Agreed. My husband is amused, because it'll take me upwards of a year to finish a Soulsborne game due to taking constant breaks after some stress/rage, but I'll always... inevitably... stupidly... go back in, because I love the games. And I get a little better each time!

The pursuer made me rage quit DS2 for a bit. Love DS2s (two-handed) combat moves and lush surroundings, but enemies that don't just die when you kill them and pop up whenever they dang well please did not do it for me. But when I returned after a while I just didn't mind him as much anymore for some reason. Still not charmed by invisible giant cats though.
Julia is genuinely doing excellent for a first playthrough. That ending was so soul crushing. I feel that pain Julia. That's just the Dark Souls experience.

Unironically, completely literally, no sarcasm, I have like 800+ hours played in these games (and thousands more watched) and halfway through this episode Julia's already got more successful parries more than I've ever had. It's kinda crazy. (Actually I forgot, parrying is kinda braindead in BB so I have tons there, but excluding that...!)

I don't know if Julia ever considers it in future play, but speedrunners aren't really playing the same game as everyone else. They're playing *in* the same virtual world, but their goals and methods are different and they'll absolutely ditch things that work and are valid for the sake of time, and they've usually done at least one playthrough of the game proper before they start grinding seconds off by clipping through walls naked with a giant sword. That said, if parrying and taking enemies down in as few devastating blows as possible is your thing, there are absolutely ways to make that work well - and Julia has such a knack for blasting her way through that it's astonishing. I absolutely crawled through and gave up before getting through the Burgh my first time, and I had to unlearn hiding behind a shield to find it fun enough to try again years later.
As someone who has played all the Dark Souls games multiple times through.. I have never used the parry or kick anywhere near as effective or often as Julia. I am very impressed! Teaching this Souls veteran a thing or two!
Also Jacob was right about the stat modifiers. There are variances within grades so two C's can be different. Excited to see the next vid! Julia's kicking butt
I think Julia's playstyle is very much a product of having watched speed runners play. I think for most people who have never seen anyone else play before the natural inclination is to rely on blocking a lot more, which is also usually the setup for circling round for back stabs. At least in my experience it really wasn't until I watched other good players that it became apparently how strong light armour and rolling can be even as a melee character. Or maybe it's cause she's play jedi and sekiro already.
technically it's really good for julia to learn parrys first because it does give a higher crit bonus than backstab and is a lot more versatile because of dark souls' "restricted geography" so if you are good at them will get you killed less. Plus lets not forget the fact that if she continues doing this she will have a massive advantage against funk master cinder man parry, I don't want to spoil it but anyone who knows, knows.
