You're so right about going to the concert just to hear Jongho sing. When I saw them live, his singing just ripped through everything. Absolutely crazy, I got chills so often just from his tone, it's so wonderful. In fact, the break the wall tour had over 22 songs and was crazy long and he keeps up those amazing vocals through the whole damn thing. You're doing so great on the names?! I am so impressed ahaha you can name ALL of them. I remember you saying you will probably only be able to do 4/8 by the end of the marathon, yet here you are naming all of them :D I also noticed the Mingi Seonghwa thing and it made me grin. I love that you say you don't care about it hahaha looks like Seonghwa is picking up what Mingi isn't doing, so it's balanced now lol Thank you for your reaction and commentary, always great. I wanted to watch the premier but sadly, was busy!
@@jess_holyfield I also wanted to recommend watching their 2023 kcon performance for pirate king. This is a really good fancam of it. th-cam.com/video/fLEMpGuZ1KU/w-d-xo.html They actually changed some things you said in your reaction to that one. So if you ever find the time it would be cool to hear your thoughts ^-^ I find it very interesting to watch as it is pretty much exactly 5 years after their first pirate king performances and some of them literally doubled in size since then plus the outfits, it's a whole different experience.
Also! they actually might be focusing too much on formations and timing instead of clear movements because of how this particular song is framed on stage. You can't see that here but the screens in the arena during this song are constantly glitching (including splitting the screen in half) between a live camera feed and a pre-recorded performance of this song in the MV outfits so the positions and timing really have to match for it not to look like a mess. It's actually a really cool thing to watch, but I imagine it has to be pretty stressful for the performers.
This was my favorite performance in concert due to the way the ecseens glitches back and forth between the live and a version in their Halateez fits. I was mesmerized.
Jongho was the one who used to drop. Interestingly there were sometimes early on where San didn't drop. More recently, as Jongho struggled with ankle injuries and his knee, he hasn't been dropping. It's probably best if they permanently remove the drop from his choreo to protect him from re-injury. Also, I'm not sure if you caught it--at 3:49 (& 16:07) when San and Jongho half spin with each other, Jongho's mic dropped from his hand, but he managed to pick it up and get back to his mark just as he needed to start singing again.
14:06 when you asked who was supposed to drop with San, I think that was supposed to be Jongho. And possibly due to their choreography for an entire concert and possibly due to his history of injuries, he might have made the choice-or everyone agreed that it was best-for him to sacrifice choreo for vocals since they would want him more for that. Just a guess! I have no facts! I enjoy your reactions and commentary!
Thank you so much for doing this comparison. It was very interesting to hear the things that were the same and the things that were better. I definitely think the things that got fixed make it even more enjoyable to watch. That JongHo for sure had to be more careful is a big factor. This was the tour that landed him in the hospital to finally get the knee surgery. I’m so happy it went well and he’s able to perform more pain free now. They really are outstanding to see live. And you are probably right…we are ALL looking at San in that one section. I mean how can you not. He’s a beast. Just amazing. A fun thing to see you possibly react to or analyze is the grow by member. Like YeoSang specifically. He has grown so much. Whether it’s his actual dance technique or his performance of the choreo I’m not sure. So that would be fun. Side note for performances… one of my favs to watch is the precious/treasure stage. I hadn’t been a very big fan of Precious until I saw that live. Mingi’s part when he bursts out just gets me so hyped everytime. LOVE IT

So funnily enough you are NOT the first person to request me to take. alook at per member growth! The interesting thing to note is that because of how I analyze, I focus on the group choreo aspect SO MUCH that I don't know if I would do a good enough job itemizing my findings for each member haha! I hope that makes sense! But I may someday!!
from what I have heard from kpop idols like changmin of tvxq, and others its understood that groups have slightly different from the music show performance because as you said if they singing live (which ateez always do) they have to conserve energy because the concerts starting from sound check is about 3 hours, another reason members might change their moves is their injury of muscle cramps since at this point there on a tour since august 2022 by november 2022 they were doing shows pretty much 2 to 3 times a weeks . Mingi did have back pain for which he had to take a break so im guessing he still tries not to flair that up on long tours. Jongho had a prolonged injury which is why even ateez did not give him moves that might aggravate his injury. BBtripin has trained them in stamina as well
Completely understand this hence my feedback was adjusted accordingly! Someone was trying to find me an award show version to see if it’s different there between the two but they really have grown so much! Because if you think about it, the stamina required to do this choreography even remotely well in a marathon like performance, showcases their fluency of working together and adjusting as a group in order to make it work for the fans! Impressive as always!
idk if anyone else noticed it but I see at 3:50 or 16:07 in your video Jongho drops his mic and it bounced and he picked it back up but not in a panicked way so I barely noticed it happened and then he went right into singing. They are so good!
If you watch wide shot clips of performances you can see the BBTrippin dancers moving on and off stage. They really get a workout going back and forth. I really appreciate the relationship between Ateez members and the BBTrippin dancers it’s often noticeable in their more current dance practices but even more so in the various dance breaks in their song The Real.
My observation-concerts often it’s clear they are conserving energy and it’s sometimes noticeable. Live performances-where they just perform a song or two they go all out. However the entertainment energy is very high and this song live in a concert hall is just overwhelming with electricity and I think it’s the fact they do the dances either live singing.
Hmm, this wasn't the best video to pick because of the weird framing... A wide shot from a festival/music show/award show usually is the best option to try and analyse the dance aspect of recent live performance. Like you said I think it's important to consider the type of a performance, they will dance differently if it's just that one song to be performed on TV, and in situations like this where they are in a middle of a three hour live concert. They way they have to conserve energy and be cautious about possible injuries/be mindful of existing injuries definitely makes them more reserved in executing parts of it. That's also because during a concert they don't expect anyone to look for a full shot, they are focusing on conveyancing the right energy and live vocals more than showcasing dancing techniques. I'd say a K-pop group at a concert will never try to actually give a clean and technically refined performance it would cost too much energy to do that, that's what TV performances are for not tours when they have over 15 full dances to show during those 2-3 hours.
@@jess_holyfield I could have sworn there was a nice clear version of them performing it on Kcon 2023 but I can't find it... might have been deleted because of copyrights. I'll try to find another good one.
