The kids hide in a hollow partly phasing tree they find an abandoned wire trolley that's perfectly upkept (and later it's used to take them back??) there's a factory that's running at full efficiency but whose only purpose is to put together and take apart the same machines forever there's other artifacts of humanity just scattered across the world, not to mention the upside down pyramid the area entirely made of toys It's all so strange and I love it

As someone who loved the Chao Garden and his Tamagotchi as a kid and has found Next Order can scratch that itch - I really want to try World 1. (I also want Agumon in Smash Bros to put more eyes on the V-Pet genre. Plus imagine having it evolve differently based on if you're using Zoner, Punisher, Rushdown, or Mix-Up tactics... with Numemon to punish Stall tactics. Also probably having a trend of "automated attacks" like Sonic's Homing Attack and Palutena's Auto-Reticle. Probably a Gaurd-Blocker-Defend inspired move cause that is a mechanical trend in Digimon, and some kind of burst mobility option as a nod to the Vital Bracelet.)
This was a really enjoyable watch, your dive into the sega saturn game was my personal favorite as that game was genuinely a really nice way of experiencing OG digimon as the vpet on a console. Can't wait for part 2!
I'm just watching and listening in. My friends know nothing about Digimon really, I'm the one who is the Digimon guy who also still plays Pokémon. But I love hearing about all these new things that I am not aware of from Digimon's history. This is such a cool video.
Fantastic video! About the start, apparently pokemon also took inspiration from Ultraseven which had "Capsule Kaiju" and thats where the original name "Capsule Monsters" came from and also likely why they changed it. Look forward to part 2 no matter how long it takes

I've been watching thousands of TH-cam videos since 2007. After watching the whole video, this has become my favorite TH-cam video, and I can certainly see myself rewatching this video again and again till part 2 comes out. Heck, I feel guilty that I watched the whole thing for free. I've learned so much about this wonderful franchise from the post-tamagotchi era to 1999 and how new rosters were added in a consistent timeline. No bias or misformation is ever spotted during my viewership which is what I fully appreciate. Plus the amount of editing involved in this passion project must have been so brutal that it's commendable that you've got this completed with eye-catching end result within 2 plus hours of the duration. I'm happy to encounter this informative video that discusses Digimon's proper history and clarification of the franchise's contemporaries, and not having to use up so much time discussing the animes (which is what most of Digimon content on YT is offering nowadays). I don't want to sound like another viewer being entitled to demand part 2, but considering how engaging this video is, take as much time as needed if you decide to continue working on the continuation of this passion project of yours. No work of art should ever be rushed and I've waited for videos that took years to complete and I can definitely do the same for this one. Any Digimon fan that's bigger than I am deserves my loyalty, but you got yourself a dedicated subscriber and a new patreon. I know it's over a year since this vid has been posted, but thank you for this video and brightening my day.
Thank you for this beautiful comment. I very much appreciate it, and I hope when I can set my computer back up and resume work that I can make the next video as informative as the last one. This year has been very rough for me with more things happening after I made the comment to the last person a month ago, but I’m sure next year will be much better and I might even be able to get two videos out. We’ll see, though I don’t want to make promises on that. And I’ll be posting up the first one cut up with some editing errors fixed up as well. The editing, not counting the script, had taken 3 months of roughly 10 hours a day with the goal of trying to release on August 1st. Even then there was a lot of things that I found during the editing process that I added in and re-recorded or recorded separately to do so. Unfortunately I don’t have a timeline on the script because I worked on that on and off long before I started editing the video itself. I’m also happy that my research into the contemporaries was liked, as I was initially concerned people would be annoyed that I was taking so long to get to Digimon proper. I’m now also thinking at some point I’ll go into those other games and franchises and talk about them if I can. Considering the amount of games, it might be its own mini series. I had a lot of fun going down that rabbit hole when I did. As long as the video is there’s actually some topics I had to remove for time, like the TCG AND I forgot to add in the 3.5 VPet. So I’ll be adding those into the next video, for sure.

