Enjoyed this process and can't wait to play this game myself. I though the idea of a primitive who managed to work himself up he social ladder in a megacity would be an awesome arc, and a reason why he would seek power as a motivation, and why he wouldn't have the extra cash.
Then having the two negotiators, I thought it would be cool if the K'erin and the Engineer were part of a negotiation between two corrupt sides, and the former's sense of honour meant he offered the Engineer's freedom if he abandoned his side and came with him on this ship and bring order to the corruption.
That would make a lot of sense!! Looking forward to hearing/seeing your 5 Parsecs journeys!! 😁
I've generated alien names by dragging my fingers across the keyboard which has produced some good results, I think. Characters have grown into their names over time quite well. My go to is Void Pirates, a considerably lighter touch ruleset compared to 5 Parsecs. I'm enjoying character creation and development, making it up as I go along!
my crew's ship is the Scavenger. Essentially, some ugly blocks of polystyrene! I'll be creating a paper model very soon by way of replacement. Dependable Rabbit sounds like the best possible translation from an alien language.
I've never been good at naming characters. Off the top of my head I remember RPG characters I had named "Lemmy Wasp" & "Hassletoff", not very creative!! Now I just go to the numerous websites and roll random. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Spoiler - my latest crew member (coming in Mission #6) has a really appropriate name randomly generated. Love it when that happens!
@@IthaquasBane the current crew contain a slightly amorphous alien, Rhrjheg, and a temperamental feline humanoid and bullet magnet, Sganij (the j is silent and the n is pronounced ñ) Badly wounded most games and growing angrier!
I began my last RPG with characters with no names. they have begun to flesh out, though. looking forward to seeing the crew in action
Look forward to following your campaign. Enjoyed the video. Romance could be a desire to lead the swashbuckling life of a starship captain. Primitive of a comfortable mega city would just be a primitive of that background, a lower member of that society. Good stuff.

Enjoyed your process of creating your crew. I too created documents to assist in the process and I could spend hours rolling up crews and imagining the adventures they would go on. I haven’t watched your first turn episode yet but my first turn was pretty brutal. Hopefully yours wasn’t that bad. Thanks for the content and looking forward to more.
Many thanks John. Trouble I'm having is that the game can generate so many scenarios and missions, its making me want to do everything. Have to control myself hahaha. More to come soon. Bit of a slowdown at the moment due to moving house. Will be back soon
Also have the game but haven't touched it yet, looking forward to start it too, I'm glad i watched this as it gives me a good idea about how it goes, and that i should be getting the expansion too as i heard of it but had forgotten. I feel like much of the work of this initial part could be handled by a spreadsheet though, put the tables on one sheet, then another one with the crew with a nice big "Generate" button to "roll the dice" and give you a nice brand new merry band :D
Also, i happen to like the ship name :P
You can definitely create a spreadsheet for crew creation, but you would lose the turning of pages, the roll of the dice, the anticipation as you check the tables 😁
Just thinking about getting into this game, since i bought a couple of Infinity minis for Reality's Edge, and hadn't have the time to play with my friend, so something solo is great to finally put them together and paint them. So I'm baiting into the playlist to see if it' something for me ;). Nice work, and good luck with the growth I will gladly put a brick in Your wall ;). Cheers :).
