@@CountryLivingExperience - Can you / your installer explain more about why these peanuts are not vulnerable? I imagine them squishing together, softened by water and compacted by weight.
@@JonathonNeville They are not your normal peanuts. They are a high density closed cell foam. They won't be softened by water at all. As for compaction, I am sure there will be some but gravel also settles and "compacts".
Some foam has more than a 60 psi rating and is used for structural work. In some applications, they actually put slab, footing, and build an entire house on top of structural foam. They even build highways on top of layers of structural foam because it has higher compression strength than gravel and soil. This particular system and brand uses this triple “pipe”. Other brands use a single pipe. This one is better because you will get more capacity if your soil percolates slower.
I didn't buy it online. I bought it from a local septic supply company. You need to check the codes in your area....they could be different. The peanuts in these septic pipes are a different material than the french drain.
It is a closed system. They are designed not to flood because it is set in soil that will drain. It will not flow back into the tank (where the poop is) unless it is completely submerged in a pond.
could you give us some different names that big box stores may carry , as we are in Canada and having a hard time finding them to purchase without a contractor?
We really only have Lowes and Home Depot here and both of them do not carry it. You have to go through a septic supply house. That is where I got mine. I told them I was working with a contractor, which was the truth, and they let me buy it.

There are various manufacturers that give them different names. You can’t find them at big box stores though. Have to get them at a septic supply. Use or rent a transom laser level for the trench. No rock was used at all.
What was the fabric made of? was it plastic, was it woven, was it like a tyvek type? Even though you don’t know the name or brand of the covering fabric, maybe you could describe?
are there any DIY aerobic systems? they seem much easier to install because the leech field is smaller. I can't belive they force you to sign a yearly contact. Why not just not pay for it? what can they do?
I have a baco and other equipment. I'ma farmer. Do you remember how much the d box 90s and maybe two 20ft sections of peanut pipes was. I'm in East NC. I own 26 more open aces behind my house. Only when I wash clothes the field overflows
It was about $1100 for all the materials years ago. 150ft of the peanut pipes, the d box, some elbows, and fabric cover. I live in Texas though. Not sure how different prices would be in NC.
Thank you. I don't remember the exact name of this product. I did find one similar called EZflow. Here is the website: www.infiltratorwater.com/products/ezflow-septic-system/. If I can find out for you I will leave another comment.
This may be slightly off topic, but...I have raised beds over my leach field. Is this a major health hazard assuming that I have a system that is less than 4 years old?
The idea of a leach field is that the effluent is "treated" enough when it comes out of the leach lines. "They" wouldn't allow them if it was toxic. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you are worried about it, do not plant deep rooted veg/fruit like tomatoes.
thousand dollars you paid a friend for 6 hours of work? I wanna be your friend lol. I wouldn't ever charge my friends something like that for HVAC work(my trade) but everyone is different I guess. good video though.
Thank you. Actually a friend of a friend. It was way cheaper than all the other options. I am an Architect and always give friends deep discounts. I was out of options on the septic deal.
It has worked flawlessly. No issues at all. I got the styrofoam peanut system at a local septic supply house. They asked if I was a contractor and I told them no but my contractor told me to come buy the materials.
Depends. It well taken care of in an area with good soil, I have heard of conventional systems lasting 50 years. These styrofoam ones have not been around that long but they should last for quite a long time if properly maintained.
Most places are going to require a formal percolation test and a leach field plan submitted to the AHJ to be approved and inspected so you dont contaminate the watershed. The perc test alone is not cheap. Maybe you can get away with this in your county in TX, but many throughout the rest of the country cannot. I'm not sure how realistic this video is. Annnd OP hides any replies from here on out. I see how you roll.

