My favorite music is the toe tappers of the 20's and 30's. Leon did us all a favor by making so much of this great music approachable and enjoyable by today's audience. Today you can find much of it by the originals on YT, but it used to be very difficult to find, and LR was unique in his song selection. Loved the man.
RIP Leon Redbone. We lost another great today. Leon Redbone passed away and his family jokingly and lovingly had this to say: “It is with heavy hearts we announce that early this morning, May 30th 2019, Leon Redbone crossed the delta for that beautiful shore at the age of 127. He departed our world with his guitar, his trusty companion Rover, and a simple tip of his hat.”
as a relatively old dude, I've seen a lot of industry Icons pass. But nothing has made my heart as heavy as loss of Leon. My only solace is knowing he's up there jammin' with the stars. Thanks Leon, for all you've inserted into my life. Very rare, but very real tears here.
Not only was he a great singer/ entertainer but he could make that guitar talk. Miss his wonderful live performances. Happy we still have his videos we can enjoy.
Jimmy Young, a DJ, was about to play one of his songs on the very formal English BBC . he pronounced Leon's name as 'Lay On Red Bone' The silence was stunning as he realised what he'd just said.
Try and beat this list of songs Leon should do: Red River Valley It's Only A Paper Moon All That Meat and No Potatoes Nature Boy St. James Infirmary That Lucky Old Sun Blue Moon of Kentucky Anniversary Song Flat Foot Floogee Puttin' On The Ritz
one of his last performances the drinking and dementia was catching up to him--the last final ones he only tuned his guitar and did drunken babbling--to bad he did not bow out five years earlier. He did it with class and went up to the end and people had zero idea what truly was going on. when he croaked even the family did not sell him out.

Leon you were one of a kind and sadly we will never have another like you . Rest in blissful peach over the delta with rover and your guitar.
We promise to be good, Leon. RIP to one of my favorite musicians. And thanks, dad, for introducing us back in the '70s.
I love this guy! His concerts are fun.
He looks almost exactly the same now as he did 35 years ago. Something timeless about Redbone.
Anyone who knew me in my youth, knew I had a bigger collection of Leon Redbone than any other artist.
Love this performer

anyway its a sad thing that friends wife kids family people worked with him decades said they never saw him communicate with a another human.
dead drunk plus relaxers--clear to all very sad.
Should have been: Q:"Who was that lady I saw you with last night?" -- A:"That weren't no lady-- that was my wife!"
JagerMeister is what he drinks on stage. And a lot of it.
