He promptly opened the door for light and fresh air, pulled a $10 bill from his money clip and sent it to the same place. His Mrs. saw the conclusion of the ten spot toss and gave him "what for!" He replied, as he rolled up his sleeves "you sure don't think I'm gonna go fishing around in there for only 50 cents, do you?!"

Later that day when we were having our mid-day MRE, our Staff Sergeant ask if anyone had a knife (I think you can see where I’m going with this). Well, it was THAT marine who offered him his K-Bar and I asked “was that the knife you dropped in the sh&*#er? Haha 🤣 the tongue lashing he received from the SSGT burned the bark off of every tree in the vicinity. I think those trees are still smoking to this day!! Lol

The SSGT had them standing at attention, and a marine swatted a mosquito - The Sergeant was on him and in his face in a heart beat, blistering the air. This was back around Vietnam days so the Sergeants could get pretty aggressive I have heard.... Anyway the Sergeant was yelling at this kid that the mosquito was on USMC property, so he had killed a Marine mosquito! - Anyway they had to fall out, hump back to barracks change into a new uniform, hump back to the beach, find the dead mosquito and bury it with honors.... Ricky wasn't one to make things up.
That story I first heard in the movie "The D.I." with Jack Webb(who I beleive was a D.I.) except it was a sand flea. "You will find that exact same sand flea and you will bury it!"
Actually not cool, but butt freezing cold, hotter than hobs, smel't worse than Santee's feet, and shared with skeeters, spiders, hornets, and... more spiders. :-)
Santee does foot care every night before he goes to sleep. Using a steel precision file set and a belt sander to get rid of calluses and corns. Followed by foot soak in Epson salt, rose water with potpourri for 10-15 minutes. After drying his feet he finishes off with some shea butter.
That brought back memories. When I was in the Army. A troop dropped his M16 down the hole of the out house. The drill Sgt made him get it and well clean it. That’s the poop on my true story.

It was said he made really good money at it before central plumbing became popular. A thing to note about outhouses was figuring out where to place them. Not only did you want them away from (and down stream from) your water source, but you wanted it far enough from the house that the summer winds wouldn't bring in the _hot summer fragrance_ into the home on those hot days when all the house windows were open, but also not so far away as to make it difficult to use in inclement weather. One thing that almost everyone did was stack their firewood between the house and the outhouse. That way whenever anyone went out to conduct their business they would also bring a small armful of wood, just a few sticks would do, back in with them to feed the fire, in that way the firewood in the house never ran down and no one person was stuck always bringing in wood for the fire. And that meant _everyone_ no matter didn't matter if you were a bank president or a three year old child, if you used the facility you brought back a few sticks. My grandfather used to claim going to the outhouse and NOT bringing back a few sticks was nearly a whoopin' offense, and folks would be shamed into going back out to get those few sticks. They used to call bringing the wood back from going to the bathroom _paying the toll._ They often referred to the outhouse building as _The Toll-house._ Makes you think twice about those cookies, huh?

They had to halt building the bond fire at Texas A&M one year, because some old lady recognized her outhouse resting on top. Outhouses were the favorite haunts of dirt daubers and black widow spiders. You had to be careful, even in there. I once knew a man, who as a boy, convinced a friend to stand in an outhouse and fire a shotgun down the outhouse hole. Forget the later accomplishments of Wernher van Braun. That outhouse flew.
I am 83 and lived in a few places with outhouses. Also some tarpaper homes. Yeah, we were poor. I remember when the fire went out at nights, laundry hanged in the house was frozen solid.

in some places historic building foundations were found thanks to the placement of outhouses…35 years ago an unintentional time capsule was found thanks to the privy of one of the buildings burned due to the Battle of Bunker Hill was unearthed during the huge Boston tunnel project. it had artifacts dating to the founding of the colony 😎

We have one in our garden in Germany. I' ve read about a man in Oregon. Everytime his outhouse is full, he removes it some yards away over new digged hole and plants an appletree into the old one. Now he has a nice applegarden.

During the phase 3 FTX part of basic training, somebody threw a can of bug spray down the port a potty. No one would admit to it so the drill sergeants made us line up and one by one, pull it out then put it back in. Fortunatly, somebody fessed up before it got to be my turn.
My friend made the mistake of storing his deer feed in his two holer. He left the door unlocked and and one night encountered a bear coming out, when he was entering at 3:00am. He forgot why he was there and so did the bear! 🤣
You got to soak the corncobs till they swell then dry them so they get kinda spongy. Keep your white cobs separate, you use a couple red cobs then check to see if your done with a white one.
A friend of mine told me one day that when he was a kid growing up in rural Arkansas they didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing in his house till he as a Sr in High School, he was born in 1944, so they didn't get electricity or indoor plumbing till about 1961 or 1962. I'm sure glad I didn't have to put up with that.

