I don’t hate new model. It look cool but I honestly love and prefers old design more. There just something awe inspiring with the spacedock from TOS movie.

Unless they change it, that Stardock should still be all Fleet docks and Starbase 4 if I recall. I don't play on the test server so I have no idea, but I can't see them changing all of these.

Looks great. I hope there will be interesting story mission where old spacedock will be damaged/destroyed and then we will get this new one as replacement like they did it before when they reworked ground map.
The old one should just be moved to athan prime for the starship museum, which is where several hero ships should be permanently placed(though STO being non canon gives it some liberties to not include every hero ship)
Nick Duguid (Tumerboy) has been talking about the station on BlueSky. He says there's not enough bandwith to make this part of a story mission, so it's simply a Quality-of-Life type upgrade. Once it's live on Holodeck, it's just there, is how I interpret that.

It would be nice if perhaps next time we get the star trek day thing we have that station as the place to go, with all the hero ships, including those present in Picard, with the addition of the Enterprise B and C which have been notably absent for some reason. Plus they could have the G finally appear too, we could even get a PvE based on the earth battle, but a unique one that would have two teams in the same overall instance just entirely different combat regions. One team would be engaging the assimilated fleet and protecting the starbase, the other would be battling through the borg cube to destroy the core at the center, the defense team would have to hold out and keep earth safe long enough for the attacking team to successfully destroy the borg ship. A separate ground PvE inside the cube and inside the starbase with a similar mechanic could also be a thing, with dynamic events going on around the teams reflecting the battles going on elsewhere, the starbase team would be very aware of the battle outside and be able to look out at the fleet attacking and see the Titan A and ships that would be dependant on whatever the players in the starbase had all flying around in combat. The borg cube team would have slightly less intensity but at the end would have their ship show up above them to beam them up and fly out like the enterprise D did.
You’d think that the capital of a mature space civilization would have far more orbital stations. All they need to do is put background stations in for the immersion.

Using that scale, Sol Station/new ESD actually came in *under* the size of the current ESD station. They roughly doubled it to at least match the height of "ESD I" (as he's calling the currently-on-Holodeck ESD station).
im guessing the change will happen sometime next year. in the prime verse it became starfleet museum, its probable ours wont have such a peaceful retirement
I'm glad this is happening, been hoping for it since we saw the new one in Picard, only issue I have is that it seems smaller than it should be, the one in Picard had a massive fleet engaging it and it dwarfed that fleet. Also if earth gets attacked again going forward I hope they plan on letting this ESD actually fight, if it can take on a fleet for hours under constant attack then it should be able to defend itself from the groups of random enemies we deal with from time to time. Sad however to see the interior is unchanged, was hoping we'd get an interior that made more sense rather than the massive empty room we have currently, combined with oddly placed sickbays and a corridor that is entirely pointless

Long story short, though, they didn’t have official dimensions, so they based their original size on the scene where the Enterprise-F left Spacedock. They found it was actually a *lot* smaller than what he’s terming “ESD I” (the current one on Holodeck), so they doubled the size so it’s at least as tall as “ESD I.” Personally, I think some of the feeling is due to the new model for Earth, which Tumerboy says is a full globe now (so large,it messed with the old UGC “basement”, which he deleted, which he didn’t realize until later was connected to the doors and their interacts).
Ah, Probert Station. I wouldnt be surprised if when the anniversary comes we get Frontier Day since the reason why Cryptic seem reluctant to replace ESD was there is a damaged model of the station used in a mission as it starts to break apart, considering Probert Station suffers damage during the attack they likely also created a damaged model so it can be used for that mission. As for ESD, they can just use it as the Fleet Museum and be accessible to all factions, the model is showing its age ... I also hope considering the new Earth model they start thinking about properly scale stations instead of being stuck with notions as "the players must be able to see the station" that quit frankly, never made sense to me.

