Your voiceover and occasional music clips make your great trip reports even better. Keep it up ! Also the location captions add some real class too. Truly fantastic scenic ride, I enjoyed. My favourite journey is through the Alps from Lyon to Turin, but this ride is just as good.
Notice that the Douro Line starts in Ermesinde at it's kilometre 0 besides of Infraestruturas considered to count form Campanhã due to technical questions like to know how much a help train can go to a any point of Douro or Minho line to help the train with problems. Also that 7:25 am train is my favourite too but I always board on it in Penafiel at 8:00 am
I like your voice, but could do with subtitles as well (I'm a bit deaf!). Most scenic route I've ever been on - hmm, difficult. Maybe the Highland Line to Aviemore and Inverness. Maybe the line in Northern Ireland between Ballymena and Derry (it goes right along the sea). Although the mid-Sussex line is hard to beat, especially in spring and summer..... Maybe - oh, so many stunning railway journeys, I can't choose!
I love the voiceover!! I’m a new subscriber and going through many of your previous videos! You have a clear and authoritative voice that makes it easy for native and also non native English speakers to understand. I’m an English teacher and have one or two students who love trains so I’m tempted to use one of your reviews as awesome homework 😉 I’ve subscribed and liked and look forward to even more great content!! 🙌
This is amazing. I was truly waiting for this opportunity to come and I am so happy it came. Great voice by the way 😊 Please keep posting videos like this. 😊🙂
Nice to see the "Portuguese Class 20s" still going (even if they don't sound much like a Class 20 at idle, as it's effectively half a Class 50 engine). You can certainly hear the similarity when it throttles up though
5:25 “I don’t understand these powerless soap dispensers. They don’t seem to work.” I offer three suggestions: 1) Like the rolling stock you noted, these dispensers are very old so was state-of-the-art back in the day. 2) No chance to steal a bar of soap, and 3) Probably more hygienic/less disgusting than a used bar of soap. How many do you think rinse off a soap bar after using it? Cheers. 👍🏻
In Pocinho there's a lot to see, like the old railway workers neighborhood and their abandoned houses, walk on Sabor's Railway line, walk on Douro's Railway line, apreciate the views, specially near to the Pocinho's church.
I have travelled this route once in 2018 just for the love of the scenery and I thought it was amazing. And fron what I can say is that ypur VoiceOvers have really improved in the last year. Great job 🎉
It's sad to see 4 metre gauge lines closed. But what it's more sad (and surprising at the same time) is that they were closed down relatively at recent dates.
@@wavesnbikes I think they could, but if the landscape is not "astonishing" no one would invest in this line. On the other hand, here in Mediterranean Countries the love for trains is not as high as other countries such as England or Germany, so yeah maybe they would restore 1 line or so, but probably they wouldn't do anything at all
Great footage of what looks like a must-do line this and nice to hear the voiceover too. I must admit I wasn’t expecting to see a picture of two class 20’s on platform 3 at Shrewsbury station in this video!
loving the voiceover addition!! having followed your channel for a while it's great to hear the voice behind the camera! hope you do more videos in this style 😊
First did the whole route from Fuentes d' St Esteban ( Spain) to Barca d'Alva, Pocinho to Porto in September 1965. Steam throughout ! Did all the metre-gauge lines as well. Revisited northern Portugal every other year to 1973. Very different times ,trains well used, even the narrow-gauge. Keep going, you'll have your own memories to look back on.
Definitely a thumbs up 👍🏻 from me for the voiceover, the narration was very clear and made it much easier to enjoy the video without reading the script ourselves! Looking forward to your narration on one of your Eastern European trips and hearing how well you pronounce the names 😆 (not that I would have a clue whether they were right or not!)
the most scenic route ive been on was onboard EC 164 from Graz to Zürich back in 2018. a full tour through austria and switzerland fully through the alps, definetly worth checking out
Favorite rail trip in North America … Rocky Mountaineer in Gold Leaf class from Vancouver, British Columbia to Canadian Rockies. Verrrry comfortable coaches, terrific food (included in price) overnight in Kamloops, B.C. (included) , friendly and warm service by train attendants and OUTSTANDING SCENERY!
Nice video! Most scenic train routes I've been on have to be: Mandalay to Hsipaw in Myanmar Morning train from Sarajevo to Mostar Glacier Express from Zermatt to St Moritz.
Great video. 👍I travelled on this line in 2008 so this brought back some great memories. I also got to see steam on the line, which I think runs tourist trains between June and October. Now that you’ve mastered the voiceover, your next challenge is a piece to camera. 😎😜
Amazing that Portugal keeps so many routes operating - the before shut down section from Covilha to Guarda oft the so called circle line has even been reopened recently // Most scenic route? Hellpass, Hue / Viet Nam //
Like going back in time but not to Britain. more like Eastern Europe of the 60s. Not that they had such luxurious seats! A wonderful train ride, many thanks.
Great video and love the voiceover and music interludes. More complete than subtitles. You're able to concentrate better on the video content. Keep it up.
Great to see audio commentary included into your videos! First time I’ve ever heard your voice! Out of interest, what is favourite commuter train in the U.K.? Mine is the class 321
Be a nice idea for someone to do to set up a camera on a tripod looking out of the back of the rear carriage and filming a complete reverse driver's eye view of the whole run
Classic traction, proper full-drop windows, and some awesome scenery - all the things that used to make rail travel a pleasure. (If you overlook the Cult of the Mask, which seems to have extended even to the remotest corners of the network.) Who cares if the "new trains are faster" when you have seats like bags of cement, double glazed and tinted windows that seal you off from the outside world, noisy air conditioning, and of course endless nannying auto-announcements.
Love your vids but I'm not really a fan of voiceovers. Having said that yours is pretty good Superalb as you don't come across as condescending like the awful Paul Lucas (I really don't know what possesses him to think he is good at presenting video content!) Love the sound of the CP Class 1400. As you said the commonality with the BR Class 20 is there to be heard with the unmistakable sound of the EE 8CSVT diesel engine. I have been lucky enough to have lived in Scotland and New Zealand which has enabled me to travel on three of the worlds most scenic railways... Glasgow-Fort William-Mallaig, Inverness-Kyle of Lochalsh and the Christchurch to Greymouth TranzAlpine.
Sorry but I am not a fan of voice overs. I find it to much of a distraction from the filming. Although fo journeys like this I am prepared to view it with the sound muted.
I clicked as this destination is on my bucket list go find your commentary talks about the 'Dow-ro' Valley rather than the correct pronounciation of Douro ='Doo-ro'. Otherwise interesting
Happy to finally hear your voice in a video! The subtitles were always nice but having you talk definitely makes it feel more complete.
Thank you, I agree, more of this coming later on!
Much prefer the voice over to the subtitles. Thank you for giving it a go!
Thank you, I will bear this in mind. 😊

