I wish they'd update Drozana station, especially the interiors. With so many locations, including most ship interiors, basically stuck in 2010 I feel as though time and resources could be better spent.
Yeah, Mckinely has been in the Sol System since the game launched. It's very high up in the map. An easy way to find it is to find Alaska on Earth, Mckinely should be near by (though obviously that's changing sometime in the future.).
I would like to see them advance the Romulan systems infrastructure some. Give them a proper city and not a construction site to congregate in. Maybe some stations or shipyards in orbit.
@@britishgamerni It seems like they might well be doing that as the lifetimer hub has been getting fiddled with recently, now this. We might be getting other facelifts too.
I like how Earth is now properly scaled and rotates. I'm not sure how feasible it would be, but if they could somehow tie the Earth's rotation to a server-based clock, so it always shows the accurate rotation for when you're playing, it would be epic! Little disappointed the San Francisco yards are no longer available, but at least there's still drydocks close to the station - hopefully they'll add some of the flatter Nemesis style docks back in, since those are generally better for screenshots. Very much looking forward to seeing the new model more fully completed with all the textures and VFX in place. I'd seen a few screenshots on Bluesky showing off some of the changes to the interior, but I didn't know they'd also put the new Earth model out the window too. Once this goes live on the main server, I'm probably going to spend a whole day just standing in Quinn's office staring at Earth.
I was wondering if this change was coming. STO's been feeling a bit alternate universe since Picard, what with the Enterprise F still kicking around and all, so it's interesting to see how far they'll try and realign the game to the prime timeline. I'm gonna miss the old ESD though. It's an icon of the franchise, which is why it got swapped in from the first model in the first place, but at least it had a heck of a run.
well, that and the original model didn't even look federation. in Picard ESD was towed away to become a new fleet museum, so hopefully that's something we'll get access to too.
@@SaintDaisley Yeah... making the Shipyard off-planet, while logistically makes sense, was a BAD idea from a gameplay perspective. For a mostly militaristic species, their organization is really crap.
Given the number of older ships that have been getting updated over the years, it's nice to see ESD finally getting the same treatment because the resolution has been poor for so long (the same thing can be said for K-7, Drozana, and 39-Sierra). I'm not surprised the devs are going with the Picard version and am perfectly fine with the decision. I'm going to miss being able fly my ship in an orbit around Earth, however, because that was fun to do sometimes. I'm kinda mixed about having the Earth rotate under ESD because my head-canon has always been that ESD was in geostationary orbit over the UFP headquarters in France (per a scene in ST-VI where the Eiffel Tower can be seen outside the President's window). The ship docks in the distance I always assumed to be the San Francisco shipyards where the TOS Enterprise and refit were built (according to their dedication plaques). Of course, everything could have been moved by the 24th/25th Century.
with the number of characters that can be on the station at any one time, that might be pushing the servers past the breaking point, but DS9 updates for you, based on what stories you've completed, by having certain NPC's set to visible or hidden, so it isn't entirely impossible. That said the new ESD has 5 or 6 hangars now, so... Just hope we can still dock by flying through the doors.
TLDR: I dislike the ESD design as it currently is on Tribble. It appears to be a step backwards both in scale and in-universe design. The station is a solid design for a smaller star base, but inadequate to be ESD. A hybrid of the live and test designs might make more sense as a technological step forward. Earth on Tribble currently looks too brown, but I love that it is planned to rotate. Hopefully they can fix the colors on it and if so, it should be amazing. *** So, Earth doesn't really match what we've seen in the shows or current IRL pictures. I's too brown :( It looks more like a slightly terraformed Mars, or Vulcan, maybe. I like that they've got it rotating though. That's a nice touch. If they can fix the color design, chef's kiss. As for ESD, I'm really not digging it. I'm probably in the minority but I didn't watch Picard so I have no emotional attachment to that design. It is clearly Trek, and a solid Federation design, but feels a step backwards from our current ESD. It's WAY too small compared to the current ESD. It feels like it's 1/3 to 1/2 the size it should be, compared to what we have now. The scale I think is what makes it feel like a step backwards. For example, it's about half (maybe less) the vertical length of the live ESD, and the docking bay doors are smaller. It's more... stubby than current ESD, so I think that is throwing me off as well. In STO cannon, the events of Picard S3 (as I understand it, please correct me if I'm wrong) happened before our current time in 2411. Since the undine destroyed ESD, and we just rebuilt it with the live version in the beginning of 2410, it seems odd to go back to a design that predates our current ESD, as well as the previous STO launch version, and call that the "new" ESD. TBH, what I'd like to see is more of a hybrid of what's on Tribble merged with our current ESD. Keep the live scale, and add on the outrigger pods and more greebles. Maybe change the color palate/skin of the station to match the current Odyssey 7a material? They've got the grey down pretty well, but could add the black armor sections as well. This could show an upgrade in the stations hull plating/armor and be a touchstone to the current generation of ships in STO. I really do like the cool blue grey of ESD on live though... I may be a grumpy old man who's set in his ways, but I loved the ESD revamp we got when the Undine destroyed the original version. Likewise, when the Odyssey won the design the next Enterprise contest, I wasn't a fan of the concept art that Adam Ihle delivered, but I fell in love with the Odyssey when I saw the finished design, and that helped me understand the concept art better. It's not like I am close minded about new designs. I mostly dislike what's currently on tribble because the scale feels far too small compared to the live server, and it feels like a step backwards in design, both in-universe and in relation to the current design. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If you made it this far, thanks for reading my long winded rambling. 😅
I wonder if some of the glitchy interior things means they are also updating those objects in some way. Glad they didn't massively change the functional areas though, really don't want to have to learn ESD 3.0 vendor placements, lol.
