      I think the equivalent red drive is the red pro. Based on the item numbers- I’m pretty sure Black, Gold and Red Pro are the same physical drives- with the difference being a some portion of the firmware on board. This could be exactly the same even and just down to marketing

    • @altimmons
      @altimmons 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also - what model numbers ?
      Those three I mentioned are WD00zzz-
      Where x=the size in TB
      Y= generation/revision number
      Z=firmware version?
      But WD4000 is very very different in performance than WD4003 for instance.
      I can tellu you that in my experience the Gold is very fast for a hard drive- faster than Red Plus- and much faster than Blue however I do not own a Red Pro or Black to compare. The difference is like 150 mb/s vs 110mb/S vs 90 mb/s

      I have a firecuda. They do not work well at all. I can't play any games on it. I have a private video I can unlist and send to you where I spend 16 minutes loading Dirt 4. IT IS NOT a dud it is as advertised and every program says it's "GOOD',"OKAY","HEALTHY"

    • @lancerdawgpete
      @lancerdawgpete 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@slippingstones I also have a Firecuda that I use for games that I feel don't need to occupy my SSD. On my end, I wouldn't say it's impossible, but I really can't tell too much of a difference that makes me believe that the SSHD is "the best of both worlds"
      Right now, I have been playing Borderlands 3 via the Epic Games Launcher regularly without deviating to another game.
      As it stands, it's about 1 minute and 40 seconds from Epic Launcher to Main Menu screen.
      From main menu to the game from where I left off via "continue"- 17 seconds
      Ran it a 2nd time - from EGS to Menu 1min 31sec. From Menu to save point - 15.5 seconds
      Also, I'd like to see what the 2TB Barracuda with the 256MB cache and 7200rpm spindle speed (ST2000DM008) would fare against the WD Gold. If the performance is close to the Gold, I could see this as a cheaper alternative to the Gold as there are people that probably don't care for Rotational Vibration sensors, stabilized top to bottom servo motor, and other enterprise class features that the price of the Gold calls for.

      I also have a decently old Constellation CS that teeters on the nearline/NAS tightwire and I hardly heard anything from that.

    This is a good comparison shame the WD Black is the 128mb Cache model as its not really a fair comparison... But I found this video trying to find out what HDD would be the fastest for loading times right now (Sept 2020) between the WD Black 6TB - 7200 RPM/ 256 MB Cache, "dual-core processor" (£230), the WD Gold 6tb - 7200 RPM/ 256 MB Cache (£210), and the Barracuda Pro 6tb - 7200 RPM/ 256 MB Cache (£215) as id Like to see if they are as fast as my Velociraptor 1TB - 10,000 RPM/ 64MB Cache (£165) but with much more room and far newer/ in full production... as I'm looking for an upgrade but want to retain the speed. Also, this would be an excellent test as it is a completely fair comparison as they are all in the same price bracket, same storage size, same RPM, and same cache size. :)

    HDD as a main drive became useless 10 years ago a cheap 256 gig SSD is still 40 times faster than a WD gold. SSD/HDD raid configuration 0 > this entire video lol. Get the blue for storage reasons, you get a HDD for storage nothing else.

    • @orangecreeperx6980
      @orangecreeperx6980 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      WD Purple is intended for 24/7 surveillance/video recording. If you put it in a PC and run computer programs (including games) on it, it will be extremely slow. Plus, using it with a PC will cause damage to the drive, and there are many drawbacks to doing this.