There are subtitles. Press the small white rectangle with 2 black "C"s at the bottom right corner.
Apologies, I plan to add closed captions, but didn't have the time for this one. I will try for future videos. 😊
@@telemachus53 the 2 black C's don't always work and are usually full of spelling mistakes.

They sound like Alcos
The line start from Livração to Arco de Baúlhe, don't have any more tracks... Has converted from Amarante till Arco, in eco-track... Sadly...
Such a shame, I bet the lines were great fun!
This is great! The addition of the voiceover really completes it, more please! Nice to put a voice to the channel! Superb work!
Thanks Mark, will do!

Interesting toilet locking mechanism, looks rather like a control handle from an early 20th century tram
Amtrak from NYC to Montreal! Great views of the Adirondacks along the way! Although, still not nearly as beautiful as this trip seemed to be.
I'll make a note to try it!

Your video and audio style just reminds me the 'nat Geo' channel which I used to watch often in early age. Nice work done.

Great video. i did this line just before covid hit, but had to do it on a unit. would have loved to have ridden with a 1400, they sound great.
Seems like you need to go back then! 😃😉
I think the voiceover is a really good idea. More interesting and detailed
Also, for me until now the most scenic route I ride is the St Polten - Mariazell in Austria. 760mm gauge electric, 91 km long.
I'll have to give that one a try...
