- I thoughts WHIPPETS were BAD HIKERS? - Trekking Her 1st Mountain
So I decided to hike to a spot in the mountains that holds a lot of memories for me. It's where I took one of my favourite photos of me with my late hiking buddy Lex. She was an incredible hiker and one great friend. I took a not so straight forward route up the mountain which took me well off the beaten path. Freya took a disliking to my Drone, in fairness it was her 1st time seeing it. All in all a great day out on the hills and delighted Freya enjoyed her 1st mountain trip. Also starting to capture more footage on my Insta360 x3.

Thank you Miriam. She is a feckin live wire 🤣 does not stop. I suppose I'm used to a senior dog and not a pup. She's doing great though and makes me laugh way too much 😂

@@soletrail September back to Wales to Climb Tryfan....heading over on Friday the 6th of September and Climbing Tryfan Early Saturday Morning and Then back on the Ferry in Holyhead at 8:30pm and back in Dublin around Midnight and another 3 hour drive to Cork.....But Till Then im just hiking Cardiac hill,,,Torc Mountain,,,Carrauntoohil

Hi Martin. Lovely idea to recreate that photo of you and Lex, I lost my 14 year old chocolate lab Bracken last December, you get so attached to them. But bloody hell, Freya certainly keeps you on your toes, just a bundle of energy! 😂She's a lovely dog though. When are you planning your first wild camp with her? 😁
Are you not worried about Freya going into bog with her thin legs?
Not really.. she is so light and lives up to the breed... Whippet. No issues so far but keeping a good eye on her.
What does Freya think of sheep? Would love to go hiking more with my dog but worry about disturbing the baa baas. He's trained with good recall and usually minds very well but hasn't met mountain sheep. Most places seem pretty strict on off leash pups, so it would be amazing to build a list of spots where it would be ok.
@@amandagareis7876 thanks for the comment. Freya has never seen sheep yet. Most mountains with sheep don't allow dogs so I only bring her on mountains that don't have them. Plenty around. Whippets are useless for Recall. Freya isn't too bad but she's a sight hound. When she sees she goes for. She chases cats, catches them and then goes into a playful stance and runs away 😂
@@soletrail Thanks so much! She's adorable. I'd love a lurcher some day, the sighthounds are a delightful, silly bunch. (Obviously I love my big boy, but he's all SRS BSNS all the time, lol.) I'm pretty new to hillwalking so in my limited experience it feels like there's infinite sheep everywhere hahaha. I'm sure I'll build up my knowledge of spots without them in time. For now, there's lots of fun to be had in the forestry for dogs, and luckily I'm surrounded by it.
I really enjoy your videos, and it was especially great to see the Knockmealdowns challenge, that's just around the corner from me! I even saw a glimpse of my walking buddy in the kitchen at the end. So fun. I think I'll sign up for the baby leg of the Comeragh challenge in July, and maybe by next year I'll be fit enough to take on the whole thing. Thanks again!

I'd love to adopt a lurcher some day, I love the silly sighthound personalities. My big boy is a german shepherd and a very serious dude most of the time, but I love him for that, too. I'm pretty new to hiking, so in my limited experience so far it feels like there are infinite sheep everywhere I go, lol. But luckily there is lots of fun to be had for dogs in the forestry, and I'm surrounded by it. In time I'm sure I'll find some sheepless mountain routes he can join me for.
