    I still walk in a pair of Scarpa leather boots which were purchased in 1977! They have been re-soled three times with Vibram soles and are still as comfortable and sturdy as the day they were bought. How times change!

I’ve only ever taken boots or walking shoes back twice : once for little gaps between upper and sole (on leather boots but nowhere near as bad as yours, and one when I wore expensive unusual design shoes that were too narrow for comfort). I've had a few problems with recent Scarpa boots like stitching blowing out but like any brand it can just be down to a manufacturing fault. In your case it could be down to a volume issue with having to much space between the top side of your foot and the where the top of the of the boots toe box is. Eitherway this should not happen so I would suggest taking them back to Trekkit and I'm sure they will help you get a replacement pair. I for one have been put off buying another pair of lightweight Scarpas from my experiences with them. Check out Hanwag, my Hanwag boots are still going strong after many years of serious hiking. That's disappointing isn't it. Usually you associate a brand like that with quality. Sometimes I've found that cheaper brands are still quite good. I bought a pair of Regatta Bainsford hiking boots for £50 and I've done quite a lot of walking in them and they're fine. I just walked up and down Skiddaw in the lake District in them today in fact and they were comfortable and performed well. The old saying is that you get what you pay for and i guess that by and large that's true but perhaps not 100% of the time though when it comes to hiking gear as your experience with your new boots demonstrates.

      Hey, there mate. Yeah, no good on this occasion. You're right about the cheaper brands - it's just having the confidence to spend that much even if you get my meaning. Good to hear of the Regatta Bainsford - a gamble do you think? Well, many thanks. All the best. Mark

      @@WyeExplorer In terms of Regatta I've always found their gear to be well made really. I've had a couple of packaway regatta rucksacks that I bought in Winfield's in Keswick and I've had them for years. I've loaded them up with lots of gear and the stitching has never come apart and the straps are still sound. I've got regatta coats that have performed well too. They aren't trendy like High end brands but I've found their gear to be decent and reliable.

    sorry to see that Mark... That's a shock. Is it inferior quality glue or not left to dry for long enough do you think ?? It's strange that. Not nice for you to have another pair that aren't working properly.. maybe it's good they went after one day rather than six months as you could have had to argue about it to get a refund maybe. ? They probably know you in the shop though.

    • @WyeExplorer
      @WyeExplorer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, who knows Dave. It could be the glue but I reckon it was fast production. For sure a tad worrying to have another pair go so quick. Are there any fail safe brands out there? Re-the refund it was good it wasn't 6 months down the line. It's just as well the boots I purchased after have a 2 year warranty - that's right 2 years. Tune in next week. Yes, I am known there. Thanks Dave. All the best. Mark

    • @davidkeel
      @davidkeel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      . Yeah it could be the fast production of these shoes like you say Mark. You see it on the TV with the mass production of them .. someone is speed spreading the glue on ... There's always the Salomon Quest 4 GTX boot. I think that may be the name of them.. But I'm not sure what the weight is ? I had the Quest 3 GTX. didn't use them much though. I wanted a more lightweight trail shoe. But my feet got soaked with the lightweight trail shoes. The Contragrip sole of the Salomon was the best I ever used... much better than Vibram sole as I didn't seem to slip. You also have the Forces version of the boot. used for army and forces worldwide.. That is called the 'Salomon Quest 4D Forces'.. boot

    My god that is appalling Mark, one day’s use, what would have happened if you were setting off on a long multi day hike and it’s peeing down, your feet would be soaked in minutes. I hear this a lot from so many walkers regarding various boot manufacturers, it’s basically down to mass production and no real testing. Profit over quality. Guess you’re going to try a different brand now, can’t keep going back and forth to Trekitt. I have used Trekitt online and can’t say a bad word about them, decent prices and fast delivery. When they explode on the sides it's the wrong size boot . In my opinion.
    I changed from a 9 to a 10 over the past four years.
    The muscles in my feet are so much bigger these days than a few years ago . Plus as I walk , my muscles get pumped in my feet . So in the shop I don't trust the size measurement . My feet expand when I'm hiking.

      I learned that although a shoe can be well recommended it may not exactly suit your foot style.
      I was quite happy in those lowa's but they were too skinny in the long term.
      I love the room to maneuver now in the larger sizes.. have not looked back,
      One thing i did learn about shoe fitting was to take the insole out, place it on the ground and place my foot on the insole, if I'm edging over the insole at all with my feet flat, that isn't the right shoe. the insole must match my foot profile.