Here, just to come out and inspect the system was $ 3,000.00 4 years ago. That was with a $1000 discount after the wildfires.
That is crazy.
What type fabric you put over ez flow pipes
It was recommended to me by the septic supply store. Not sure what brand it is. Sorry.
What was the fabric made of? was it plastic, was it woven, was it like a tyvek type? Even though you don’t know the name or brand of the covering fabric, maybe you could describe?
@@carriestrong591 It was a standard, below grade, spun (not woven) polyester filter fabric. Easily obtained from many outlets.
What tool did you use for checking the grade of the trenches? 10:00
That is a laser transit level. Like this one...amzn.to/3o4g18w
@@CountryLivingExperience Thank you for the quick response as well as your helpful video.
Where did you buy the drain tail?
There is a local septic supply company. As you saw in the video, the drain lines must remain relatively flat.
Thank you!
Who fixes thoose is it a plumbing company?
@@martrome7449 If you do not do it yourself, you need to call a septic company.
Actually using an aero-stream system would have made it an aerobic system for less but it might not have fixed the drainage.
Yep. The lines were totally blocked
are there any DIY aerobic systems? they seem much easier to install because the leech field is smaller. I can't belive they force you to sign a yearly contact. Why not just not pay for it? what can they do?
They require power and I didn't want the hassle of moving parts. Passive systems are good for me.
I have a baco and other equipment. I'ma farmer. Do you remember how much the d box 90s and maybe two 20ft sections of peanut pipes was. I'm in East NC. I own 26 more open aces behind my house. Only when I wash clothes the field overflows
Not a separate drain pipe on my washer it goes through my Septic. I wanna change that as well
It was about $1100 for all the materials years ago. 150ft of the peanut pipes, the d box, some elbows, and fabric cover. I live in Texas though. Not sure how different prices would be in NC.
@@CountryLivingExperience ok thanks 👍.
can u put gravel instead of dirt?
Yes, some. But then you will still have to cover it with soil if it is in your yard.
@@CountryLivingExperience thanks so much for answering.
@@CountryLivingExperience can u do drain leach for washer only? and how deep and wide can leach field should be ??
Good job getting that fixed! What is the name of that drain line product?
Thank you. I don't remember the exact name of this product. I did find one similar called EZflow. Here is the website: www.infiltratorwater.com/products/ezflow-septic-system/. If I can find out for you I will leave another comment.
That works, thank you!
This may be slightly off topic, but...I have raised beds over my leach field. Is this a major health hazard assuming that I have a system that is less than 4 years old?
vegetables
The idea of a leach field is that the effluent is "treated" enough when it comes out of the leach lines. "They" wouldn't allow them if it was toxic. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you are worried about it, do not plant deep rooted veg/fruit like tomatoes.
@@CountryLivingExperience Thanks for your reply and all that you do!
thousand dollars you paid a friend for 6 hours of work? I wanna be your friend lol. I wouldn't ever charge my friends something like that for HVAC work(my trade) but everyone is different I guess. good video though.
Thank you. Actually a friend of a friend. It was way cheaper than all the other options. I am an Architect and always give friends deep discounts. I was out of options on the septic deal.
I had to get a new drain field because the first one was poorly made and they put a big hill and now it's there and makes my yard super ugly
Sorry to hear that.
The cost of replacing these vital systems are ridiculous then they wonder why people prefer sewer systems everywhere.
could you use "socks" around the pipes????
Instead of the fabric?
DUUUUDDE!
THAT YOU, RYAN EGGOLD???
You know it.
So it's been a while, have you had any further issues with this system 🤔? Also. Where did you buy these peanut Styrofoam system?
It has worked flawlessly. No issues at all. I got the styrofoam peanut system at a local septic supply house. They asked if I was a contractor and I told them no but my contractor told me to come buy the materials.
@@CountryLivingExperience awesome thank you
Where are you locates?
huge system.. apt complex ? looks like overkill. tanks are usually bulletproof
No. This isn't overkill at all. It is only oversized by 20% for our 3 bed 2 bath house.
is this still holding up good?
Still working perfectly
Why did you decide to go with styrofoam instead of gravel?
Way less expensive in my area.
How long normally does these fields last🤔
Depends. It well taken care of in an area with good soil, I have heard of conventional systems lasting 50 years. These styrofoam ones have not been around that long but they should last for quite a long time if properly maintained.
My house has this system in now and it’s beginning to fail. It was built in 1985 and I assume it’s original
So why are you watching this video?
It is realistic enough to have 75k views and numerous comments of praise saying "thank you for helping me with this knowledge".
@@CountryLivingExperience I'm in the industry and was curious what people publicly post. Eric, did you receive a formal waiver from Smith County to do what you did? I'd be surprised if you met the 10 acre exemption threshold. I get it if you don't want anyone telling you what to do with your land, but I'm just saying that this video is probably misleading for a lot of people who wouldn't have the luxury of doing whatever.
@@mikedyer6004 oh come on man! Quit being such a damn square! Quit being a mindless robot and think outside the box a little bit it would be good for you honestly. It's our land! And we should be able to do whatever the hell we want on our land and there are not City officials or county officials driving by watching 24 hours a day to make sure you're up to no good
Here in Washington state anything having to do with septic needs permits and everything gets reported to the health dept.
It's silly how strict people are about reporting things to their masters haha. I could understand if you have evil neighbors close by who like to call the cops but otherwise the only thing you gain by reporting yourself to the authorities is additional costs.
You didn't get it inspected?
Why?
Don't call anyone just fix it
I have to know if its not to much to ask. But what state are you in? I just got a price quote for something like this here in NC and on the low it quoted me $15,000.
We are in Texas. Prices vary wildly from state to state and area to area.
Turn on the CC. Say what?
First time i've seen anyone use peanut type piping for a leech field.
Very common now. Especially here.
There is so much you do not know about installing a septic system .You are right in some places there are rules to install because you can pollute the water supply for your home and or other people.Telling people you can do this is not the thing to do .
Throwing stones without offering any specifics. Typical.
Seems like a lot of drainfield for such a small septic system.
I put in extra line.
Sorry sir, your septic did not pass inspection. You cannot sell/close at this time. Here's contact info, a few guys(buddies of mine) will take care of you for around $30,000.
lol
@@williamrobinson6680 man that happened to me. I didn’t didn’t even have anything wrong with my septic system but the buyer wanted it inspected as a condition of sale. The septic company comes out there, says the can’t find the access cap and then starts digging. Somehow by the end of the afternoon I ended up getting charged $3000 to install an new top slab with a new access hatch. The septic company screws you over because it’s two weeks before closing and you just have to bite the bullet. They know your not going to contest payment and potentially get a lien put on your home to mess up those whole sale. They really have you over a barrel.
You don't need permits to work on your own property.
In many states you do. You also don’t own your property. You rent it from the government.
My brother lost his house over that pump system
How?
@CountryLivingExperience he couldn't afford to pay for the pump system so they took his house

