I'm just a guitarist looking to make a few improvements in my bass playing for recording stuff. My initial target is to just get clean at what Mark calls slow (8:18). The advice on ghost notes generally being used to lead into fretted notes is the kind of little nugget of wisdom I watch his videos for. 👍

This is one of the coolest slap bass riffs I have ever heard and the sound is just sick! Never heard distorted bass slapping before. Can you please tell how you achieve that kind of sound?
Also subscribed to your channel, for me so far the best bass channel on TH-cam. Love to learn more with your content. Cheers!

Just starting this I can already feel that it'll take some time to maintain stamina through it all so seems like it's on point!

Thanks. That said, I’ve got a ton of slap grooves like this on the channel and the slap course at the site has about 50 of them.

Gnarly tone!! Your strings must be fairly low?

This is great. Thank you mark. I didn’t even know about left hand slap lol, I’m embarrassed

You can get nice percussive triples going with a right hand pop, left hand slap, right thumb slap.

Ha, I played bass for years and had no idea what was going on with bands like Primus until I started watching these videos and realised how much the left hand was doing. Changes everything, right? 😂

Important to emphasize using two fingers over two strings for the ghost note. I tried this a few years ago and kept getting hammer ons because just my pinky was hitting the bottom E 5 th fret.

Just what I’ve been needing. Another LESSON I CANT FIND… I need to learn how to apply slap patterns to a rhythm or drum loop. I hope you see this cuz you’re a great teacher.

Today's riff is written specifically for this lesson and allows you to practice the basic techniques of both slapping and popping .

with that mindset you’re probably right.
practice slow and intentional to be as accurate as you can. your brain and your muscles WILL make the connection and you WILL improve… that’s a fact. The ‘secret sauce’ is to not doubt the process, and don’t rush it.
