Travis throughout CR history: Ah! Don’t scare me, I hate horror!
Travis in C3: I am the horror.
You die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Well, yeah. Being a horror movie victim is terrifying; being a horror movie monster is a power trip.
The first 10-12 episodes of this campaign where Travis genuinely getting freaked out, by Laudna, by Matt’s creepy monsters and the story he was telling. I think he just came through the other side of that :).

I love that Travis is actually getting the crew wood crafts in person as their in character gifts
one of the many reasons chetney is my favorite pc of this campaign ! the dichotomy of him sneaking out to nearly kill a shopkeep for overcharging him on some chisels vs him giving heartfelt gifts to each of the other characters based off their personality/backstory
He's is the most wholesome giant ever
The absolute a typical gentleman giant is travis
@@JubioHDX ⁷
@@JubioHDXi loved the irony of Orym calling Chetney a "good soul" the scene immediately after Chetney almost murdered a shopkeeper because she overcharged him on a set of chisels. (The intent was to scare but he also did real damage to a commoner not wearing armor, she probably only had 10HP and his attack did 9 damage, I'm surprised she didn't immediately die)
He's so sweet
It jumped out at me that Matt described the flying manta rays as being camouflaged from the top so they would blend in with the terrain below. That implies they are hiding from something that flies higher than them, so I'm wondering what larger predator Matt has waiting for higher levels

Dragons, Rocs, swarms of Stirge, and Larger Flying Mantas.

@@gabrielortiz3811 Im pretty sure you're talking about the Ixitxachitl. These arent those guys.

Scanlan: "I'm the leader."
Nott/Veth: "Caleb's our leader."
FCG: "Ashton's our leader."
Kingmaker
Given the running theme, Campaign 4 will have Ashley as the leader
That's one of Sam's shticks to create chaos: impose the PC he's closest to as the leader of the group, especially if they're not suited for it.
Designating the leader is an interesting thing to see Sam the player do especially since Liam always picks his race/class
He probably didn't want a repeat of campaign 1
Chetney going full lycan mafia on that shopkeep was Travis's revenge for every shopping episode.
It's part of his Genius Plan to show that he is "In Control of his Beast" so that he is -not- hunted down, and get a "Meteor" dropped on him.
All that pent up frustration from the 5000gp ring of fire protection 😂😂😂
You're not wrong! Subtle revenge on the cast - he made them sit through a whole scene of pure action. 😂

My low-key favorite moment of this episode is how after the episode ends Marisha is like "I didn't mean to take your pretty crystal!" and Laura just genuinely responds "No, It's fine it's fine!". sometimes it's good to have reminders that your characters feelings are different from your own.
i love it too! even though the characters are upset and having conflict doesn't mean that the cast members aren't absolutely loving and enjoying it. just another way it shows how committed they are to the story and keeping the characters true
I loved the book hat of protection went up as well so you know poir Marisha is stressed.
Reminds me of when Scanlan had his: what’s my mothers name moment.. think the cats felt a bit more guilty towards Sam, hard to gauge the vibe through a screen. But it was an amazing scene and hopefully nothing personal.
Yeah Laura's clearly super excited about this even though Imogen is pissed (or maybe more accurately BECAUSE Imogen is pissed)
And she gave us that extra little moment where she goes "It's good. It's good, actually" and then kind of covers her mouth like she remembered she was still on camera. We know that crystal was doing something weird and transmutative and making Imogen attached to it. I bet she was getting secret effects from it the same way the cursed dagger worked in C2.
Laura is such an incredible actress. The way she said "you lied" BROKE. MY. HEART.

@HopesNDreams 😂 yes to the coloring books and dancing lights, I'd pay good money to see Sam RP that. And I think that's a good theory! I assume he doesn't breathe...? @HopesNDreams They probably *could*, but that wouldn't be much fun for Sam. Doubt they would resort to that, at least not more than once.
@HopesNDreams I was thinking about this too. If Laudna goes far enough into Undead Warlock, she'll get Undying Nature, which makes her stop needing food, water, and air for sustenance (like a real zombie)! That would make her an ideal candidate for hiding in the hole if needed.

