In my opinion - the biggest change is Pokemon Pocket - it brought so many people back into Pokemon TCG (including me) - so these people are checking "what's the newest set" and that was Surging Sparks, and now Prismatic Evolutions. When the game will fade a little bit, I think things will get back to normal, hopefully.
i totally disagree, i think these kind of videos are are gaslighting the community. Any scalper, collector or content creator can have plenty to choose from in terms of sets and cards. Also he apologizes after he says "every pack i opened up of prismatic evolutions i felt bad".. then why release the video?? Take it down if you feel that bad, but you dont feel bad enough to remove the video that make you money buying up all those packs for content. i would feel bad too if an influx of people came into pokemon (which is a good thing) and could stop me from getting cards to collect myself and make content. i really like poke rev and i think this his video was an "L" take. i mean look at his collection, you cannot tell me that this is not investing at some point. Everyone is on the same playing field and the more who come in the more demand will be asked and "the pokemon company" has all the opportunity to capitalize on making alot of money. I do not have the same fear, if anything, i think its going to pay off big for everyone.
Yea, he's a part of the problem. Along with every other youtuber who hype the shit out of stuff for easy content. I get that it's kind of their job, but no way do they have the right to say they're guilty when their videos are still up.

Fact is scalpers are ruining a lot of hobbies… you shouldn’t be forced to buy these sealed boxes on the secondary market at the frequency you have too! Someone buying 500 boxes using an algorithm to beat actual customers is a sick practice! Then those ppl either do whatnot break streams forcing ppl to pay triple the price or put it up on TCG player for the $150 price point artificially inflating the market it should have NEVER gotten to this early!
@ Very easy for someone who has a successful TH-cam channel to say that. When scalpers make it artificially more difficult for the average person to get their hands on a product at the MSRP price it’s supposed to be selling at, that definitely ruins a hobby for someone. Everyone collects and displays things but sitting on sealed cases to artificially inflated the market really annoys the intended buyers. Just to preface I think someone like PokeRev is also part of the problem as well.
If anyone was in the hobby during covid this too shall pass. Pokémon during that time was very similar, everything was getting bought as well. Keep positive ya’ll!
I was there and I still remember vivid voltage at $250/box at peak and supply was none. PRoduct was being rationed and lines were forming at places like target. Is it bigger this time around? Yes, but it's same cycle! Once Pokemon gets a grip on the supply 50%+ of the people that "came back" will be gone and have moved on again. I would not be surprised if we get another big reprint dump like in 2021. Big enough that every single product will go back to MSRP!

Unlike Covid, this is "natural" growth in the hobby that has not been forced by being at home with a stimi check. People will be lucky to ever see Surging Sparks below $175. This is not a bubble and the bull market with cardboard will outlast Surging Sparks print run. I am not happy about any of it as a long term collector and someone that loves to rip packs, but ain't no denying this market.
I see where you're coming from but personally find it baffling how big influencers in the hobby such as Rev complaining about preorders and prices but sits on massive amounts of product whereas your average collector is having trouble getting 1 ETB, BB, etc. Just my humble opinion.

I consider myself a lover of the artwork on the cards. Unfortunately I have an expensive taste as most of the cards I really like get expensive 😅. But I'm also trying to invest (small) seeing how the prices skyrocket for some sets. As mentioned, I love the artwork of some cards so if I can get it in Japanese, Corean or Chinees, it doesn't matter to me. I like to open cheap packs, so would be happy if I could get the other languages for cheap to open. And to invest it's better to stick with English.
GameStop and other retailers may be making an announcement soon about delays in future prismatic products. It has to do with theft of SIR cards at the North Carolina, Morrisville printing facility. I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, but Management at Millennium Print, are forbidden to discuss the situation, as it could lead to disciplinary action “up to and including termination,” because the reduced hit rate will negatively impact “consumer confidence” (Money)
Grateful for your level headedness. These were my thoughts exactly… I bought into the FOMO during Shining Fates after returning to the hobby. Purchased an ETB for $120 from my LGS and thought it was a good deal. Look at Shining Fates product and card prices now… Pokémon will definitely print to demand but unfortunately lots of people will need to learn the hard way like I did. Most importantly people need to remember history repeats itself. This cycle will happen again and again as long as there’s money to be made in the hobby. Once Pokémon meets demand - which they will - everything will reset and calm down until the next “hype wave”
I’m apart of the Yu-Gi-Oh! community and I’m so used to cards being priced at hundreds of dollars only for Konami to reprint them and the cards price drops expeditiously. Pokemon community will survive this. It’s just a matter of time before there’s an oversupply.
I think Rev has a point and is most likely correct if Pokémon doesn't print these next two sets and the new rocket set into the ground...they need to smash it like shining fates

