    My grandmother's remedy was to simmer a large onion in enough water to cover it. Pour the water into a bowl and add a half cup of honey and the juice of a lemon. Drink some, bury yourself in a mountain of blankets and roast it out. Always better in the morning.

    We made a ferment - first with only garlic and honey, the second time with honey, garlic and onion - and let it set for a few weeks before we needed to use either of them. Both were/are shelf-stable. Both versions helped in healing over this past winter with coughs, stomach bugs and respiratory issues. I am grateful to both Heidi from Raincountry and Off-grid with Doug and Stacy for showing us this very thing! Thank you also for sharing the health benefits of God 's goodness. I am also grateful for the many adventures you share with us.

    Thanks for sharing. The honey fermented garlic seems to keep me going year round. Minimal colds in the winter and less springtime allergies. My wife can't stand it... she (and her side of the family) had a lingering cough that lasted months. I'll share this with the family. Seems like a few ingredients shy of fire cider. That's a health charged winner also. Thanks for your content, God bless.

    Thank you 👍. We in Australia are in our 1st month of 3 months of Autumn /fall. It's going to be a warmer winter predicted by our BOM Bureau of Meteorology. I have had an upper respiratory cough now for a few weeks. Your cough mixture is very welcomed 👍. Thank you and Blessings to you and family ❄🌷. Keep safe.

    You shouldn’t have to keep it refrigerated because the honey is a preservative. We don’t keep ours in the fridge.

    Some years ago I lived in Dominica (West Indies) and the Rasta's used to make and sell a wonderful tonic. I have never been able to find out how to make it, but I loved the taste of Garlic and Onion which dominated the aroma. I would imagine there was a fair amount of honey used, but other than that i am lost . It would be great if anyone had the recipe so this incredible tonic can be shared. It did not have ayny heat to the flavour and was sold as a general tonic.

    Your video had me pondering, which I love :-) I was thinking of a efficiency to add to your list, which is to make everything taste good (according to a flavor profile that your family likes)… So that if you had to survive on one weird root or meat, you could make it one million ways and have your family enjoy it… getting really good at learning how to make tough things tender and/or what cooking methods work best for what types of materials…so valuable!

    I make an old Native American flu syrup also. We have many sweet gum trees so we collect the sweet gum balls, break them open and remove the seeds. We crush the seeds and then bake them in the sun.

    We are thankful for you and sharing your knowledge. We live in deep East Texas and you are a great help.
    Question, if you please - are you aware of any seed libraries or ways to get free seeds that grow well in our area?
    Many thanks!

      You're welcome. Glad these videos are helpful. The only seed bank that I am aware of is at Bob Wells Nursery at Sorelle Farms in Mineola.

    I always enjoy your content. Thank you so much for this recipe. I have one question. Do you stir it at any time? Thank you

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're welcome.
      You don't have to stir after the first two days. The onion juice will thin out the honey until it is very watery.

    I do a similar syrup - we use the honey and onion but do ginger and thyme. Supposedly thyme is good for coughs. I am trying to grow elecampagne to combat junky cough. God bless you and stay well!

    When you say "a teaspoon at a time" is it only the liquid or with everything? 🤔. And how often? Oh and how long will it last in the fridge?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just the liquid....as often as you need. More coughing, more liquid. Should last a month.

    Is there any difference between using red or white onions?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not really, unless you are going to eat them. The red onions are sweeter.

    Great video! I have done it slightly differently (added turmeric), but used this method, and onions in the socks, for decades. Honestly, it has always been very successful. This is a great video and I really hope that it helps a lot of families. Most people have looked at me like I was crazy and then came back later to say that they had tried it, in desperation, and it works 😁♾💎✨🫶.