@@aliciacordero8399 and a permanent sunlight enchantment
@@bdletoast09 just takes enough plants to produce enough food to feed you (if they were food plants), there is no magic #.
All the CO2 you release ultimately comes from the food you eat. So a good rule of thumb is that a farm that can provide for your caloric needs indefinitely will also meet your O2 needs.
Not only that, but if you bring in outside food, you slowly add more and more carbon to the cycle in the closed environment, until the air becomes unbreathable. So you ultimately have to have food plants, not ornamentals, in a closed system...
Watching them test out every single possible thing with the portable hole Matt gave them really reminds me that they truly are just like any other D&D group.
Matt reminding them that they don't know that opening a dimensional space inside another dimensional space is bad. Priceless!
@@davidbeppler3032 Having a portable nuke and/or emergency teleport in your back pocket is "bad?" I dunno, man. I'm just excited for basically all of the possible outcomes of this situation!
Especially because of how Liam alluded to it. Only he and Matt are in on the fact that Bell's Hells now have a bomb. That sounds like SUCH good foreshadowing for a moment when Liam could shock the entire table and turn the tide of battle by revealing his ace in the hole. _Especially_ since Orym has developed a reputation for breaking magic items.
T hey are good actors
@@Drekromancer The extradimensional spaces are destroyed; that doesn't imply a bomb, just losing all your stuff... And then there's the getting stuck at some rando space in the Astral Plane. I'm sure the other actors know this, too, my dude. Jester carried the Handy Haversack, so we can be reasonably confident that, at least Laura is familiar with this, as well 😅
@NoThankYou Le Mao not a nuke per se as it's not even deadly... but putting a dimensional space (e.g. portable hole) into another dimensional space (e.g. bag of holding) instantly destroys both items and opens a wild portal to the Astral Plane than instantly sucks in everyone within 10' (no save) and tosses them randomly within the plane. The Astral Plane is survivable (unless you meet its more hostile denizens) but that randomness and certainty of the effect can pretty much instantly end any bossfight in which the boss does not have planeshift, hence why some people consider it a pocket nuke.
That being said, a boss who is hard enough to validate sacrificing 2 extremely useful Wondrous Items would most likely have means of returning. If not by their own abilities, by way of simply surviving long enough to find a portal back and/or recruit some evil-aligned locals (e.g. githyanki) for mutual profit and as such would come back with a vengeance later in the campaign.

Same, like he's so good. At the same time, you could argue he wasn't really playing into railroading Marisha into Delilah, because objectively, she actually needed to hold the crystal to gain more knowledge about it, outside of the fact that entering into contact with it would have triggered the event. The only other way around it would simply have been to make Imogen hold it while Laudna got closer and looked over it. But yeah, it would have been pretty odd of a method to inspect it. You'd have needed to know that there was something wrong with the crystal to act that way, and the party didn't really know enough to be mistrustful. Maybe if Laudna acted more cautiously this could have been avoided, but it's a hard one. Like, I think that eventually, considering the close relationship between Imogen and Laudna, Imogen would have lended it to her friend to inspect it so that she could help her out. This was an hard af event to escape from and i can't wait to find out what are the consequences going to be XD
@@Mars34582 This is far, far from railroading imho, in fact I feel this is peak DMing.
He never mentioned the stone to Laudna before this moment, he didn't even bring it up this time. The convo between Laudna and Imogen happened by itself, which, to be honest, he could be confident was gonna happen eventually.
And then he just subtly nudged her in the right direction.
She could've not had the convo at all. She could've not brought up the stone. She could've decided not to touch it out of justified fear.
And it feels like such a major, planned moment, too. Up to this point I expected some standard The One Ring thing was gonna go on with Imogen, and this is was such a fresh, hard hitting twist with a spicy bit of anxiety inducing drama on top of it.

