    Mental Magic, from what I undrrstand, is composed of a deck of random cards, and you have to play cards that match the mana cost of the random card, and you cant use the same card twice. For example a random card in your hand that costs 1G can be a Rampant Growth, a Muscle Sliver, a Grizzly Bears, or any other card that costs 1G.

    GOLD WEST should get so much more love, good call Zee, it's in my top 10 eurogames. Such a concise design and a beautiful production. Its a modern euro: 10 turns and done. Simple but deep with so many competitive routes to score points.

    Great video, as usual! For me, Mansions of Madness and the LCG are very different. I love them both, but I enjoy the LCG way more. Mansions has such great atmosphere, easy set up, and simple gameplay. I love it for solo play and to play with slightly more casual players. I don't as much care for the limited actions on each turn (too many turns burnt up moving three spaces), the rails that each scenario is on and the lack of major difference between investigators (just general stats and usually one ability). Again, I love it, it's one of my favorites, but those are my drawbacks.
    The LCG just has way more interesting decisions from start to finish and just higher level of complexity overall for me. Though it takes more initial investment of time to build a deck, it makes the investigators SO much more interesting and different. Each deck you might build for each investigator can be very, very different as well. In terms of gameplay, on each turn you get more actions and a wider range of potential actions between the base actions and the different cards you might have. This also helps replay-ability for me (though it is cool that the Mansions app will change things up as well). There are even better ways to help each other out in the game, making for better co-op too.

      Hard Bathsalts I highly recommend trying it out! It’s very good! The core campaign alone will have some replay value plus you can buy scenario packs for pretty cheap if you want to get new experiences without buying a whole campaign or cycle.

      Disagree. I love when there’s a nice mix of content and banter/diversions about gaming. I don’t need a full minute plot summary of the Rambo series or a Captain America comic.

    • @Vaole
      @Vaole 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were worse in the last video and before that people were arguing for even longer videos. Just under an hour is fine (45 minutes might even be better). They still had time for some banter, but kept moving along. With this top 100, this video has been good. I kinda liked the first couple that were even shorter, but I don't think we will see that again, too many people wanted longer videos, even the Dice Tower team joked about it in one of them. I agree Rambo and Captain America parts went too long, but it didn't bother me too much. I am just trying to encourage shorter, tighter videos.

    If you are taking recommendations.... I'd like to see Top 50 lists for games from the last 3 years only. This removes all the old games that everyone knows about and the list will obviously change quite a bit each year as well.

    • @Vaole
      @Vaole 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, because I (and many others) do not have an encyclopedic knowledge of board games so I learn about (and am reminded!) of games that I do not know about and it also shows how good they are because even if they are old it shows how well they stand up against today's games. If they did it once that would be ok, but I would not want it to replace the current Top 100 yearly lists.

    • @RhinoViper

    I know they invited it when they named the game Kingdomino, but gameplay-wise, it’s really nothing like dominoes. In dominoes you’re playing a one-dimensional game. You can only put each tile in two possible places. In Kingdominio, you’re working in a two-dimensional space and trying to weigh up which land types to go for and whether to pick the good tile or have first pick in the next round.

    MoM 2.0 is so much fun! 3+ hours of hitting "OKAY" after reading aloud the blurbs because FFG only got voice acting for the intro and outro and a precious few story moments. And finding the right direction / thing to click is purely arbitrary and lucky, and you get punished for being unlucky, for some reason. Arkham Horror LCG is shorter, isn't bogged down with fiddley rules and feels more rewarding. Hell, I'd play Elder Sign before MoM.

    The, "if you wanted to attack me, you could," complaint for Kemet seems weird when saying Blood Rage is better. Blood Rage makes it even easier to attack the other players. Between being able to deploy exactly where their units are, and raiding allowing adjacent players to join the battle. The "if you wanted to attack me, you could," is even worse than in Kemet.
    I'm not saying Blood Rage is better/worse than Kemet. They're both great games with interesting mechanisms to upgrade your faction. Both, put the focus on the attacker (pillager) winning combat (sans the Loki strategies in Blood Rage). It's unlikely that all the outer territories in Blood Rage don't get pillaged. So, in a 4 player game, there's at least 6 times combat occurs each age. It's actually more than that since the pillager losing will likely result in a pillage happening later. With Kemet, the maximum combat in a round for 4 player is 8 times. And, that's if every player use all their move actions to attack (which is unlikely).

    • @nicksbordone5271
      @nicksbordone5271 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't played kemet, but it seems like they are different types of games. In Bloodrage, no one can attack you, you just initiate a pillage and other players can choose to join.

      I own both and prefer MoM but I can see why people would like Arkham Horror more.
      I think what would make MoM amazing is if there was an expansion that was Legacy-like. Where you do multiple sessions where each one affects the later one. Maybe not legacy-like, but like the card game where the expansion stories have one large story vs MoMs single scenarios.

      Im thinking about getting MoM. Is it a similar experience to the lcg but without the deck building and campaign? It's hard to break out the lcg because of the nature of it. Complex rules, not enough cards in 2 sets for a 4 player game, having to take apart and rebuild decks to play with a new group, etc. I like the theme and mechanics though

      @@nicksbordone5271 I don't think that you can really compare those two games besides the theming. You are right, that is it easier to bring out MoM every once in a while and having a great time. But in my opinion, I prefer AHtcg because the gameplay is more involving.

    Hail Hydra - I recently ordered this game, it's on the way, but have not played it yet
    Puerto Rico - I agree with Zee, San Juan is better, but still like Puerto Rico, it is my 54th favorite game
    Queendomino - is a fantastic game! It is my 11th favorite game. I also agree with Sam, Kingdomino is forgettable, however, it makes an incredible expansion for Queendomino! Mix them, it's awesome! I am not a big fan of the expansion. Only played it twice, I do enjoy the random extra point tiles, in which you choose 2 each game to score different extra point opportunities. The giant tiles themselves do nothing for me.
    Dead of Winter - is my 31st favorite game and like Sam isn't getting much play. I been waiting for a different them for this system.
    Tzolkin - is not on my top 100 but enjoy it, one of the heaviest games I do enjoy.

    I don't see how Caverna "destroys" Agricola. I enjoy both games, but they deliver entirely different gaming experiences, even within the worker placement genre they arent close enough to say one "replaces" the other. Agricola is a much more tense and cut-throat game than Caverna will ever be, which is fine, theres obviously room for both. But, to belabor the point, I don't see how one "destroys" the other.

    I remember reading a case of a guy who fell from a plane and lived because his crashed through a bunch of pine branches which broke his fall enough to survive. I think it was during WWII. Crazy story, but supposedly true. Also, Rambo jumped from the side of a cliff to avoid being killed by the guy in the helicopter, he didn't jump from the helicopter.

    Eldritch Horror: does anyone know the card which Tom and Zee are referring to?

    • @kjerins
      @kjerins 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are actually two - one is a mythos card that discards a solved mystery unless players collectively spend clues equal to half the number of players, and the other is a research encounter that discards a solved mystery if the player fails a skill check. Both of those are super uncool, and I've permanently removed them from my copy of the game.

    • @SunnyNeuroshima
      @SunnyNeuroshima 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kjerins Thanks! Just to clarify, in case anyone else is interested, the two cards you're referring to are:
      - Mythos card "All For Nothing"
      - Azathoth's Research encounter card number 5 (City encounter)
      I'm inclined to agree with everyone on this and will also remove those cards from my copy of the game. Thanks again.

    Also: “less prolific” You’re searching for “ubiquitous.” 🙂