No, I’d never cancel the series, so plan to finish all the videos. While I do have a patreon set up, it just isn’t priority at the moment as a hobby channel because I have other projects I’m doing at the same time, some just as big and some aren’t related to TH-cam and I’m splitting my time equally between all of them and irl. Great video. Digimon may very well be the first IP I have continued to care about since I first saw it (the anime started when I was five) so it's always nice to see a long form video about it. My brother had the first two Digimon World games, but didn't get particularly far in either, so it's still really weird seeing Myotismon as an ally in need of rescue! Looking forward to more!
It would have been really cool if we could have grown up with Digimon vpets being released every few months, the manga, the early console games, and then finally the anime. I think this would have made the introduction of different Digimon more impactful. The Digimon World segment made me realize how I got nowhere in the game as a kid lmao. I can't wait for part 2; this is a great video!
Yeah, like I said in my video, I really do wonder what Digimon culture over here would be like if Bandai marketed it the same way in the west as it did in Japan. Digimon only took off due to the anime despite being here longer than Pokemon. But I guess the games and anime for Pokémon coming out at the same time as each other was the double-hit to success where as Bandai USA did everything it could to keep Digimon down, intentionally or not. I keep hearing a lot of people say they never got far in Digimon World as kids! Seeing how my cousin played games as a kid, I imagine it could be young kids, despite knowing how to read, just didn’t want to read what Digimon were saying, or they didn’t explore enough.

Having bought a Digimon V-Pet in roughly 1998 and played the original Digimon World on release, the extreme divergence the series and franchise would take following the release of the anime was always something of a curiosity to me. For the anime, would you recommend the English dub or original Japanese? I grew up on the dub, but it's been a long time and I have no idea how well it holds up in terms of faithful translation (e.g. if any important character work or plot points were bizarrely cut, as a number of dubs have done in the past) or if it (mostly) improves upon the original version's writing and/or character expressiveness (acting-wise).
Thank you! Part 2 is partially written out but I'll be posting a different video I'm struggling through first, then I'll fully get started on it. Personally, I see nothing wrong with the English dub. But I also don't adhere to strict adherence to the original Japanese like some people do. As long as the major character beats and plot points are kept in tact, I consider it a faithful dubbing. That being said, Digimon's English dub does have some changes to it despite it's relative faithful (for the time) adaptation. Some things just can't be translated correctly for a western child audience who has no understanding of how foreign cultures work, so it's unrealistic to expect for the intent of young children to understand that they'll remain entirely intact and I'll get into that in part 2. The overall character beats are still present, but they're dealt with in a different way depending on if characterization is changed. Sora for instance, is a lot 'meaner' in Japanese than she is in English, which comes back to bite her in Tri. after the reboot when Piyomon treats her like she treated Piyomon in Adventure. It was good character stuff. They switched her character from someone who inwardly and outwardly didn't know if she was capable of loving someone, to instinctually being kind while outwardly thinking she wasn't, which imo can have it's own interesting nuances. The same goes to Yamato/Matt, who gained a somewhat sarcastic/snarky humour in the dub to hide his insecurities, and it culminates in Gabumon gaining those traits even during Matt's depression period because that was what was 'normal' for his partner. Japanese culture when it comes to gender, societal roles, sibling relationships, divorce and adoption are all also very different from the west, and it wouldn't properly translate as something recognizable and relatable to western children. As for outright cuts, I don't believe anything was outright omitted outside of blatantly inappropriate things like nudity, part of the hitchhiking scene, reference to alcohol and an 8 year old being given a gun. All things reasonably no one wants encouraged in the western world where as the Japanese have less of an issue with it for various reasons. So ultimately for me, I think both are perfectly watchable and enjoyable for their differences and similarities. Others in the fandom are more purist and look down on the dub as being inaccurate, but I take the stance that the dub for the first season was given a lot of time and attention, even if it had some grating elements like putting voice lines where there was silence before, jokes that aged poorly/are cringe, or the unfortunate mistake of revealing a plot point before it was formally introduced. People act like the Japanese version was some high art masterpiece while the dub is some bastardization of it. But the dub did some good work that not a lot of people acknowledge for the sake of broad-brushing the dubbing of the 90's as bad. Also, the dub took out a lot of the (literal) toilet humour, which I appreciate.