So I'm guessing in the next story mission the various Borg team up and finally destroy ESD for this to get a full redo like that. Looks great artwise though so the team did a great job on it.
Well, it should have had an overhaul after the Undine came close to destroying it, and the Iconians full assault on it. I am surprised it did not get this sooner. I get that it is possible that the ESD total rebuild definitely happened after Seedea Base got totally destroyed in a warp breach core breach by J'Ula's number 1 using a computer virus. That event alone would freak out the Federation Council.
Not sure if I like this one better than the iconic old one but of course it is the 25. century, something new is to be expected. One last gift from Cryptic? At least the idea?
Huh. Neat. I hope we get to see it in combat. The current ESD is kinda a wuss, with getting de-rezzed (it got better) without even firing a shot last we saw it in a mission, but Picard ESD took on the entire Federation fleet there for Fleet Day for quite a bit before falling.
Would be cool or funny that there's a explanation to the change like "we've been attacked by end game threat for like 7 times in 5 years so starfleet decide to finally upgrade ESD"
seems a bit small? can a Connie III fit through those main doors? that's the only size reference we had in the show and it doesn't look like it'd fit into this version

Curious to see if they went back and changed the station in the other missions featuring it getting messed up. Though this station tanked so much damage that it did in the show that it would seem like it had a downgrade

I don't think they will change the interior of ESD anytime soon. there are too many story missions using that map. small changes maybe but nothing major. on the other hand there are still missions available that use the old DS9 map even though that got an overhaul years ago
Help!!! How can you replace such a perfectly designed model as the ESD, which we have known since Star Trek III, with such a clunky thing...? For example, what are the toothpicks under the five secondary domes and all the hula hoops for? Like the fifth wheel on a wagon... Will we at least see the old spacedock design preserved, for example as a revamp of Sierra or the starbase at Vulcan?
I wonder if this base will be just for the invasion event they are doing on Monday, or if its gonna be transfered over to holodeck too , i like the old one so i dont want to see this on holodeck
I can't agree that this is a good change. It's not bad in its own right, but I much prefer the original Spacedock. This looks too small, and more like some deep space station or smaller outpost. It feels like that just decided to change it for the sake of changing it, and that is never a good idea. Now, if there was an in-game, in-story reason that would be something else; such as the old Spacedock being destroyed and this was build as a replacement, as fast as possible.
All I can think about right now is....currently it takes 3-5 minutes on XBox Series X to load into Sol system space. I'm afraid what it will be like afterwards.. I mean the new design looks great but I really don't understand how they can spend time on that while we get maybe 1-2 space TFOs per year. the last place in the game where you wanna be is sol system space and the inside of the station still looks the same. That's the same nonsense as reworking the Captain's Table. The house is burning and they're making the bad. I don't even know. It really sucks to always be the 'negative guy' but it's impossible to say anything positive about this considering the state of the game.
Some missing parts so obviously a WIP but I hope there is a lot more to be done here. The model itself is more angular than what we saw in PIC S3 and missing several lighting effects. The material they are using really looks wrong, in PIC S3 it's exterior looked pretty much identical to TMP ESD. But maybe some of that is lighting and that honestly is my biggest problem with the new map, this is in space yet has sunset like lighting. That's not how lighting works in space and just makes the Earth look dusty and yellow vs the blue marble it is. I like that Earth is a bigger but also the night time lights look much worse. Whole map lighting needs to change to be more cooler vs warm lighting. Honestly I was hoping they wouldn't do this though. I love TMP ESD and we already have missions with it in STO and this just feels like another 'lets copy picard' thing that is just unnecessary since STO is it's own timeline. Since it's happening though I only hope that we get a Fleet Museum map with the TMP spacedock as well. Interior wise I like the updated docking bay, old one definitely showed its age. Brighter lighting is a nice plus. Also great to see the Typhoon and other modern ships there. I do kinda wish they swapped out the Protostar though. I miss when every new ship release it got updated but IMO they should put an Odyssey there as the permanent option, or maybe the Exeter. Something STO original and not a gamble ship.
FINALLY! I’ve been asking for an updated Earth model for years. The fact my ship was the size of the UK and France combined really ruined the immersion for me when in orbit 😅
As an aside, anyone currently knowledgeable about time lag on dilithium to zen exchange been 5 days now, while 2 years ago, my exchange log shows it occurring within a day. All while 13 million zen available at my asking price and that seems to indicate about 500k+ zen at price was added to exchange in same time period?
I think I to prefer the older design, this looks very concretey like something the Empire would build, the blue glows and lights on the old model made it look much more luxurious/civilian. It's like comparing a modern super cruise to a modern naval destroyer. That said I do appreciate the update to the model so even if I prefer the older one its nice to have an updated one with more detail even if its not my favourite design. Love the small changes to the interior too and of course the new Earth model is miles better than then old one. Looking forward to seeing this in the game

