Hey Hanna, Happy New Year! So glad to see a new video from you. Slowdive, Drop Nineteens and Beach Fossils were in my top 2023 albums too, in fact, Slowdive was my number one. I get what you mean about 'everything is alive' not being as great as their older work, but Slowdive are one of those bands to me where even their not so great stuff is still so good! Absolutely love Curve, The Sundays, Best Coast and Airiel too. Gosh, you have such impeccable taste! Can't wait to see your updated room tour soon!

Nice to see you again. You give a lot of albums I am going to look into. Didn't buy a lot of brand new releases this year but my favorite was City and Colour- The Love Still Held Me Near. Such a beautiful chill album. I guess I was lucky to find out about Jellyfish - Spilt Milk late and missed out. All the Hum releases were stunning and I was surprised at how incredible sounding they were. It was close to audiophile sounding. Morphine - The Night also blew me away. They have such a unique sound especially with no guitar. Have a Happy New Year.

Happy New Year Hanna. I really enjoy your videos...especially discovering bands I have never heard of. A while back you did a video that included The Go-Betweens and I have been obsessed with then ever since. I bought one of their 3 boxsets. I wish I could buy the other two but they are going for sick money since they are out of print now. At least I found my favorite of the 3 for a reasonable price.

Great to see you again! I'll be YouTubing a number of your choices. Something I just got in the mail this past week was Ghost Days "Angel Tears". A drawback is it's only on cassette. Dreampop. Not exceedingly original but I like it. I liked the third Lael Neale album from 2023. One of my favorites. I will be getting the most recent TENGGER album. I saw them on KEXP last week and loved the performance. Take care!

Hey Brett! Nice to hear you missed my videos! Yeah, work definitely ruins time for hobbies. I was an independent contractor before this new job, so I definitely had more free time before. Oh well. The positive is that I'm making more money now. TBH, I haven't fully listened to the Hypnogogue by the Church. I love the Church to pieces, but I think I've been turned off that it's just Steve Kilbey left in the band. I really miss Marty and Peter being in the band. They had such monumental input. I have to admit that 2023 was the first year I fell out of lots of new music because I was concentrating on paying off 3 music festival cruises I'm taking this year...Feb, March & April...of your top 17, I'm familiar with or heard of a few...Eyelids, Slowdive, Drop Nineteens, Emma Anderson (Lush are one of my all-time faves), Bethany Cosentino (didn't Butch Walker produce that??), GBV, Depeche & Bully (I have all their prior albums & haven't heard the latest but need to buy), but of all those, only heard/know Depeche...want to check out all your picks...and don't know any of your honourable mentions either...of the reissues, I used to have the coloured vinyl Omnivore Jellyfish records, but stupidly sold them when the CD reissues came out afterwards, also have the Stack O Tracks instrumental 2CD, the live record, solo stuff, Puffy Amiyumi...and the Lickerish Quartet 1st EP, need 2nd & 3rd...you do know TLQ right?? No?? I'm finally watching this and yah...just wonderful! A great mix of stuff I know, and stuff I'm eager to check out. I had the privilege of seeing Eyelids, Depeche Mode, Slowdive and Nation of Language this year and they were all awesome! Eyelids was the biggest surprise in the sense that I wasn't expecting them to be so much fun! It was more of an intimate gig and I had such a great time. @@TheOmahaIntrovert I played most of the new OMD and I found the songs very weak, not typical of any earlier OMD, and just kind of meandering, lacking energy
or melodies. I was rather disappointed. I did manage though to pick up the newer 2 CD best of OMD earlier this year at a local record shop, which I was shocked
that they even had that in stock.

Happy New Year Hanna ! My Top 5 were Slowdive , Emma Anderson , Nation Of Language , Depeche Mode & Blur. Nation Of Language were new to me & what a discovery. They remind me of New Order in the early post Joy Division ➗️ days. Biggest disappointment was no new Cure album ( Again ! 😠 😡 ) Best Song & Video was kisses 💋 by Slowdive & Best live show was The Cure . I hope Songs Of The Lost World isn't permanently lost. Glad to see you making videos again. I was getting a bid bored of watching vinyl vlogs about 50 year old classic rock albums that they keep re-releasing ad nauseam. I don't usually comment of these vlogs but I was happy to see you list Ist Ist on your list. I've been following them from the first full length album and have all three on both vinyl and cd. Yeah, a bit obsessive. I guess you saw that they're releasing a vinyl LP of the two early EP's on one album. Yeah, I preordered it.