I appreciate the long-form answer and acknowledgement of some of the differing upsides and downsides between the two versions. I understand that no translation is perfect and cultural values will often create disparities or trickiness there. It sounds like whichever one I go with there will be some aspects that could rub me the wrong way, and I can only hope they seldom present themselves. But it seems like I have a lot to look forward to as well, so perhaps I'll try both and see which which carries me further. Glad to hear that to hear that there's not really a wrong choice here. Though I have one more question, since you brought it up: If Tri is a reboot, and I only had time for one series, would you recommend it over the original, or no?
@@MisterA744 Tri. isn't a reboot. It takes place roughly 2-3 years after the events of 02 and all of the original cast are teenagers in the 15-18 range. The main theme of Tri. is that the group are transitioning out of adolescence and into adulthood. They now see the complexities of the world in a way much different than they did as children when their journey was a much more simplistic, black and white one and they struggle to navigate their roles in both wider society and as digidestined. The sequel to Tri. is Last Evolution Kizuna and 02: The Beginning with both films featuring the characters as adults. So far that seems to be the end for the original Adventure timeline. The true reboot was Digimon Adventure: 2020, which I haven't watched much of, but I've been told it isn't very good. Much more taking the word Adventure and running it into the ground and less character work. Spectacle. With the larger budget they do interesting things with alt digivolutions, though, so I at least appreciate that. They did a lacklustre episode where they hastily redid the plot of the movie Our War Game (the one where we see Omnimon/Omegamon for the first time) in like... the second episode or something like that. It kinda tells you how the series will feel.

@@Play-All-The-Games Thank you very much! It took 3 months at 10 hours per day for the actual editing of the video, not including doing the research or writing the script. Roughly one month per hour of video content, but it might take less time now that I know a little bit how to streamline the editing process a little better, and I think the more videos I make it will get better. A fair chunk of that time (10-20%?) was spent on Takara’s images, drawing them as needed and placing them in the scene. Though some of that was colour balancing because she turned out very bright when the video rendered. Prep for the video outside of scripting and research included grabbing images, video content and video game footage, which I did myself by playing and recording to go through and cut up later. It didn’t feel right taking someone else’s gameplay footage, even for the Persona, Metabots, Pokemon, Tamagotchi and Dragon Quest games. I don’t know how standard or not that is, but that’s how I did it. I also watched any movies I talked about to make sure they were relevant to the topic. So Dream of the Rarebit Fiend (on Wikipedia), the Godzilla movies, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. I also looked for any old commercials and news content and took that if I could, though admittedly I forgot to put some in, so it’ll go into the next video. The video was really hard to do but fulfilling. I wish you luck if/when you start making your own video content, and find what works for you!

I have finished it thrice over. I’ve even technically written up the entire summary of the manga, but I cut it off where I did because I felt it would be better to space it out to the time of certain parts’ releases.

I learned a ton from your research into digimon. I've always liked digimon and as I got older and better understood the concept behind digimon I have grown to love them more than pokemon, Hell they are more real even by 2021, sure them crossing into the real world is unlikely or not to happen for ages away as I grew up being into the stuff I like, digimon are basically real even if they remain within games, stories or whatever because digimon are all sentient programs that will in the digital world which happens to be connected to the net of our human world. I love the whole concept!

Ah, thank you! I'm happy to know you're enjoying it! I stopped after Frontier and picked up Savers/Data Squad about 7 years ago. I still haven't watched Fusion/Xros Wars except for that one episode. So it'll be interesting to see what I'll do with that episode when I get to it. I don't think I'll be able to remain objective when it comes to my overviews of the shows, so they'll possibly have more bias in them. But maybe I can section that off into one area of the video. Either way, I'm looking forward to watching Fusion and rewatching all the others for the future videos!
Very nice video, very insightful. You can get the easier ultis on DW1 during your first gen, just aim at something plausible like mamemon, andromon etc. avoiding the harder ones: I was able to get both a Megaseadramon from Garurumon and a Phoenixmon from a Birdramon.

But I was thinking of getting a better microphone at some point, and I am a bit embarrassed about the quality of the audio in some sections. But unless I scrapped everything, redid the audio, and then reworked the editing to match the new speed of my words, I just figured it can't be helped and I'll do my best in the next video! I'll think of getting a better mic if I ever get patrons and tuck that money away for a more expensive mic. ^^
No I haven’t. And it’s a wonder, coming out during the Video Game Crash, which iirc also affected the home computer gaming market as well? But that is interesting. I’ll definitely put that on the list to look at down the line. Since barely anyone was buying or playing games back then, and I haven’t been able to find any exact dates of release or how much it made. I see on Wikipedia there was an interview with someone saying it was a precursor to Pokemon, which while technically true makes it seem like Pokemon was in some way inspired by it. But the Commodore 64 was a huge flop in Japan so that makes it highly unlikely other than it being just another monster-themed property that existed prior to Pokemon. It really doesn’t take a genius to come up with the concept of fighting monsters. People have been interested in feral dinosaurs fighting for well over 150 years. But that’s going into the history of paleontology and there are so, SO many rabbit holes one can fall down lol

