is this true? if so it definately worked in his favour and his creative vision i assume. Looking at how nike works with designers and more "high fashion" designers at that i believe his collections would be very boring. Just look at how nike pushes collabs with designers and is totally geared towards trend chasing consumers. Even with y3 and adidas, it still takes a certain individuality to wear most of his pieces that i dont think general nike consumers would appreciate. That is why even though y3 is with adidas, it still presents itself a very exclusive and unique line that most people cannot simply put on for the name brand (although theres lots of that too)

sean carter yeah it’s true. Yohji mentioned it himself in some interview, forget which. Agree with u totally! I believe he wasn’t going to be given all the creative control he wanted with nike that’s why he turned down their offers eventually. With adidas y-3 keeps its same aesthetic and look which is respectable:)

hayden friend totally. I love his y3 line as much as his yohji pieces. Starting to see some more branding which makes sense from adidas standpoint but he manages to keep his collection still unique and under creative control. Always loved how adidas dealt with designer collabs and that’s why I personally have a bias that adidas is one of the only normal brands to be able to bridge into the high fashion world. Don’t have the same confidence for Nike and other brands that are starting to produce these uninspiring streetwear trendy collabs unfortunately:(
