- The 2022 Critic’s Choice Awards, held on the same night as the 2022 BAFTAs saw an enclave of celebrities ready to show up to the red carpet, but not exactly show out. To give credit to Lady Gaga, she did attend both awards shows in person, which is far more effort than I would be willing to put in. But with Andrew Garfield, Selena Gomez, Lakeith Stanfield, Lee Jung-jae, HoYeon Jung, and Kristen Stewart there was a lot to discuss.

Gaga's dress kinda makes me feel like everyone on the team was assigned to do a certain part, but didnt really comunicate with each other.
Maybe I’m old school, but he thinks Gaga and Gucci should have gone farther with this, and all I can think is they should have gone higher, as in, hiking those puppies up. Being over the top doesn’t mean you should look squashed on top as well!
So it was a reflection of life in general.
YES it looks like one of those drawings you would do in school where each person adds one thing and passes it to the next person & it ends up looking like a monster. it lacks cohesion & gaga deserved so much better!!!

The breast part of Gaga’s outfit was the main problem, it looked like one those stick on adhesive bras that are supposed to be for sleeveless shirts. The designers should have given it more structure so it would hold up the girls better.

It's not even the fact that Selena's gown is meticulously fitted, it's that the cape attachment to the gown gives her a queenly feel... it's such a powerful statement, love it

Lady Gaga’s dress is as if it was meant to be worn with nips showing, but last minute, they sent someone to Walmart to buy sticky bra cups and only black was available to boot. It looks so jarringly disjointed from the rest of the design.
HoYeon Jung's dress seems to be a reference to 1920's English court presentation dresses, which had a drop waist but still opted for a ballgown-type skirt, as was traditional for court presentation gowns. Although - you're definitely right, the style of pannier in the dress is def more evocative of the 18th century, and probably wouldn't have been seen in the 20s
1920’s dresses with panniers were called robe de style! It’s essentially a historical reference from a hundred years ago.

I know this isn’t what you normally do but I feel like it would be really cool if you looked at the runway of dreams looks from February 8, 2022. Everyone that modeled was disabled and most of the clothes were made for people with limited mobility, prosthetics, and or sensory issues.
6:19 Luke, I think that the the Louis Vuitton 2022 dress is taking inspiration from the 1920s Robe de Style, which was a drop-waist dress (much like most flapper dresses) but were known to have small panniers to give it structure underneath. It was sort of inspired by the 18th century too according to papers. But I doubt that LV reinvented the Robe de Style by mashing the flapper and the court dresses together. I think it’s more plausible that they just wanted to revive the robe de style.

Hoyeon Jung’s Louis Vuitton is not necessarily based off both 20s and 1700, but rather just the 1920s! Court dress was still a thing in this era, as were ball gowns, and they were typically this panniered silhouette, with the drop waist. They looked quite funny even in the era, and with this gorgeous 20s beading, this reference is actually quite close to the real deal! Still, very fair not to be a fan. Personally, I’m kinda here for it, ngl.

A bit of historical context for the Louis Vuitton dress (Dress history major reporting for duty:) so in the 1920s there was a revival of panniers (which date back to the 18th century). This was by no means a wide spread fashion worn everyday. I believe it was primarily high fashion and special occasion. There are some really fun images of women using panniers in The 20s to smuggle alcohol.
So many times we have heard you say 'i wish we would have had the pleats throughout and leave the belt off'. I saw those pleats and was like Holy Shit was someone paying attention finally?
I just realized that there is a relation between all the caped looks we started seeing from like 2018 and the use of the term "caping" on social media to describe someone who is always coming to the rescue of others.
Gaga in this Gucci = humiliation ritual.
I think Gucci did it on purpose as a pay-back for the movie. I think she knows this and decided to wear it like it was what she wanted. I had an incredible terrible hair experience once and that is what I did. Brave, beautiful Gaga. House of Gucci - Gaga owes you nothing.

I think Gucci didn't know what do do with Gaga. They wanted to do something special since she is "promoting" the brand with the movie in a way, but now I understand why her stylists almost never choose Gucci gowns. They know Gucci doesn't does her well.
100% Thats what I have found interesting during this press tour, because Gaga pretty much never wore Gucci (at least not for red carpets) before this movie. She wears a lot of other designers (McQueen, Valentino, Versace, Armani, Brandon Maxwell, etc) but Gucci doesn't seem to be 'her'. At least her BAFTAS look was good.

On the other hand, Salma Hayek look the best with Gucci, not just because her husband is the CEO of the brand, but because her style is more classy, simple and sexy femme fatale. When it comes to the creative Gaga fashion, there are other brands better at tht.

Nicole Byer best dressed! Christian Siriano is such a good designer for women with normal bodies. I know he’s derivative many times but he seems like he really pays attention to what makes a size 8-22 woman look and feel good. Wish more designers did that and more “celebrities” were average or plus sized.

selena's been looking great! i feel like she's found a style that fits her which is simple, elegant and mature. kate young has often styled her in things too small or big on her and these recent gowns shows you what a perfectly tailored outfit can do. i hope she does red carpets more often.

The Hoyeon Jung dress is a *robe de style* - in the 1920s dresses very much like this, with the pannier, were an alternative to the typical straight cut dress. Not saying this one’s great, but it does reference an interesting movement from the past.

you can see examples in Downton Abbey season 4, final episode, when a character is presented at court and is a debutante!