I love Digimon. It's my favorite anime and game series ❤️ We in Germany have a little Digimon Community. I miss the Chocovaders games for one of the copycats. It's also a japanese monster collecting game/franchise from Bandai. Just with "real" Monsters and Aliens. There is also a Yugioh Zero episode where the kids fight with their V-Pets. It was more of a promotion episode, because Yugioh at this moment was owned also by Bandai, before Konami buy the franchise.
Small communities are lovely. Especially if they are tight-knit and have been around a long time. Chocovaders is on the list! If you look very carefully frame by frame through the 'I likely missed a franchise or two' it's near the end! I'm interested in learning about it in a future video. ^^ It's been several years since I've seen Season 0 all the way through, so I think I might have forgotten about that! Yo. My experience with Digimon was very minimal compared to Pokemans and Yu-Gi-Oh. I only watched a few anime episodes as a kid, but I did have a damn good board game I'd play with my family based on...I guess the second season?
You should trim this video into bit size pieces, (with a length apropiate for the algorithm) and do a playlist called digimon deep dive or something, this has a a lot of information, but it's excruciating long, also the v-pets line evolutions get repetitive easily but the game reviews and promotional manga are dope as hell.

That's correct. As the Mega level wasn't invented yet, it was an ultimate in World, but when I was listing out all the digimon that got a change I was more referring to the obtainable digimon.
Yes, I apologize it’s taken so long. I made a community post a few months ago about the situation, but I don’t expect everyone to have seen it. I had a bunch of bad things happen the last year in succession of varying degrees of severity that prevented me from working on it, and then after that settled down, I began working on other projects (I’m currently participating in National Novel Writer’s Month to work on my novel). Once those are done, hopefully before January, I’ll be continuing part 2. I will say that I have 19 pages of the script already. It’s just the beginning, though, so it’ll be a lot longer than that when it’s done! Thank you for your patience and once again, I’m sorry it’s taking so long.
Having a good time with the video so far, having just gotten to the Medabots section, the games are mid...but that anime! They went for comedy and it works really well, they're fully aware how silly kids fighting with movies who who blast off live ammo and it's just sooo silly

As someone who loved the Chao Garden and his Tamagotchi as a kid and has found Next Order can scratch that itch - I really want to try World 1.
(I also want Agumon in Smash Bros to put more eyes on the V-Pet genre. Plus imagine having it evolve differently based on if you're using Zoner, Punisher, Rushdown, or Mix-Up tactics... with Numemon to punish Stall tactics. Also probably having a trend of "automated attacks" like Sonic's Homing Attack and Palutena's Auto-Reticle. Probably a Gaurd-Blocker-Defend inspired move cause that is a mechanical trend in Digimon, and some kind of burst mobility option as a nod to the Vital Bracelet.)

Fantastic video! About the start, apparently pokemon also took inspiration from Ultraseven which had "Capsule Kaiju" and thats where the original name "Capsule Monsters" came from and also likely why they changed it. Look forward to part 2 no matter how long it takes

I've been watching thousands of TH-cam videos since 2007. After watching the whole video, this has become my favorite TH-cam video, and I can certainly see myself rewatching this video again and again till part 2 comes out. Heck, I feel guilty that I watched the whole thing for free. I've learned so much about this wonderful franchise from the post-tamagotchi era to 1999 and how new rosters were added in a consistent timeline. No bias or misformation is ever spotted during my viewership which is what I fully appreciate. Plus the amount of editing involved in this passion project must have been so brutal that it's commendable that you've got this completed with eye-catching end result within 2 plus hours of the duration. I'm happy to encounter this informative video that discusses Digimon's proper history and clarification of the franchise's contemporaries, and not having to use up so much time discussing the animes (which is what most of Digimon content on YT is offering nowadays). I don't want to sound like another viewer being entitled to demand part 2, but considering how engaging this video is, take as much time as needed if you decide to continue working on the continuation of this passion project of yours. No work of art should ever be rushed and I've waited for videos that took years to complete and I can definitely do the same for this one. Any Digimon fan that's bigger than I am deserves my loyalty, but you got yourself a dedicated subscriber and a new patreon. I know it's over a year since this vid has been posted, but thank you for this video and brightening my day.
Thank you for this beautiful comment. I very much appreciate it, and I hope when I can set my computer back up and resume work that I can make the next video as informative as the last one. This year has been very rough for me with more things happening after I made the comment to the last person a month ago, but I’m sure next year will be much better and I might even be able to get two videos out. We’ll see, though I don’t want to make promises on that. And I’ll be posting up the first one cut up with some editing errors fixed up as well. The editing, not counting the script, had taken 3 months of roughly 10 hours a day with the goal of trying to release on August 1st. Even then there was a lot of things that I found during the editing process that I added in and re-recorded or recorded separately to do so. Unfortunately I don’t have a timeline on the script because I worked on that on and off long before I started editing the video itself.
I’m also happy that my research into the contemporaries was liked, as I was initially concerned people would be annoyed that I was taking so long to get to Digimon proper. I’m now also thinking at some point I’ll go into those other games and franchises and talk about them if I can. Considering the amount of games, it might be its own mini series. I had a lot of fun going down that rabbit hole when I did. As long as the video is there’s actually some topics I had to remove for time, like the TCG AND I forgot to add in the 3.5 VPet. So I’ll be adding those into the next video, for sure.

