Stumbled across this video and really enjoyed it! Quick question in regards of your submission timing - why are you done with submitting of football? Is it because the season is very close? Do you notice a slow of sales during the actual season? As someone who is joining the hobby, I want to do something similar to you. I would assume that the cards sell more during the season depending on the player performance.
Great question. I’m done submitting last year’s rookies because I won’t get them back until after the season starts. Prices for guys like stroud and AR will peak right before the season and then dip unless they outperform expectations. I just sell before the season to not risk it
@@synergycards That makes sense! Safer bet versus them not performing well! I do more hockey cards and want to do something similar to rookies so I appreciate the insight. I purchased some grading sleeves via your links - hope it helps you a bit! I look forward to your next video!
Hey man like the videos. Im getting into the raw to grade game and been doing pretty good on the gem rate. I have mostly football right now and was wondering how and when you sell? I figure right before the season is best but do you auction or buy now?
I usually do buy it now on my personal eBay, and if it’s getting close to the start of the season I’ll send off extra football to Probstein to auction it off. I’ll be sending the rest of my football inventory (~10 slabs) to Probstein this week.
I inspect the centering (using a centering tool if needed) and then edges/corners/surface with a flashlight front and back. If it has a chance at a 10, I send it in. If not I hold it back, with a few exceptions.
How can you make a consistent profit when only a PSA 10 grade has any resale value? Any grade less than that is less valuable than a raw card in most cases anymore.
If you submit the right cards, PSA 9’s will be about 10%-20% loss and PSA 10’s will be 70%-100% gain. So even with a below average order like this around 50% gem rate you can still turn a profit. Half the battle is buying the right types of cards to send in, and the other half is gem rate.
The red white and blues have a horrible gem rate. I pulled the Ausar Thompson and was excited for the color match and planned to grade, but the gem rate is so bad that it's not even worth trying
@synergycards maybe you'll know the answer. I know you're supposed to have your monthly grading special orders shipped by the last day of the month, but I heard people still send them after the month ends and there are. o issues. I have some NFL cards on the way that I want to include but they'll be here in a few days
As long as you complete your submission online before the deadline you can ship them after the month ends. You can’t edit your submission after the month ends so keep that in mind.
I understand you're trying to turn this into more of a business. Do you receive a 1099 from eBay? Is this an LLC? Are you getting taxed at 28%? How do you record the cost basis and are you netting your capital gains losses, because if it's a loss, is it considered a hobby and not able to be deducted? Sorry for all the questions.
Great questions. I haven’t received a 1099 from eBay yet because most of my sales (until this year) have been through fb/ig and Probstein. I track my financials very closely though and reinvest everything back into cards, so I try to keep 0 cash on hand as much as possible. This year has been exponentially bigger than other years and I’m sure I’ll get a 1099 from eBay so I will have to figure out how to do all the reporting and such soon. It’s not an LLC yet but that’s in the works now as well.
Generally they list them within a 1-2 weeks of receiving them, sometimes less than a week. However, I wouldn’t recommend sending anything worth less than $10 as they have extra fees for those items. And I would be wary of sending anything worth less than $20, because they never use the eBay envelope to ship. Just my thoughts.

Thank you! That really means a lot! Best of luck! I’d love to get into hockey eventually when I have more time to learn!

What is your process for pre-grading? i am thinking this would be a good way to expand my pc and stay busy in the hobby.

Yeah they’re brutal this year for nba and nfl for some reason.

@@synergycardshow long does probstein take to list cheap cards? I’m looking into using them

amen pink ice is 40$ not 70
Yeah some of the prices will be off because I’m posting this video late. Prices were based on sales a few weeks ago
@synergycards oh ok makes sense crazy how that was 70$ the market is rough
Yeah the national and football hype drives basketball prices down at this time of year