I wasn't totally blown away by the new Stones album but it had two tracks I really liked, Whole Wide World and Sweet Sounds of Heaven. Also it was such a treat to get some never before heard Pete Townshend demos and 1971 live Who on the Who's Next Super Deluxe box.
Love the ultimate Who's Next edition too, 109 tracks with the Young Vic & SF shows! Have you seen the Lifehouse graphic novel? Looks pretty amazing although it's mega $. Really dug into the whole experience & fell in love with Greyhound Girl all over again, think it's a connector between Behind Blue Eyes & The Seeker, & Put The Money Down & Water sound more vital than ever. Hi Hanna, happy new year. Glad to see The Murder Capital make your honorable mentions list. I’m onboard with Nation of language as one of the best synth pop bands out there. I checked out Ist Ist from your earlier recommendation, enjoyed the lp.
The surprise for me this year was I tended to listen to new material from older bands, which I usually don’t do. The Hives and Iggy Pop got most of my attention, but there were also new releases from OMD, Sparks, A Certain Ratio, Bush Tetras and The Kills.
A few others that caught my ear, Johnathan Bree, The KVB, Fews, Magic Wands, The Drums and perhaps my favorite of the year from a new artist Mary Jane Dunphe a really well crafted synth pop lp.
Hey there, Kevin! I've heard pretty great reviews for the new Iggy Pop, so it's on my list to check out further! I also want to check out the new ones from A Certain Ratio and Bush Tetras. Great list you have! You definitely gave me several that are "new to me" and that I look forward to sampling. Love that we can all share our love of music here!
My family and I visited our nephew in Omaha last summer and we love it! We stayed in the Market District just across the street from Hollywood Candy. The vibe was cool and people were friendly. That new park with the skating rink is amazing, Omaha really surprised me, I can’t wait to go back.

I really enjoyed Ist Ist, Bully, Beach Fossils but especially Flyying Colours. I have probably spun that record at least 50+ times since picking it up. What a wonderful record! I listened to a lot of Last Tourist (self titled album) and a TON of Doused full length record Murmer. If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend. Glad to see that you included Sparkler in your honorable mentions section. They are one of my favorites of 23' as well. I look forward to checking out Deary and Draag, both sound right up my alley. Big Sonic Chill from Sparkler - honestly, I wanted to include it in my top 10 somehow! Just wish they had that on vinyl or CD, though! I was bummed! They are going back into the studio this month!

What great news that they are getting back into the studio this month as well! Now if they would just release their stuff on some format other than cassette tape ha ha. I am finally back at work this week so I had time to listen to Slow Salvation, Deary and Draag. I am blown away by Slow Salvation, and will be getting that EP for sure. Deary was also a winner and I have added that to my "to buy" list. I have listened to Draag a few times now, and I am starting to really dig it a lot. All 3 are winners! I am so glad that the Drop Nineteens have a new release out as well. Come on and reissue Delaware already ha ha. Thanks so much again for the great recommendations, as it seems that we do indeed share a similar taste in music. Hi Christian! Aww, thank you for being so kind! My speakers are Definitives. I'm actually quite happy with how they sound for what they are. Upstairs we use some Panasonics with my turntable there. I do not know the exact model of my Definitives off the cuff. Will have to check later. Happy 2024 to you! Yay!

They have two full albums, "Back Home" from 2022, and "Sistahs" from 2019. My favorite is Back Home, but Sistahs is good, too. These women make some punkish, cool, thumping music, and the lead singer's voice is just. the. best.

Thank you for this excellent and very shoegazey video! I also loved the Slowdive and Hotline TNT records released this year ; and Welshpool Frillies was certainly one of the best GbV albums from the last ten years. I also discovered Lush late this year (better late...) and was floored by how great they were.
Anyway I've added quite a few of your picks on my listening list, I'm impatient to immerse myself in them.
From my own "best-of-2023" list, I can recommend you :
- The Lemon Twigs' "Everything Harmony" which is a perfect record of gorgeous retro (power) pop,
- Lankum's "False Lankum", irish traditionals revisited as intense post-rock masterpieces,
- The American Analog Set's "For Forever" which was an unexpected return from one of my favorite slowcore bands, with their wonderful signature sound mixed with dazzling new compositions.