we had outhouse until I was 13 y.o. married @ 19 y.o. and in-laws still had outhouse. co-worker family had outhouse until 2007. but I never seen actual two-story outhouse until this vid. now I feel sadly, down in the dumps!
My great aunt and uncle used an outhouse up until the mid '90s when they both died, the only indoor plumbing they had was a single pipe running from the well to a kitchen sink faucet.
A friend of mine had an outhouse just 10 years or so ago. Was at a part time business. One summer the flies and bugs were terrible, and someone told him to put some used motor oil in to control them. He did. One day a squirrel fell in. The outhouse had oil and pooh everywhere. He apparrently was slick after falling in and went berserk when he finally got out of the pit and into the outhouse. Maybe he couldn't see?
I had an Uncle who was a farmer who had an outhouse and huge well at his farm. He refused to put modern conveniences but keep his home as it was when he first move into the area. I don't know which scared me more falling into the hole of the outhouse or falling into a well so big that if the well was horizontal you could drive a bus through it like a tunnel.

I went to a one room school and it had one outhouse for boys and one for girls.the outhouses were about 50 yards from the school so you had to run like hell when it rained

In Medieval Europe the outhouses in castles were called garderobes and emptied into the moat . The English during their many wars with the French built a supposedly inacessable castle in France . During a siege a common soldier with the nickname "Snubnose" climbed up the castle"s pooper chute and opened the gate , allowing the French army to enter and capture the castle . For his feat he was awarded a retirement pension equal to that of a Knight . I reckon the English should have done their business in chamber pots then dumped them into the moat instead .

The skit with the quarter rings true for me. Old West outhouses and Army field latrines are fairly similar in both design and function. After a field exercise I was put on police detail to clean the area up and it was discovered that some blue falcon had tossed a bunch of live ammunition into one of the latrines and we had to fish every round out of there. Oh yeah, it had been around -20 below for the entire time so all of the "class I download" was frozen solid. Good times . . .

During the phase 3 FTX part of basic training, somebody threw a can of bug spray down the port a potty. No one would admit to it so the drill sergeants made us line up and one by one, pull it out then put it back in. Fortunatly, somebody fessed up before it got to be my turn.

My friend made the mistake of storing his deer feed in his two holer. He left the door unlocked and and one night encountered a bear coming out, when he was entering at 3:00am. He forgot why he was there and so did the bear! 🤣

You got to soak the corncobs till they swell then dry them so they get kinda spongy. Keep your white cobs separate, you use a couple red cobs then check to see if your done with a white one.

My father growing up in Oklahoma remembers using outhouses at his grandparents home as late as the 1950's.
A friend of mine told me one day that when he was a kid growing up in rural Arkansas they didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing in his house till he as a Sr in High School, he was born in 1944, so they didn't get electricity or indoor plumbing till about 1961 or 1962. I'm sure glad I didn't have to put up with that.

Ash from the woodstove or fireplace works good on scent control also. Fresh shucked corncobs are the best. Remember don't use the glossy catalogs, they smear.

we had outhouse until I was 13 y.o. married @ 19 y.o. and in-laws still had outhouse. co-worker family had outhouse until 2007. but I never seen actual two-story outhouse until this vid. now I feel sadly, down in the dumps!
Outhouses are still a daily item on the reservation, still use them when i need them

My great aunt and uncle used an outhouse up until the mid '90s when they both died, the only indoor plumbing they had was a single pipe running from the well to a kitchen sink faucet.

A friend of mine had an outhouse just 10 years or so ago. Was at a part time business. One summer the flies and bugs were terrible, and someone told him to put some used motor oil in to control them. He did. One day a squirrel fell in. The outhouse had oil and pooh everywhere. He apparrently was slick after falling in and went berserk when he finally got out of the pit and into the outhouse. Maybe he couldn't see?

I had an Uncle who was a farmer who had an outhouse and huge well at his farm. He refused to put modern conveniences but keep his home as it was when he first move into the area. I don't know which scared me more falling into the hole of the outhouse or falling into a well so big that if the well was horizontal you could drive a bus through it like a tunnel.
This popped up in my recommendations as I was sitting down on my....outhouse, haha. God is good

I went to a one room school and it had one outhouse for boys and one for girls.the outhouses were about 50 yards from the school so you had to run like hell when it rained

We had a 2 seater on my aunts' farm in Wva
In Medieval Europe the outhouses in castles were called garderobes and emptied into the moat . The English during their many wars with the French built a supposedly inacessable castle in France . During a siege a common soldier with the nickname "Snubnose" climbed up the castle"s pooper chute and opened the gate , allowing the French army to enter and capture the castle . For his feat he was awarded a retirement pension equal to that of a Knight . I reckon the English should have done their business in chamber pots then dumped them into the moat instead .

Any time to you movie to an old house from the time period dig up the far corners of the yards. I used to live in a frointeer town founded in 1852, that's where the privy would be.

The skit with the quarter rings true for me. Old West outhouses and Army field latrines are fairly similar in both design and function. After a field exercise I was put on police detail to clean the area up and it was discovered that some blue falcon had tossed a bunch of live ammunition into one of the latrines and we had to fish every round out of there. Oh yeah, it had been around -20 below for the entire time so all of the "class I download" was frozen solid. Good times . . .
