    Keys in the post looks like a great find. I actually had to swap out my entire drivers door barrel as when I got mine it was trashed (I think someone tried to steal it a long time ago). I have a key that came with it and I programmed that to unlock remotely. So I have a key that I can use to manually unlock/lock the door and remotely unlock the doors, and my main keys that I can use to remotely unlock the doors, manually do the passenger door with and also start the car with. Confusing, but it works! Nice kitchen by the way!

      Hi Ben! Wow, sounds like a right old key combo you have going on there! Losing the ignition barrel/drivers door lock is one of those things that makes me think "Shall I buy a set of all 3 locks (both doors and the ingition barrel) from a scrapper and replace the lot? Its a fair chunk of work but seems to be loads of people scrapping these wonderful cars on Facebook/Ebay. I am determined to save one (a hard top) if the channel gets to 1000 subscribers! I would like to make so much more content and feel a project like that would benefit everyone! Thanks for the kitchen feedback! There was a reason to install bifolds... TT photoshoots when the wife is out!

    I didn't need serious key surgery but I did have to replace a battery and the electronic lock/unlock wasn't working.
    Followed the steps given in the video and, at first, didn't think it had worked but then after taking my key out and turning off the car, tada! I had also tried the steps a few times, maybe in slightly different ways. Futzing around with it did the trick.

    Had the same experience with an ebay complete uncut key, locksmiths would give me the same story they can't cut it as it would ruin their gear blah blah blah. In the end, found a locksmith that would cut it for 10eur and I also managed to 100% program the new key with free tools available online. Won't publish the info on a public video of course... And of course I found the lost key afterwards so now I have 4 keys for the TT.

      Thanks for the feedback! When you start it and it immediately stops on the 2nd key, do you see the flashing car and key symbol I show on the video? It sounds to me like that key fob does not have the immobiliser chip linked or does not exist in the fob. I think you may need the chip programming by a auto locksmith in that instance my friend. I have seen you can rent a device that does this also. I will try and find a link for it!

    I need help, my broken part is the bracket that holds the key.. my fob is fine my key is fine but it no longer holds the key, I bought a key part replacement to get the metal circular bracket (figured out how to get it out thanks to your video, thankyou!) It’s the bit the key slots into that’s broken, however the key is thicker than the bracket of the replacement one so cannot fit, also the spring came out and I cannot figure out how to make it flip again

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Laura. Sorry to hear you are having a drama with your key. The key "blade" as such does not fit all of the after market bey blanks, particularly on Ebay, etc. My suggestion would be to take a look on there again though and ensure the fob blank is the right match for the year and model of your TT. Some of the "generic" audi flip keys are a right royal pain. The blad I had cut by Keysinthepost fitted my original key knuckle perfectly but does not fit in the aftermarket fob. So the right year model fob must fit. I hope that helps and thanks for the comment.

    • @laurabailey1770
      @laurabailey1770 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andycharger Thankyou for your reply! It is definitely the correct key replacement for the year as it’s identical, just not as good quality, I haven’t attempted switching the electrical bits as I’m too scared! However, if I ever need to I will follow your video advice. The official key didn’t fit the metal bit (technical name of which I do not know!) myself and dad fixed it though! Dad used a metal file to file down a smidge of the key thickness (the bit that slots into the metal holder) and it worked a treat and the pin went back in! One fixed key, yay! I also lost the ability to lock it with the fob after doing this, however this fixed by turning the key twice left in the door and once right and then pressing the unlock button? No idea if this is a known fix but it worked!

I already have the new in package belt. My TT roadster convertable is 2002. So, I helped him decode it and we made it work together and he only charged me for the materials which was a new key fob with immo chip. • @mds2465
    @mds2465 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    my friends MK1 TT has an issue where both of the keys that the car came with cannot be programmed to the car. Not sure yet if that's an issue with the proprietary immobilizer system or if it's something that I'll be able to correct with my OBDEleven Pro scanner, but I would definitely like to find out what can be done about this issue. I already scanned the car with my OBDEleven Pro tool and I got a few miscellaneous codes that said it was triggered, incorrect component detected, etc. I cleared the codes and scanned it again, and the majority of the codes went away but it still has an active fault code (#01581) in the central locking system that says incorrect component detected. Not sure why but perhaps you or somebody here might be able to shed some light on this issue.

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael and thanks for watching and your comments. You would be right in thinking that the keys are paired with the immobiliser chip with the car. This in in the instrument cluster. So if they are not working with the immobiliser chip, the tell tale sign will be that the car will start briefly and then immediately die with a light on the instrument cluster. I do not believe you can reprogram these with OBDEleven or VCDS but a Automotive Locksmith can reprogram these at home normally. I would suggest getting your friend to try that first buddy.

      To be fair, you will lose nothing by removing the battery if its dead. If you follow my pairing process in the main video, it does all you need.

      @@andycharger ive had a replaced a battery before, and the key did not work. I had to pay to get it reprogrammed

      Not in a TT then. If you follow my video on the reprogramming part, it works exactly the same. Yes some keys need reprogramming like that but TTs rely on being reset by the process of using the key in the door and the ignition. If you look through the comments on this video you will see that my technique works where other video guides on youtube have not.

    So, if my one and only original key goes out, what do I do? I'm guessing I'll have to suck it up and go to dealer?!?

      How do you mean, goes out? Provided the original key is in the ignition and another key is in the door you should be ok. The engine will start but not run on a key that does not have the immobiliser chip in it but you should be able to reprogram any key to make the buttons work.

    Note: This is the reprogramming sequence for a *new* key, NOT the re-synchronisation process for an *existing* key.
    Reprogramming keys risks erasing the existing working key(s). The car has 4 memory slots for 4 different keys. The number of times you press the lock button indicates the slot that is being programmed. If, after programming your new key you find the other key is no longer working for the central locking, repeat the process with keys reversed and instead press lock TWICE (or three or four times) for the second (or third or fourth) keys, wait 5 seconds and then press unlock once to complete the programming.
    Re-synchronisation for a key that was previously working, but has simply lost sync with the car due to replacing a flat fob battery, is a lot simpler. Press unlock in the fob, unlock the car via drivers door with physical key, then press unlock on the fob again. Rather than reprogramming the key this method simply resynchronises the remote code sequence with the car (assuming key was already programmed in the first place). For this method no need to worry about which slot to program.

    Your situation is the worst case example of too many keys on a ring. Usually this will cause the key housing to get loose and go bad. I have no keys on my car key. When I leave the house, house keys go in car, car key is already in the car( have a garage). When I get where I am going I just take the car the key, leave all the others in the car. Just a thought
