  • Choosing a WD SSD - Get it Right First Time nascompares.com/2020/04/18/wd...
Solid State Drive (SSD) technology is something that, though once considered out of the reach of the average consumer, is now very, very common. Considerably faster than the much older HDD technology, SSDs are now featured inside almost every commercial technology device that we use today in some large or small form. One of the biggest brands in the world of storage in 2020/2021 is Western Digital and unsurprisingly, they have an impressive selection of SSDs available to buy in their product portfolio. This combined with WD being connected with SanDisk and UltraStar, has resulted in their range of SSDs for sale being incredibly diverse and confusing. So, if you are in the market to buy a new SSD from WD, it can be awfully confusing and you can spend hours trying to narrow down the literal hundreds of SSDs on offer to the right one, losing hours along the way. Never fear, I have taken the time to break down the key product families (WD Blue, Green, Black, Red and Gold) and separated them into what each one is designed for, what each one can do, what it cannot and ultimately help you decide the best SSD for your storage needs. However, before we start, it is worth taking a moment to learn about the key buying factors that affect the performance and suitability of any SSD compared with another.

replace "ECC" with "End to End data protection" (all SSDs have ECC code) only typically enterprise SSDS/HDDs have "End to End data protection" and the RAID or HBA controller also has to support "End to End data protection" to use it

Does a WD green good for just a secondary storage? I'm looking at choosing between WD green NVME 1TB or 2TB HDD and I don't know if there's any difference except the capacity

What do I have from a 5year warranty or longer if the drive brakes and the data is defective 🤔
I need a drive that never brakes and I have allways my data.

If I understand correctly there just is not good cache ssd for normal consumers at this moment? Or is there?

My work station needs an upgrade badly. I work in 3D using programs like ZBrush, Adobe, Substance and Unreal Engine. My hard drive is a 4 year old WD Blue HDD. My PC is older so I don't think M.2 is an option. Which SSD would be a good upgrade? I'm split on Blue or Red but I was looking at the Samsung Evo. I was thinking of going up to 2g too.

That’d be great if you had a similar review with seagate SSD products, tracing comparisons with HgST products and Toshiba , NVMe we’ll see loads of growth in the next 2y

the Write speed of there are low because WD Gold or any Read optimized version enterprise SSDs is due to Guaranteed QOS of below 0.2ms access times @ 99% load (i would expect 99.9% is under 2ms typical) a consumer SSD can produce random high latency or even whole drive can pause under very high Write operations which is why the enterprise have QOS built into them to limit Write speeds to get a consistent IOPS on read and write

Duplicitous marketers. As we progress through SMR-gate, it will come as no surprise to me to find out that the 'leading' manufacturers are making SSDs that actually have 2.5in. spinning disks hidden inside their cases.

WD green SSDs are Dramless SSDs after 40-60% filled they can slow down a bit due to no DRAM on them (overall avoid green, get a Blue or other manufacturer is recommended as there is 3 versions of the WD blue drive all with 3 different performance)
