Today I checked out Betty White’s house in Brentwood California after she passed away not even one year later they sold her house which she bought in 1968. I could not believe my eyes the house was demolished and completely gone. It was really sad to see that such an iconic place was just erased.

l did synthetic putting greens for landscape west in Torrance cali. We worked w/ some very famous people while l was there in the 90s. The landscape architects are like family to these people. Kardashians. Roseanne Barr. Pete Carroll. Sugar ray Leonard. l just built the putting greens but my friend that owned the company had many 'perks' like stays at vacation properties, gifted cars, golf cart, clubs and membership, lifetime restaurant freebies etc etc. You are correct.

Great video GIV. I loved Bette White , like millions of people. You look like you’ve gotten a little color, LA is good for you. I don’t think people need homes that big, some of those homes only have 2 people living in them. People have too much money. Don’t think that you are less than them. I live near Lake Michigan, we have homes on the lake that people only live in during the summer months. Massive homes.

When I first moved to LA in1988 I was a visiting nurse. I visited many Brentwood and Bellaire residences. From what I learned most of these people own businesses or have inherited money. I also learned most of these people were not happy. Of course I can only speak about the people I met, but what looks so good on the outside is not always what it appears to be on the inside.

@@inproper3952 there are many people from all walks of financial life that are not happy. As I always say, "I'd rather be rich and miserable than poor and miserable." At least you'd be having something working in your favor. There are more miserable people who are poor than rich. Why? Because the majority of people are not rich. We lie to ourselves about these things, which we shouldn't. However, money only resolves issues that money can resolve. It all depends on the mindset of the person with the money, how they view and manage it in comparison to life. And yes, money can buy you health too. You can afford the best healthcare it can buy, but only to a point. Personally, my mind doesn't view people as being rich or poor. It's the way my thought processes were conditioned by the way I was raised. Judge people by the content of their character, period. I know, and have known, people from all walks of financial life. At the end of the day people are people. I think when people inherit money, aka generational wealth, that's where the problems may arise in some cases. When the poor come into money, and they have the wrong mindset, they don't manage it well. That's where the misery can come into play for some of them. And when I say inherit I am especially referring to those who are born into wealth. In the cases of many of those homes you see in this video, the majority are probably families with generational wealth. As for a home, home is when you are with the people that you love. Without them, it's not a home. That's true for the poor as much as it is for the rich.

Betty White wanted her home demolished and put it in her will. Her family was asked to carry this out. The new buyer wasn’t even allowed to tour the home. She didn’t want her privacy violated, nor her life turned into a circus. She wanted her private space that she shared with her late husband to be kept private. By tearing down the home they had together, she took those private memories with her.

I used to get kind of depressed when I was younger and seeing those rich people. Older I get, I realized some of them are just miserable. They get divorces or get into bad addictions etc (some); I was able to retire at age 51 and my home is paid for, I have really no bills, I could pretty much travel any where and buy things I want (not everything); but guess what, it doesn’t bring me joy. You can have all the money in the world and still be depressed and lonely. Some one said this recently; before you buy something you want or something you think you need. Remember, you have things you bought in the past that you really wanted badly and now it’s just taking up room or you don’t care about it anymore.

It was in a industrial mix area and we thought that the new owner was going to tear it down for his business. He used it as a live-in with his inventory stored in the cleared yard. Built in the 1920's it was closing in on age 95. They scraped it a year ago and now squeezed a 12 unit, 3-floor vertical apartment unit is on the 1 1/2 plot parcel. The rest of that neighborhood is going vertical at one old house at a time.

What's sad too is that compared with the era of the Golden Girls in the 1980s, I don't think the culture & politics in today's world would allow something like that. Things have become too flinty & mean-spirited. Also not helped since the format of network/antennae TV is now cable/pay/streaming.

Brentwood, CA. must be awfully nice place to live if someone paid millions to buy the house just to have it torn down to get the land piece and I guess build a new house on it. But you explained that the house was not in the best condition anymore, inside. Being built in the 50's, I wonder how it deteriorated like that? Building supplies and men working was much better back then, I think. Not like today. But maybe it wasn't as good as I think because where I live, I see a lot of mistakes in the original build and this was built in 1908.

Some people do it the shady way though. Some people inherit things. I hope they keep some of Betty White belongings to share with us. They could auction it off for animal charities! Betty was a huge animal advocate. I can't imagine the property taxes in this area of the country! LOL 😂 We all miss Betty 🌹 thanks for being a friend. Great job GIV👍💜

What?! They tore down an icon’s house?! I wonder if a new owner did that or whether that was Betty’s wish. It would have been nice to turn it into a museum or use the space for an animal related non-profit. I hope the other house that Betty built with her husband won’t be torn down too. I’m very saddened. Betty wasn’t attached to her Brentwood house, but she lived there full time for a long time. I would have liked to see something special done with the space.
By the way, I would never live where someone was murdered. Creepy! Some people aren’t bothered by that and love the major discount they get since the property value obviously goes down. 🤷🏼‍♀️

They have great/fun estate sales in Brentwood. Due to new tax laws in California(prop 19) you have to sell an inherited house quickly or pay a huge yearly increase in property taxes.

    • @bigbaddms
      @bigbaddms ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, it looks like they 'snuck' that one in 2020, even though it shouldn't have been on the ballot. So basically, if a child inherits a home from their parent, then the tax gets stepped up to the current appraised value? That would make almost every inherited house totally unaffordable, if it's been owned very long.

A Santa Monica police lady I know told me a funny Betty White story. She had parked in a big parking structure and couldn't find her car, so police lady had her get in the golf cart and they drove through the parking structure for a half hour till Betty spotted her car. She said she had her laughing the whole time. I think she was In her 80's then and still driving herself.
I worked in that area for years in construction. I was fortunate to be allowed to salvage the awesome items in the director, Kathleen Kennedy's, former home in Santa Monica. I had one week before demo and was able to find takers for the sub zero fridge, the marble island, the antique hardware and fixtures and the beautiful leaded glass windows like you see on old churches. Otherwise, they were headed to the dump. I truly enjoyed making sure the contents were not wasted.

The fact that the family sold it isn't sad. Property taxes are due every 6 months, which could be quite a large sum of money in an expensive neighborhood. But the fact that it's just sitting there vacant is just a waste of money. In addition, even though it's empty, it still must be insured and looked after, so someone has to go thru the house once in a while, and landscapers must perform maintenance.

I had a service business in Santa Monica and Brentwood for years and that is where i learned what a trust fund baby was and I had people ask me if working was good for your soul and your mind because they would like to try it sometime to see what it would be like .The other people I met in that area were super talented and made money from their talent. I worked very hard and mostly just kept my head above water so to speak . When the ocean fog burns off in the morning the cutoff is pretty much Bundy and west of that the "June Gloom" stays going west to the ocean. I think that is the reason for the lush green lawns and trees. If you leave part of the house intact and just remodel your taxes don`t go up as much as a new build due to a weird part of the tax law where a remodel keeps it`s old taxes so you drive thru brentwood and you see a house with ten old 2x4s standing while a new house is being built around it that is the reason.
