I think the reason is because Aleph just couldn't take the party seriously. They were too puny for his tastes, and didn't see the threat until he got Coda Morgana'd to death. If he'd fought seriously from the start, he would've probably won.
The fusion with the team and Arrow of Time (reprise) always brings me to tears. Such an amazing game that had true passion from the dev team. Best money I've spent in a long time. Thank you posting this.

Got another question if you don't mind me asking; think there's a way to get every version of Aleph's "death by 1000 cut" (ie the swords he uses)? I've seen vids of someone using a coat on him to keep him from changing types, so it is doable. If not, I understand, and agree that the voice acting was nice.
I do have a decompiled copy of Cassette Beasts somewhere on my computer, so I'll look and see if I can get the assets - but that's improbable. The version of Godot that the game runs on has some special modifications that as a side-effect makes certain assets more difficult to extract. Side note, I have a little sneak preview of Helia up, if you wanna see what she looks like. You might be a little disappointed by the video itself, though. I was planning on putting together a Fusions video first, and was working on some modding stuff and maybe putting together a Relationships Dialogue video (and also stuff with unrelated fandoms) but I'll deffo get to that asap! (I probably won't be timing the flow of the fight to the music as much, but I'll still try and make them feel a _little_ dramatic without being overly long lol.) I *would* like to create an ascendant Archangel Ianthe mod one day, though. Seeing her fight without the cassettes - just her sword. Call her the First Angel or Mother of Monsters or something. I even have her hypothetical boss mechanics and dialogue outlined. But again, actual implementation is hard work. Definitely not undoable, and the developers have given advice on how to go about it, but it just isn't a priority at the moment.
The Archangels as a whole are inspired a little by Madoka’s witches (just as Fusion was influenced by Steven Universe, which the two lead developers are both fans of). Morgante is a fully 3D-rendered black-and-white figure with stark and bold lines, Poppetox is claymation, Mourningstar is PSP-like low-poly 3D animation, Nowhere Monarch and Babelith are animated drawings in "rubber hose" cartoon style, Heckahedron and Helia are geometrically-shifting 3d renders of what looks almost like a tech demo, Alice appears to be papercut animation, Robin Goodfellow is an animated picturebook character, Mammon is a moving collage, Lamento Mori is a photorealistic sketch with visible dithering, the Amber Lodge and Mer-Line are 3D-rendered CG objects, and Aleph is basically just normal except for the floating 3D-mirror-triangle. Lenna is rendered much like your sprites are, probably to reflect that as a "hero of another story", she's much like yourself.

Of course you can, you just have to reload the save. It doesn't lock you out of your save file.
