Very much appreciate the no nonsense explanation of slap here. No obnoxious showy licks while you do it. I’d love an even more detailed description of how to slap from your point of view. Exactly where the thumb is hitting the string, wrist vs forearm motion. All TH-cam bass lessons preach a vastly different slap style. You broke every rule the previous guy insisted on, and he did the opposite of what I saw before him. It’s very confusing and frustrating. No idea who to believe about anything.
I hear you. The truth is there are no exact rules. There can’t be: too many great bass players break these so called rules. As long as there’s a) no pain, and b) a good, desirable sound you can do anything. That’s the way I think about technique anyway. I will have a slap lesson soon…
I know this is older, but I'm just starting to learn slap. My question is, when your thumb bounces off the string, should the string hit the fretboard?? I can't seem to find the answer. Thanks!
Thanks Dan. Just a quick question, where can I download the pdf and backing track for this lesson? Scrolled down and subscribed to the mailing list still can't find it. Thanks
Thanks Dan

The string needs to vibrate otherwise it won’t sound. So it doesn’t really hit the fretboard. If it did, it wouldn’t make a sound.
Thank you!
How do I sign up for your tutorial do you have a link to sign up 🙏
If you go to my site you’ll see all my free bass lessons there as well as my paid courses which dive deeper into subjects.
Thanks Dan.

Круто! 👍 А у меня слэп не получается😭
You can with time and practice!
Sell your other bases Dan you're always on the Ibanez 💰
I use them for sessions… my Ibanez is my ‘TH-cam’ bass.
Lol. Man's said, "Nah fam, can't do that. Them basses are income producing assets, my friend. Can't be selling my professional grade tools." 😂😂😂