No, I’d never cancel the series, so plan to finish all the videos. While I do have a patreon set up, it just isn’t priority at the moment as a hobby channel because I have other projects I’m doing at the same time, some just as big and some aren’t related to TH-cam and I’m splitting my time equally between all of them and irl.

Great video. Digimon may very well be the first IP I have continued to care about since I first saw it (the anime started when I was five) so it's always nice to see a long form video about it. My brother had the first two Digimon World games, but didn't get particularly far in either, so it's still really weird seeing Myotismon as an ally in need of rescue! Looking forward to more!
It would have been really cool if we could have grown up with Digimon vpets being released every few months, the manga, the early console games, and then finally the anime. I think this would have made the introduction of different Digimon more impactful. The Digimon World segment made me realize how I got nowhere in the game as a kid lmao. I can't wait for part 2; this is a great video!
Yeah, like I said in my video, I really do wonder what Digimon culture over here would be like if Bandai marketed it the same way in the west as it did in Japan. Digimon only took off due to the anime despite being here longer than Pokemon. But I guess the games and anime for Pokémon coming out at the same time as each other was the double-hit to success where as Bandai USA did everything it could to keep Digimon down, intentionally or not.
I keep hearing a lot of people say they never got far in Digimon World as kids! Seeing how my cousin played games as a kid, I imagine it could be young kids, despite knowing how to read, just didn’t want to read what Digimon were saying, or they didn’t explore enough.
There is an inherent pleasure in listening to someone talk passionately about something they love.

Legitimately there’s nothing like this on TH-cam in English, chronicling the social and cultural origins of Digimon and its earliest features as a franchise. Having bought a Digimon V-Pet in roughly 1998 and played the original Digimon World on release, the extreme divergence the series and franchise would take following the release of the anime was always something of a curiosity to me. You’ve more than answered my questions, and your prose and research reflects an enormous amount of well-spent labor.

