and EVEN uglier version of a human. The other races have no proper aesthetic to them, no unique look, they're LITERALLY just shrunk down versions of a human body model so no surprises here that nobody wanted to mess with that.
When Blockbuster was still around Dragon Age Origins was one of the last things I rented and i loved it so much that i never returned it 😅 Easily the best Dragon Age this game devoured my childhood, to this day the only game I've cared to platinum. Man I remember playing this for the first time. Graphics weren't the best, nor was I used to the type of gameplay, but the story, writing and characters kept me going and I was hooked. I loved it so much I read the books. The sequels unfortunately are quite disappointing and the writing/lore felt more inconsistent, so Origins will always be my favourite. Hope you have fun with this series!!

Looking forward to this one favorite bioware game series myself, nice to see a non human blind playthrough, partial to elves myself, im ready for this amazing ride
I'm a HUGE Dragon Age stan and one of the main reasons I love watching other people play this game is because of how your background and choices change the game. I personally am smitten to Alistair so I always play a female human rogue in DA Origins, so it's a lot of fun seeing someone play a dwarf male. Super excited to see how this will shape your story!
The best part of this game is the replayability. Since you have different ”origins” that do affect parts of the gameplay. Like the world reacts differently to your character depending on WHO you play as. And the fact that there are SIX differeent. My fave origin is human noble, I love my Cousland ❤
Imho opinion the human noble is the most boring backstory of them all. I go human or elf mage pretty much every time. Playing as a mage is awesome in Dao, especially when you start messing around with spell combo's. Compared to that the available combat tactics of fighters and rogues are terribly dull. Nothing beats wiping out an entire room of enemies before you've even opened the door by creating a storm of the century...
With todays Dragon Age: Veilguard release day announcement I have scoured TH-cam to try and find a good playthrough to watch of this. I almost gave up hope, but found yours. Love the vibe and love the background for your character. Looking forward to binge watching this series. I hope you play the new game in October!
I'm currently watching Materwelonz's blind playthrough of DA Origins, and got this recommended to me. I don't know your channel, but I think I'll like it! 😁 My "canon" playthrough is a castless dwarf (female)! It's my favorite origin!
Lord give me strength as I wait patiently for some of these words to be pronounced out loud, so Mapo knows the right pronunciation. On all seriousness, I’m so excited for my favorite TH-cam gamer to be playing one of my favorite game series of all time.
I'm so happy you're finally getting your feet wet with Dragon Age! I just started the dwarven commoner origin myself since it was the only one I'd never played. Have a fantastic time playing - DAO is easily one of my favorite games of all time, even though it's starting to show its age. (I also hope you like Leske's voice actor, because you'll be hearing him quite a bit throughout the next two games if you continue the series! :D)
There are plenty of decent mods that impove on game (it's rather old) without breaking it: FtG UI Mod on Nexus - this one is for text (changing size is included) FtG QuickBar - impoves on the size of the quickbar Dragon Age Origins 4K 60FPS Cinematics Mod - better cinematics More Detailed Tooltips (Fixes & Tweaks) - better toolptips, works for dlcs as well Qwinn's Ultimate DAO Fixpack v3.52 - just essential mod with fixes since BioWare didn't remaster the game and has no plans to, haven't released any patches, etc.
Glad to see you play this! This was my first job as a game artist, I created quite a few of the environments in this game :) Fun memories.

It's so rare to see a blind playthrough of this game with a dwarven player character. Makes me doubly pumped for it!
Cannot wait for the story ahead to unfold for mapo, there is a whole world and more of lore to go through.
Sorry if this ends up sounding like a backhanded compliment but I'm really glad Mapocolops has somehow managed to go years never playing so many good games. All these blind playthroughs have been really good. Looking forward to this one.
YESSSSSSS! Finally! I envy you for that first experience - do enjoy man!! Such a beautiful game.
