There hasn't been any defender remotely close to his level at United since. One of several key players, characters and leaders that were never replaced from the winning team of the 2012/2013 season.
Tbf it's never easy to replace a player like him. To do so they have to be one of the best in the world and to perform consistently for many years to be in the same bracket as Vidic

He also scored his pen in the shootout in FAcup semi-final where Ferguson didn't play Rooney, Ronaldo, VanDerSar, Fletcher, Carrick or Nani and ManUtd still kept clean sheet vs 5th Everton who had a much stronger team out than the depleted one Chelsea's full strength side went behind in the final to, ManUtd would've won that trophy but for Berbaflop messing it up again like 2010/11 also (and also the ref because ManUtd should've had a pen when Welbeck was fouled by Jagielka who ended up scoring the winning pen but missed final through injury, so he may as well have just been punished for the foul so Vidic wasn't harshly denied the FAcup in his career too, then again Berbatov didn't deserve it, ManUtd should've just not bought Berba, would've won FAcup's and been the first to win 4 PL's in a row, possibly would've won back-to-back CL's as well although that's debatable, the 4 in a row isn't because Tevez stays if ManUtd don't buy Berba and ManUtd needed to keep Tevez more than buy any other forward especially Berbaflop who was useless that 2009/10 season and ManUtd still nearly won it, screwed over by refs again too but when Rooney got injured just needed another striker for 1 game either against Chelsea or Blackburn and Tevez could've been that, instead we had Berba therefore don't get the result we want....plus if ManUtd had Tevez all that season it would've been a comfortable title win and wouldn't have likely needed a result in either of those games near the end but hypothetically if ManUtd are in that same situation like if Tevez had been injured for an amount of games that caused him to have as low a goal tally as Berba had but then Tevez is back but Rooney's injured and ManUtd need a result against Chelsea at home or Blackburn away if ManUtd have Tevez we win if we have Berba we fail).

Vastly underrated CB, and as he said it, either ball doesnt pass through him or the attacker, better some of that 2 than receive a goal.
I guess that's why he got player of the season award 2 times. One of 4 players that did it, the only defender.