I haven't seen his video yet, But i just got back into card collecting with 151, i found packs and got them. Then i couldn't find them and started getting other packs. But at this point i am questioning if i wanna drop the hobby because of all the scalpers, I got shoved a few times and watched people grab cases when i just wanted one. I like Pokémon and wanna collect the cards. I just got back into it, I collected as a kid and now i might drop it again
I’m sorry to hear about people shoving you in the stores - that’s not cool. I hope you don’t leave though - there are a lot of great things about this community. I’d focus on collecting other eras if you’re having trouble finding the latest-and-greatest. That’s what I do.
I live in a 24k people city and my pokemon card places are always sold out… I drive down 40ish miles to a city with 18k and it’s like the truck just unloaded…
I think the hype is turning off a lot of long-time collectors. I , myself will take a wait and see approach. If I can get it at a reasonable price fine, but if not, not going to lose sleep over it. I do enjoy PokeRevs postings as well as yours. Charizard is what got me into this hobby years ago and there are still plenty of cards of Charizard available.
Fear is a dangerous emotion. Most of those who buy and rip Pokemon cards are not watching YT. People really need to relax and not buy into FOMO. THE sportscard money that is now in the market changes everything. I worry very little about if I can get it. If I get it, cool. If I don’t, cool! I will just get it when I can get it.
We all know why Pokemon are hyped up. Let's be honest with ourselves and not sugar coat it. With all the short form videos and long form before that, we all like to see people open packs. It's a form of gambling. The channels that have the biggest following and have been around awhile make the most money from TH-cam. They can buy any packs, have connections to new releases, which then makes for better videos. They have awesome studios with pokémon memorabilia and rare cards sitting everywhere. It's very entertaining, which is the whole point. It makes people think, "All I have to do is record myself opening packs and I can make money on TH-cam". Yes you can do that but you won't get rich overnight like a lot are kidding themselves into believing. So more hype from the top dogs that open thousands of dollars worth of Pokemon leads to the avg Joe going out, trying to find the best packs, hoping they pull an awesome card, all for a 30 second endorphin rush. While it's awesome when it happens, putting the prices of every card pulled doesn't help the "gambling aspect" IMO.
True, the content creators do contribute a lot to the hype. You could see this as a bad thing, but overall I think it just helps to grow the hobby, which I’m all for.

I understand what you are trying to say. But having bin gone true all the hype periods in the past saying the problems we have now are the same as back then is cutting a corner real hard. First off all the hobby has bin under attack by investors for awhile now with as far going as fake buyouts to boost prices of cards and sealed products. Then you seem to say prismatic evolution is on the same level as sets like shining fates? Really? I do not know under what rock you lived under but this set was screwed over 10x as hard since the moment they put the Eeveelutions in there. There is a reason Evolving skies blew up… then to make things even worse they decided to not only print in a row Prismatic evolution but also journey together and a new Team rocket set. All sets that the Pokemon company should have known would cause problem hypes at their own let alone in one line back to back! On top of that who knows what sets come after this and let us not forget next year is their 30th anniversary so this hype train is not going anywhere fast! The Pokemon company is at fault here big time they should have made massive print runs to start with because even a blind and deaf person would have known this would happen way in advance …! But no they rather wasted time and energy for china then use their printers to make a decent supply for an already super successful global market.
I feel this isnt a problem with just Pokemon as well, the Zelda and Mario franchises are absolutely diabolical as well, coming from a collector, i have a ton of things all over the place but when i tell you the sealed stuff is absolutely insane, I am going to say the other franchises definitely arent as bad as the Pokemon one, in no way should the American versions of the pokemon xy 3DS consoles be $400+ when in 2019 they were $100, even the game cartridges ALONE are insane like i got pokemon platinum in 2018 for $30 and its an insane price for just the cartridge alone now. But Nintendos main 3 franchises are definitely some of the worst Ive seen and it really sucks