Eh.. those two characters have been together for multiple years and there's never been even the slightest hint they've ever so much as had a mild disagreement. It's just been portrayed on both sides as an incredibly supportive, open and unconditional love. Either that crystal was having a seriously negative, Golem-esque influence on Imogen's character (something they weren't really selling very hard..) or its really odd and out of left field for her first response to not be "something must be seriously wrong with my partner" given they've been nothing but honest with each other about both the crystal and D. I'm thinking that "You lied" was the shock and Gnarlrock withdrawal talking. Here's hoping for the FCG therapy/dreamwalk session next week before the break, so that Southern Gothic (Imogen/Laudna) can be back on good terms.
Laudna and Imogen will definitely need a couple therapy from FCG
Southern Gothic is the best name for this duo I have ever heard
I saw online someone say that they saw it more it being about Laudna lying about the fact that Delilah didn’t have control over her and if it is that then we are in for so much angst.
I want them back on good terms, but also the angst is so delicious
Then you see it change to Laura and Marisha and Laura’s like “it’s totally okay I just want to know what happened but I’m not mad bestie!”
I take some comfort in Laura saying "It's fine! It's good" around 4:12:35 that the events at the end of the episode may actually benefit Imogen, even if she doesn't know that yet.
Yeah it’s definitely an “unwilling to part with” cursed item. The fog should clear pretty quick since it’s been destroyed.
I had a character who had an unhealthy obsession with Demon Glass, hoarding it in secret. As it started to affect him, mechanically, the party held an intervention.
They stole his glass. They buried it in the tundra. And he did some things that would have very well gotten him killed, if the party wasn't so close-knit.
Tragic. Full of so much raw emotion, and even a level of hatred... But it was what the character needed to move forward and grow
Not to be a bummer but I wouldn't find comfort in that at all for the characters relationships. That second bit was Marisha irl apologizing to Laura and Laura, not Imogen, reassuring Marisha not to worry about Laura's feelings about it lol. BIG difference.
They have a healthy separation of player and character, which is good for their mental health, but not indicative of anything for the characters. You'll often see similar things when characters have fights or say/ do Dickish things towards each other. They'll say thing about how good the scene was and how cool the other person's choices were, and smile and laugh about it, etc. But the characters are still pissed/ upset/ confused/betrayed, etc.
I agree that the gnarl rock curse being lifted off Imogen will probably be good for her in the long term, just because curses are generally not a great thing to have, (though Delilah being happy is very VERY bad news lol), but that's unrelated to Laura reassuring Marisha out of character and isn't related to what the characters feel at all. We shall see.
@@mayaenglish5424 so while I do understand what you’re saying and I would agree with you 99% however I believe what Laura was saying at the end was “it’s a good thing” not just “it’s good”. I take that to mean Laura wasn’t just re-assuring Marisha that she isn’t upset at all. But Laura means it’s a good thing the rock is gone and that isn’t something Laudna should feel bad about. Despite whatever Delilah is getting out of it. With cursed items that have the effect “unwilling to part with it” the fog should clear up pretty rapidly once that item has been permanently removed from their person via Remove Curse, Greater Restoration or in this case destroying the magic item. The “you lied” line was definitely only some lingering effect and after Laura talks with Matt about Imogen’s reaction they should be on the same Page that Imogen will be relieved from the curse.
@@mayaenglish5424 oh yeah, I just meant long-term for the character in game terms: Laura the player knew the rock was bad news. We'll see how the actual characters handle it over the next several sessions.

That ''You lied'' from Laura is so simple, but so effective
It's possibly one of the most effective roleplay choices of the season so far. Laura knows that Laudna didn't do it, and Imogen probably suspects that Laudna didn't do it on purpose - but Imogen's attachment to the orb had become almost One Ring-like.
