    Great lessons I really like that you offer some alternative grips. Soon as I find more time I'll really try and get the true chords. I wish you had some Camp Fire simplified versions of songs. Six of us get together twice a month from 6 to1AM and try to play 25 to 40 songs in 7 Hrs and have fun. We don't have the time to really get the tougher chords down as some of us have day jobs. Several times I have watched you and 4 other tutorials to get a quickie Camp Fire set of chords One song was "Black Water" You had a great tutorial . I always check your channel first.

      Agreed, they defintetely made a nice cover of this song. (Some ARS fans mistakingly think it is an original of their favorite band). They didn't just cover it of course, they added quite a lot of own accents, and what a perfect voice for this song....

    Mahalo plenty, Dale. Long time no see. Great lesson. I use a 13th (5-x-5-6-7-x) vs the '6'. It sounds a bit fuller, and allows me to get the 6th bass string into the mix....but hey....they both work.

      Me too…I definitely hear a lowered 7th in that chord. Giving it a dominant quality. The high 6th makes it an A13

    Fantastic lesson.
    re: Diminished chords. They generally seem to b used as a transition chord. I think of Garth Brooks' intro to Low Places. However, I always wonder where or when to insert a diminished chord into my own playing. Watching u do a half step slide into the chord is a nice touch. I'm wondering if u or any one else out there might have a simple idea as to when to use the diminished chord in a common chord progression such as a I, IV, V???
    THANKS IN ADVANCE.

    Hiya Dale, Campfire version success. :) I hope you don't mind if I posted this. I found the original Classics 4 recording doesn't do the Key shift from Em to Fm So its easier for our old guy garage band to play. (thank goodness) :) I grab the Em7 at 022x33 and the A6 is a x02222 The B flat dim is like you showed XX2323 For me it sounds the best. I strum by the neck PU with a floppy index finger which sounds softer and jazzy. So, the easy campfire version for us is just those 3 chords (well maybe add a Bm7 too). Thank you for this lesson. This is a great song our chick singers wanted to do for a long time, we just didn't know where to start. You got me motivated and I really learned a lot. PS: I'm subscribed.

    Second chord in the verse is actually an A13.

      6th & 13th is the same note!

    • @srwaite7
      @srwaite7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I play A13 instead of the 6th - more of a Jazz II-V approach. Of course, the 13 is a 6 but the 13 sounds better to my ears 😎

    • @cookymann
      @cookymann 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. The 6th in the key of A is F#. However in an A13 there is a G note which is the 7th in the key of A. Hence the name A13. (6+7)=13. So.... no, it isn't the same chord. If they were the same chord there would be no need for a 13. They are not the same chord.

    Hey Tonedr, here is a video of the very thing I am trying to explain: This guy is hitting what you call a Bflat diminished in your video and calling it an E diminished? See if you can shed some musical light on this subject for me and for anyone else that may be wondering?

    • @tonedr
      @tonedr  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think i can - with a diminished cord you can use ANY note in the cord as the name of the chord - or 'root' tone.

    • @DeMarkieSade
      @DeMarkieSade 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok logical! But theoretically (and no matter what key one is in) it is still the secondary leading tone seven diminished of dominant five or sharp subdominant four diminished, right?