I have had a bad taste in my mouth. This hobby used to be really fun. I’m in a Pokémon community group on Facebook. In December a lot of people in the group were buying all the 151 products that was being restocked for a few weeks and they posted it in the group to make a quick buck🤦♂️ scalpers
Personally I put the TCG on the low burner ever since the start of Sword & Shield do buy the occasional Singles or Box Product here and there but a long shot compared to years prior Not a Fan of the Modern Inflated Set Designs & Product-lines & the "Community" that has developed around it the past few Years, hasnt done much good IMO See too many ppl jus looking at it like an Investment/Lottery Cash Grab (and in some occasions Clout) PS have been Activly collecting since WotC, had abit of a lul around the Later DP/Early BW sets
I must be out of touch with new collectors because I've been loving the hobby lately. I love seeing my collection going up in value and it's never gone up as fast as it is right now. Yes I'm aware that products are harder to find but that's not the worst thing. We need to educate new people on preorders and all the ways to find product. Alot of people like to complain that they can't find the hot in demand new set exactly when they want it.
Crazy times we live in. I don’t think of myself as a “scalper,” but I’m now planning to sell the 2 Pokemon Center ETBs I preordered for Prismatic Evolutions. At a certain point, market value is just way higher than what these products are worth to me. I feel like I’m part of the problem (which I hate), but that’s just how it is.
I just got back into collecting again during 151 because I grew up with the original cards/pokemon. I'm definitely taking a step back now and letting things calm down before I decide to come back.
This happens all the time. Poke Rev was way off what he said. There is always some sets that sell more than others. And then prices die. People act like we are never going to get a restock, but they restock all the time. This is not covid. They will reprint stuff constantly. So what if you can't get it right off the bat? You will be able to get it in a few weeks. Every generation of cars, there is at least 2 or 3 sets that will sell insanely well at the start, even without scalpers. And then the prices bottom out.
Actually I'm also afraid of the path the hobby is taking, or let's say companies and marketers as well as collectors themselves. Indeed the price of this new set is very high, and it is almost unobtainable. And if we look at what you get from (hits) inside the ETB, you will definitely be disappointed! But those who love collecting cards will love it at the highest price too 🥲😅 Thanks for the great video. I always enjoy and benefit from your videos 🙏👍

There is a reason Evolving skies blew up… then to make things even worse they decided to not only print in a row Prismatic evolution but also journey together and a new Team rocket set. All sets that the Pokemon company should have known would cause problem hypes at their own let alone in one line back to back! On top of that who knows what sets come after this and let us not forget next year is their 30th anniversary so this hype train is not going anywhere fast! The Pokemon company is at fault here big time they should have made massive print runs to start with because even a blind and deaf person would have known this would happen way in advance …! But no they rather wasted time and energy for china then use their printers to make a decent supply for an already super successful global market.
So if you’ve been through the hype periods, you should know that this has all happened before… and it’s all going to turn out ok.

I feel this isnt a problem with just Pokemon as well, the Zelda and Mario franchises are absolutely diabolical as well, coming from a collector, i have a ton of things all over the place but when i tell you the sealed stuff is absolutely insane, I am going to say the other franchises definitely arent as bad as the Pokemon one, in no way should the American versions of the pokemon xy 3DS consoles be $400+ when in 2019 they were $100, even the game cartridges ALONE are insane like i got pokemon platinum in 2018 for $30 and its an insane price for just the cartridge alone now. But Nintendos main 3 franchises are definitely some of the worst Ive seen and it really sucks

I have had a bad taste in my mouth. This hobby used to be really fun. I’m in a Pokémon community group on Facebook. In December a lot of people in the group were buying all the 151 products that was being restocked for a few weeks and they posted it in the group to make a quick buck🤦♂️ scalpers

Honestly my only take on this comes from my econ knowledge that being supply and demand. That being said just wait for restock don't fall for FOMO.

do buy the occasional Singles or Box Product here and there
but a long shot compared to years prior
Not a Fan of the Modern Inflated Set Designs & Product-lines
& the "Community" that has developed around it the past few Years, hasnt done much good IMO
See too many ppl jus looking at it like an Investment/Lottery Cash Grab

I must be out of touch with new collectors because I've been loving the hobby lately. I love seeing my collection going up in value and it's never gone up as fast as it is right now. Yes I'm aware that products are harder to find but that's not the worst thing. We need to educate new people on preorders and all the ways to find product. Alot of people like to complain that they can't find the hot in demand new set exactly when they want it.

Crazy times we live in. I don’t think of myself as a “scalper,” but I’m now planning to sell the 2 Pokemon Center ETBs I preordered for Prismatic Evolutions. At a certain point, market value is just way higher than what these products are worth to me. I feel like I’m part of the problem (which I hate), but that’s just how it is.
You’re not at all part of the problem. This hobby operates around buying and selling - you shouldn’t feel bad about that.

I just got back into collecting again during 151 because I grew up with the original cards/pokemon. I'm definitely taking a step back now and letting things calm down before I decide to come back.
Pokemon has been around for like 30 years. Plenty of product for the next 10 years. Don't be so dramatic
This happens all the time. Poke Rev was way off what he said. There is always some sets that sell more than others. And then prices die. People act like we are never going to get a restock, but they restock all the time. This is not covid. They will reprint stuff constantly. So what if you can't get it right off the bat? You will be able to get it in a few weeks. Every generation of cars, there is at least 2 or 3 sets that will sell insanely well at the start, even without scalpers. And then the prices bottom out.
What Iceman said 👆🏽 no need to freak out or even step back - reprints will come and there’s still lots to collect in the meantime.
There's literally packs from every set everywhere. Nothing is ruined. This set is for the rich.

Actually I'm also afraid of the path the hobby is taking, or let's say companies and marketers as well as collectors themselves. Indeed the price of this new set is very high, and it is almost unobtainable. And if we look at what you get from (hits) inside the ETB, you will definitely be disappointed!