Can you build a new system with this product
Yes, Absolutely. Great for new systems. That is essentially what we did.

Compost toilets are better cheaper and cleaner. I'm so sick of $ gouging City crap especially when property is in the Country and the land has already been sh*tted up back when settlers were living on the same lands. Plus the leach lines kill trees, vegetation and you lose all of your land to use for growing food. It doesn't make sense . People throw diapers and doggie crap bags kitty crap in the trash everyday and they worry about Compost toilets? smh
In CA this is about 20-30k… pathetic state.
That is insane. Hope you can get out of there.
where in CA? i live in CA and we do leech lines for 7500 to 10000 and full replacement for around 12000

I have seen these used in french drains but never in septic fields.
You must have to be careful about driving anything on top of them.
They have more dense foam than the french drain types. Yes, you still need to be very careful to not drive anything heavy on top of them.
@@CountryLivingExperience When you were back filling at 11:05 I was bighting my pencil. It looked to me like the earth would easily crush / compress the styro and pipe within.
@@symcardnel1741 I have not had any issues with it so far. When he was backfilling the trenches I was cringing a bit too.
Aerobic Systems:
1.) The pumps are constantly going out.💲💲💲
2.) the State of Texas will allow the homeowner to jump through some hoops and monitor the system yourself. ✔️
3.) This systems require the addition of costly chlorine tablets. Many(most?) people abandon that practice due to cost, and just go au natural, baby!💩
Won't the foam slowly depress down with all that dirt packed on top??? I mean this can't last nearly as long as say pvc and gravel or sand
I haven't had any issues. I would look to the manufacturer for longevity details.

I just know over time those peanuts gotta soak with water mabye get soggy or just sheer weight.

This video is what you do not use in a leach field
That stuff is junk
How so?
Nooooooooo. Use gravel less chambers not that bullhonky. You have a better system with less garbage
does toilet paper go into this?
No. Your toilet paper should stay and break down in the concrete tank.
These are junk. Why not use drainage stone and pvc It will last longer

That particular system that you put in is garbage from experience of 25 years that stuff is really made for a downspout on the house not for a drainfield although I know they let you use it for drainfield last about four years that’s it I’ve dug up many of them
I appreciate the warning. That was all I could afford at the time.
No gravel. Fail

That was 1/3 the going rate here.