To me, STO's exterior depiction of PIC's ESD seems way smaller than it should, even compared to the 'Search for Spock'/TNG Earth Space Dock.
"My Star Treks" were TNG and the Movies with the original series cast, I will miss the Earth Space Dock from that era.

ESD Exterior has seen at least 3 versions total, yes: Launch Day ESD; TMP-/TNG-style ESD; and now Picard-style Sol Station/Probert Station/ESD.

Apart from looking dumpy. The outriggers really messes with the elegance of the old ESD. It needs to be a LOT longer to balance the outrigger pods.

Some missing parts so obviously a WIP but I hope there is a lot more to be done here. The model itself is more angular than what we saw in PIC S3 and missing several lighting effects. The material they are using really looks wrong, in PIC S3 it's exterior looked pretty much identical to TMP ESD.
But maybe some of that is lighting and that honestly is my biggest problem with the new map, this is in space yet has sunset like lighting. That's not how lighting works in space and just makes the Earth look dusty and yellow vs the blue marble it is. I like that Earth is a bigger but also the night time lights look much worse. Whole map lighting needs to change to be more cooler vs warm lighting.
Honestly I was hoping they wouldn't do this though. I love TMP ESD and we already have missions with it in STO and this just feels like another 'lets copy picard' thing that is just unnecessary since STO is it's own timeline. Since it's happening though I only hope that we get a Fleet Museum map with the TMP spacedock as well.
Interior wise I like the updated docking bay, old one definitely showed its age. Brighter lighting is a nice plus. Also great to see the Typhoon and other modern ships there. I do kinda wish they swapped out the Protostar though. I miss when every new ship release it got updated but IMO they should put an Odyssey there as the permanent option, or maybe the Exeter. Something STO original and not a gamble ship.
we won't be seeing this for another 3-4 months, I doubt this is the finished version of the map
FINALLY! I’ve been asking for an updated Earth model for years. The fact my ship was the size of the UK and France combined really ruined the immersion for me when in orbit 😅

As an aside, anyone currently knowledgeable about time lag on dilithium to zen exchange been 5 days now, while 2 years ago, my exchange log shows it occurring within a day. All while 13 million zen available at my asking price and that seems to indicate about 500k+ zen at price was added to exchange in same time period?
With the current backlog you're now looking at around 2 months for an order to go through that is posted today.

I think I to prefer the older design, this looks very concretey like something the Empire would build, the blue glows and lights on the old model made it look much more luxurious/civilian. It's like comparing a modern super cruise to a modern naval destroyer. That said I do appreciate the update to the model so even if I prefer the older one its nice to have an updated one with more detail even if its not my favourite design. Love the small changes to the interior too and of course the new Earth model is miles better than then old one. Looking forward to seeing this in the game

No, I think it was disabled, and targetted specifically for the fact it was generating the planetary defense shield grid.
That's neat, I never thought they'd actually do that. I always liked the model they used for the fleet starbase and thought they should've used that.