Looking forward to this one favorite bioware game series myself, nice to see a non human blind playthrough, partial to elves myself, im ready for this amazing ride
these Dwarves Are can Be redGuards in Skyrim
Love that you’re playing this while I too am on my dragon age journey! Favorite person to watch play the same games as me by far 😊
Holy shit, someone playing DA as a dwarf on TH-cam. You have no idea how rare this is. Gonna watch you playthrough just for that.
You just finished my favorite game ever Outer Wilds and now you are playing my favorite childhood game??? What a treat
I am so excited to watch someone discover this game for the first time! Can't wait to watch through the story again!
A good thing to know about rogues, they deal bonus damage for flanking their target.
So excited for this playthrough! This was my first ever BioWare game and I still love replaying it :D
Duuude I remember playing DAO blind back in the days without any clue about it and left with one of my best game experiences of all time til this day!
The best part of this game is the replayability. Since you have different ”origins” that do affect parts of the gameplay. Like the world reacts differently to your character depending on WHO you play as. And the fact that there are SIX differeent. My fave origin is human noble, I love my Cousland ❤
Me too. I played female Cousland first and she is my favorite…
I never play other origins because I can not bear the thought of my Cousland dying...
Watching mapo trying to bonk everything with a heartbeat is kind of amazing
You have no idea how LONG I've waited for this! One of my favorite games!
Yes! We made it! First Mass Effect and now Dragon Age. Hope you feel in love with this amazing series.
Glad you'll get to do this.
Played 1 and 2 as a warrior. Quite liked mage in Inquisition but you get to experience all classes with the companion system really. Very good games.
Oh it's my second favourite origin story!
Tip: you play a rogue, not a warrior, forget the shield, go for two weapons or a bow.
Love this game, glad your having fun, Dwarf commoner rogue was also my first playthrough. Then i played each other origin story.
Ready for next one.
So excited to see this playthrough, this is definitely one of my favourite games ever.
Nightmare solo mode is a whole beast in of itself. If you ever see old videos, ppl are frame pausing this game to shear perfection.
This is literally my favourite game ever! You're in for a treat
I've been waiting for this since I discovered this glorious channel, I'm so excited for this playthrough
Oh-hohoho I am SO ready for this playthrough! Dragon Age Origins is one of the best rpg's ever written
I can't believe you're playing Dragon Age! I've watched you since ds1 playthrough, you've become my favourite let's player ^^. Love from Ukraine!
GREAT BIG BUSHY BEARD!
That portrait reminds me of the “there’s no need to be upset” meme lmao
I'm currently watching Materwelonz's blind playthrough of DA Origins, and got this recommended to me. I don't know your channel, but I think I'll like it! 😁
My "canon" playthrough is a castless dwarf (female)! It's my favorite origin!
jesus i got goosebumps just hearing that music in the main menu
The opening paying tribute to the original yu-gi-oh recap was alone worth the like😆
OMG Ive been waiting for this moment for like one year and a half. God!!!
Awesome choice! One of my all-time favorite RPGs, I look forward to following 😊
I've never played through the dwarf commoner origin. I just love the idea of playing as the favored child of the king. Such an interesting storyline.
My favourite Lets player playing my favourite game of all time, it doesn't get much better than this :)
ohhhhhhhhh my god I was so excited to see this video pop up! Very excited to see what you think of dragon age!
Honestly ive loved this game since it came out and originally played it on console, then finally got back into it last year. Its so underrated!
There are plenty of decent mods that impove on game (it's rather old) without breaking it:
FtG UI Mod on Nexus - this one is for text (changing size is included)
FtG QuickBar - impoves on the size of the quickbar
Dragon Age Origins 4K 60FPS Cinematics Mod - better cinematics
More Detailed Tooltips (Fixes & Tweaks) - better toolptips, works for dlcs as well
Qwinn's Ultimate DAO Fixpack v3.52 - just essential mod with fixes since BioWare didn't remaster the game and has no plans to, haven't released any patches, etc.