For the anime, would you recommend the English dub or original Japanese?
I grew up on the dub, but it's been a long time and I have no idea how well it holds up in terms of faithful translation (e.g. if any important character work or plot points were bizarrely cut, as a number of dubs have done in the past) or if it (mostly) improves upon the original version's writing and/or character expressiveness (acting-wise).
Thank you! Part 2 is partially written out but I'll be posting a different video I'm struggling through first, then I'll fully get started on it.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with the English dub. But I also don't adhere to strict adherence to the original Japanese like some people do. As long as the major character beats and plot points are kept in tact, I consider it a faithful dubbing.
That being said, Digimon's English dub does have some changes to it despite it's relative faithful (for the time) adaptation. Some things just can't be translated correctly for a western child audience who has no understanding of how foreign cultures work, so it's unrealistic to expect for the intent of young children to understand that they'll remain entirely intact and I'll get into that in part 2.
The overall character beats are still present, but they're dealt with in a different way depending on if characterization is changed. Sora for instance, is a lot 'meaner' in Japanese than she is in English, which comes back to bite her in Tri. after the reboot when Piyomon treats her like she treated Piyomon in Adventure. It was good character stuff. They switched her character from someone who inwardly and outwardly didn't know if she was capable of loving someone, to instinctually being kind while outwardly thinking she wasn't, which imo can have it's own interesting nuances.
The same goes to Yamato/Matt, who gained a somewhat sarcastic/snarky humour in the dub to hide his insecurities, and it culminates in Gabumon gaining those traits even during Matt's depression period because that was what was 'normal' for his partner.
Japanese culture when it comes to gender, societal roles, sibling relationships, divorce and adoption are all also very different from the west, and it wouldn't properly translate as something recognizable and relatable to western children.
As for outright cuts, I don't believe anything was outright omitted outside of blatantly inappropriate things like nudity, part of the hitchhiking scene, reference to alcohol and an 8 year old being given a gun. All things reasonably no one wants encouraged in the western world where as the Japanese have less of an issue with it for various reasons.
So ultimately for me, I think both are perfectly watchable and enjoyable for their differences and similarities. Others in the fandom are more purist and look down on the dub as being inaccurate, but I take the stance that the dub for the first season was given a lot of time and attention, even if it had some grating elements like putting voice lines where there was silence before, jokes that aged poorly/are cringe, or the unfortunate mistake of revealing a plot point before it was formally introduced.
People act like the Japanese version was some high art masterpiece while the dub is some bastardization of it. But the dub did some good work that not a lot of people acknowledge for the sake of broad-brushing the dubbing of the 90's as bad. Also, the dub took out a lot of the (literal) toilet humour, which I appreciate.
@@twilightguardian Whoa. Sounds about as, if not more, complicated than I thought it might. I appreciate the long-form answer and acknowledgement of some of the differing upsides and downsides between the two versions. I understand that no translation is perfect and cultural values will often create disparities or trickiness there.
It sounds like whichever one I go with there will be some aspects that could rub me the wrong way, and I can only hope they seldom present themselves. But it seems like I have a lot to look forward to as well, so perhaps I'll try both and see which which carries me further.

Though I have one more question, since you brought it up: If Tri is a reboot, and I only had time for one series, would you recommend it over the original, or no?
@@MisterA744 Tri. isn't a reboot. It takes place roughly 2-3 years after the events of 02 and all of the original cast are teenagers in the 15-18 range. The main theme of Tri. is that the group are transitioning out of adolescence and into adulthood. They now see the complexities of the world in a way much different than they did as children when their journey was a much more simplistic, black and white one and they struggle to navigate their roles in both wider society and as digidestined. The sequel to Tri. is Last Evolution Kizuna and 02: The Beginning with both films featuring the characters as adults. So far that seems to be the end for the original Adventure timeline.
The true reboot was Digimon Adventure: 2020, which I haven't watched much of, but I've been told it isn't very good. Much more taking the word Adventure and running it into the ground and less character work. Spectacle. With the larger budget they do interesting things with alt digivolutions, though, so I at least appreciate that. They did a lacklustre episode where they hastily redid the plot of the movie Our War Game (the one where we see Omnimon/Omegamon for the first time) in like... the second episode or something like that. It kinda tells you how the series will feel.

It took 3 months at 10 hours per day for the actual editing of the video, not including doing the research or writing the script. Roughly one month per hour of video content, but it might take less time now that I know a little bit how to streamline the editing process a little better, and I think the more videos I make it will get better.
A fair chunk of that time (10-20%?) was spent on Takara’s images, drawing them as needed and placing them in the scene. Though some of that was colour balancing because she turned out very bright when the video rendered.
Prep for the video outside of scripting and research included grabbing images, video content and video game footage, which I did myself by playing and recording to go through and cut up later. It didn’t feel right taking someone else’s gameplay footage, even for the Persona, Metabots, Pokemon, Tamagotchi and Dragon Quest games. I don’t know how standard or not that is, but that’s how I did it. I also watched any movies I talked about to make sure they were relevant to the topic. So Dream of the Rarebit Fiend (on Wikipedia), the Godzilla movies, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. I also looked for any old commercials and news content and took that if I could, though admittedly I forgot to put some in, so it’ll go into the next video.
The video was really hard to do but fulfilling. I wish you luck if/when you start making your own video content, and find what works for you!

I learned a ton from your research into digimon. I've always liked digimon and as I got older and better understood the concept behind digimon I have grown to love them more than pokemon, Hell they are more real even by 2021, sure them crossing into the real world is unlikely or not to happen for ages away as I grew up being into the stuff I like, digimon are basically real even if they remain within games, stories or whatever because digimon are all sentient programs that will in the digital world which happens to be connected to the net of our human world. I love the whole concept!