The Summer Suns - Greatest comp + all the singles & ep cuts I tracked down on yt; just like the name suggests, some of the finest, sunniest & jangliest Australian power pop you could ever hope to hear with the legendary Dom Mariani of The Some Loves, The Stems, The DM3 & more
The Connells - Ring 30th Anniversary - all of the demos are the icing on the celebration cake of this gorgeous album from one of my all-time top bands from NC or anywhere, plus it's got all the b-sides & acoustic takes
Ramones covers! - binged on this in 2023 big time & rediscovered a lot of what I've always adored about this band of titans who were there when it all started one night on the radio with a Hey! Ho! Let's Go! some of the best are The Song Ramones The Same, Todos Somos Ramones, Gabba Gabba Hey, Beat On The Brat, all of the cool ones from Tim Timebomb of Rancid, & all the Pet Semetary covers, including a chill classic from Robin Wilson of the Gin Blossoms
Scruffy The Cat - The Good Goodbye: Unreleased Recordings 1984-1990 - miss this cool, rocking Boston band & Charlie Chesterman so damn much, RIP - this is an amazing comp & a treasure chest of gifts: punk, rockabilly, country & pop all rockin' & reelin' on a freight train rollin' the tracks down the lost highways
Look Them Straight In The Eye & Say...Pogue Mahone!! - RIP Shane MacGowan, been finding a ton of unbelievably good stuff on this collection, one of the best lyricists of any generation, led me to the epic comps Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys & Son Of... where Shane's wonderful seafaring version of Leaving Of Liverpool lives
Rancid - Tomorrow Never Comes - love the spirit & energy of this way too short but very welcome lp & the inspiration to dig deep into Tim Amstrong's Tim Timebomb project with an amazing cast of talented friends on hundreds of incredible covers & originals
Sundowners - Pulling Back The Night - came for the Paul Weller guest spots & fell in love with the rest
Natalie Merchant - Keep Your Courage - will always have a huge love for 10,000 Maniacs & Natalie's solo work & her new lp is really strong & stands tall with her best, so much to like here & she sounds as powerful as ever with the voice of a bad** angel & writes with the soul & pounding heart of a poet
Ash - Race The Night - this band always delivers for me & this album is pure happiness start to finish
Gunship - Unicorn - one of the coolest synthwave bands out there & they were born to make jamming videos
Teenage Fanclub - Nothing Lasts Forever - ofc they'll always have my heart, even if they're missing an important piece with Gerard Love gone, but on the plus side I found his perfect Lightships project's lp Electric Cables
The Neptune Power Federation - Hidden Hymns Of The Underworld - these guys from the land Down Under put the roll in rock & the rock in roll, cranking up the fuzz & kicking out the jams like no tomorrow, this comp collects their vinyl only releases into one place that would have cost a hundred bucks each to be cargo shipped from Australia, look out for a new lp in 2024 following up the earth shaking Le Demon De L'Amour from 2022
Marshall Crenshaw - the 40th Anniversary deluxe version of his self-titled is a double lp of gold for those of us who don't bother with the usual things
Lolas - Doctor Apache - perfect is a planet-sized understatement for this kind of timeless power pop, all they've done is more than worthy, the title track here is a blissful, endlessly loopable cut of cosmic country brilliance that the grievous angel, Roger McGuinn & the rest of high flying burrito byrds wish they had in their catalog
Have to give a shout out to one of my fav plays & replays of 2023, ShadowStrike - Traveler's Tales (all of their eps/lps can be heard on their yt channel). I'm big on power metal & love how it pulls in from my roots in classic/heavy rock/metal & prog/symphonic. There's so many worlds of genres under this big umbrella, even when the songs are over 30 years old the music still feels fresh, exciting & inspiring, & there's a lot of excellent bands putting out new material now all over the world.

Hello again! Wow, nice extensive list with awesome notes here! I did see that Marshall Crenshaw re-release of his self-titled. That's definitely one of my favorite albums of all time! I have somewhat of an expanded CD edition of it and then an original or early press on vinyl but I was still considering possibly picking up the reissue!
Oh nice, the Lolas. I heard a few tracks many years ago and really liked their sound. I will check out more from them.
I have trouble getting into anything from Teenage Fanclub past their Man-Made album.
And the Field Mice are so underrated! I would love for their catalog to be reissued...I'd take either CD or vinyl, I don't care! I only have copies of their albums and that compilation on burned discs. What a band!