I stopped after Frontier and picked up Savers/Data Squad about 7 years ago. I still haven't watched Fusion/Xros Wars except for that one episode. So it'll be interesting to see what I'll do with that episode when I get to it. I don't think I'll be able to remain objective when it comes to my overviews of the shows, so they'll possibly have more bias in them. But maybe I can section that off into one area of the video. Either way, I'm looking forward to watching Fusion and rewatching all the others for the future videos!

You can get the easier ultis on DW1 during your first gen, just aim at something plausible like mamemon, andromon etc. avoiding the harder ones: I was able to get both a Megaseadramon from Garurumon and a Phoenixmon from a Birdramon.

This microphone was gifted to me by my podcast host, so I didn't get to choose what kind of mic I got. But I was thinking of getting a better microphone at some point, and I am a bit embarrassed about the quality of the audio in some sections. But unless I scrapped everything, redid the audio, and then reworked the editing to match the new speed of my words, I just figured it can't be helped and I'll do my best in the next video!
I'll think of getting a better mic if I ever get patrons and tuck that money away for a more expensive mic. ^^

No I haven’t. And it’s a wonder, coming out during the Video Game Crash, which iirc also affected the home computer gaming market as well? But that is interesting. I’ll definitely put that on the list to look at down the line. Since barely anyone was buying or playing games back then, and I haven’t been able to find any exact dates of release or how much it made.
I see on Wikipedia there was an interview with someone saying it was a precursor to Pokemon, which while technically true makes it seem like Pokemon was in some way inspired by it. But the Commodore 64 was a huge flop in Japan so that makes it highly unlikely other than it being just another monster-themed property that existed prior to Pokemon.
It really doesn’t take a genius to come up with the concept of fighting monsters. People have been interested in feral dinosaurs fighting for well over 150 years. But that’s going into the history of paleontology and there are so, SO many rabbit holes one can fall down lol

We in Germany have a little Digimon Community.
I miss the Chocovaders games for one of the copycats. It's also a japanese monster collecting game/franchise from Bandai. Just with "real" Monsters and Aliens.
There is also a Yugioh Zero episode where the kids fight with their V-Pets. It was more of a promotion episode, because Yugioh at this moment was owned also by Bandai, before Konami buy the franchise.
Small communities are lovely. Especially if they are tight-knit and have been around a long time.
Chocovaders is on the list! If you look very carefully frame by frame through the 'I likely missed a franchise or two' it's near the end! I'm interested in learning about it in a future video. ^^

My experience with Digimon was very minimal compared to Pokemans and Yu-Gi-Oh. I only watched a few anime episodes as a kid, but I did have a damn good board game I'd play with my family based on...I guess the second season?

You should trim this video into bit size pieces, (with a length apropiate for the algorithm) and do a playlist called digimon deep dive or something, this has a a lot of information, but it's excruciating long, also the v-pets line evolutions get repetitive easily but the game reviews and promotional manga are dope as hell.
As it is, this is planned as a 10-11 part series. I’ve already cut it into pieces and already made a playlist for the Deep Dive series. I’m sorry if you feel it is too long, but I am sure that TH-cam remembers your place in a given video if you need to come back later to finish it. But thank you for the feedback, I do appreciate it and may consider breaking it up into smaller pieces once I’m done with the series and I can better look at it as a whole.

That's correct. As the Mega level wasn't invented yet, it was an ultimate in World, but when I was listing out all the digimon that got a change I was more referring to the obtainable digimon.

Yes, I apologize it’s taken so long. I made a community post a few months ago about the situation, but I don’t expect everyone to have seen it. I had a bunch of bad things happen the last year in succession of varying degrees of severity that prevented me from working on it, and then after that settled down, I began working on other projects (I’m currently participating in National Novel Writer’s Month to work on my novel). Once those are done, hopefully before January, I’ll be continuing part 2.
I will say that I have 19 pages of the script already. It’s just the beginning, though, so it’ll be a lot longer than that when it’s done! Thank you for your patience and once again, I’m sorry it’s taking so long.

Why I see this digimon content just now?
Having a good time with the video so far, having just gotten to the Medabots section, the games are mid...but that anime! They went for comedy and it works really well, they're fully aware how silly kids fighting with movies who who blast off live ammo and it's just sooo silly

i adored the Magi Nation GBA game and card game, didn't watch the show but from what i've seen it's not the best adaptation though i am sad it died since it had a chance to save the franchise for a second there. anyway, just happily surprised to see it represented here