Funny thing to note, when you break outside the ground ESD, you can actually see a random Typhoon class just hanging around, out of view. I'm really happy this is happening, although this does open up the possibility of maybe Qonos or New Romulus getting revamped?
Klingons are traditionalists, so I'm not sure there's an impetus for updating First City. Mol'Rihan, on the other paw, is supposed to be under construction, so a revamp of that (perhaps even including the ability to visit the Reman quarter, even if there's nothing to do there) would make sense.
@@Shinzon23 there are, in some ways, too many social zones, with not enough reason for us to linger at any one over another, BUT they have been fiddling with the table recently, so whilst I won't hold my breath...
Is the interior still the 1/4 saucer type thing as the current ESD? Or did they go back to the old full saucer level like, I dunno how many years ago? Haven't been on the test server in years.
I don't really like Probert station.... Didn't like it in Picard S3 either... It feels like a step backwards in design aesthetic and design era as the original ESD from Search for Spock just has a more flowing, ellegant design. This is supposed to be a Post TNG/DS9/VOY facility, and it just feels like more of the same old, just repackaged and super-sized... Its like they took the original ESD, resized and distorted the components and added bits on just to say it's a bigger model... The angle of the main docking saucer really grinds my gears from an aesthetic sense... Make it bigger and wider, but don't increase the angle like that. Then there's the totally un-connected, floating rings, particularly where the outrigger arms extend from that do not merge with the main structure. The textures also don't seem to be the appropriate scale to the intended size of the facility. This is just, Meh.... Starfleet's designs are supposed to be more artistic.... Not on the STO team's part, they're just porting it from Picard, but rather on the Picards S3 design team. I understand budget and time constraints required compromises like this. I really liked S3, but this design offended my aesthetic sense... I would have preferred a STO 2409 type starbase styling, like from the Starbase 24 design family in STO, or even the fleet starbase design, but in the basic ESD configuration upscaled and uprezzed, proportionally bigger main saucer, maybe even a second smaller docking saucer and then they could have added on the arms with mini-docking sacuers (whatever architectural term would apply to the arms and modules, not sure). Make it something that feels like an evolution instead of a kitbash! Which would look era appropriate for the end of the 24th, beginning of the 25th century. Not a call back to the 23rd Century from TMP... ... And that's kind of a rehash of my thoughts that can also apply to the re-imagined Titan. -sigh- I really wish we had gotten to see Riker's Luna-class USS Titan, or a refit of it... Instead of slight retool of the Shangri La....
Artistic differences are so individual 😂 I actually liked the immense class😂 STO has so much potential but it’s just being milked for what it’s worth 😢 well at least it’s still alive and that gives the possibility of revival.❤
I want to say that while the new Earth model will take some getting used to - mainly because it isn't as bright blue as I imagine it in my mind - the actual textures and cloud details are just phenomenal. But more importantly, my jaw dropped seeing the new ESD. It looks gorgeous and will look even better once it's surrounded by ships. Seeing the Sagan in the interior too almost made me want to cry, it warmed my heart so much seeing her get the spotlight a little bit. I obviously don't know when this is going up, but the fact that they've put so much work into these recent remasters makes me really hopeful for the future of the game ☺
The original ESD is not Starbase 24. The exterior was completely different (original ESD's model was never reused outside the Foundry). Elements of the interior were used, but that's just because that's how environment kits works, it's the same reason why the Enterprise-F's interior looks similar to the Jupiter Station interior, its a kit that was designed to be modular.
What is going to be interesting is once they release the updated ESD, will they introduce Aethan Prime with the Fleet Museum (using the old ESD model)?
Tumor Boy has already confirmed that there are no current plans to add Athan Prime to the game, but did say it wasn't outside the realm of possibilities. Frankly, if they ever to add the Fleet Museum, they'll likely want to remake that too so the station us up to more modern visual standards. The current ESD model is over a decade old, after all.
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I liked the shroom I'm happy were getting it but I loved it when they gave us the cannon shroom station for ESD felt right now not going to lie I would love to see the fleet museum added now.
new exterior looks great. I get why they only change minor details for the interior. too many missions involved with the ESD map i guess The question is if it's only ESD that changed or are there changes (planed) for the academy as well? obviously I'm not expecting you to know the answer to that
The space station interiors are a definite draw for players. The redo of DS9 is one of the things that brought me back as a regular player. More areas and revamps like this will keep the game going. Places to update like star base 24, drozanna, and k17 are desperately needed!
I loved the TNG / DS9 / VOY aesthetics. Those series were always optimistic, showed what humanity could be, and was always uplifting. Picard and Discovery seemed so dark and hopeless for our future, I just would like to keep the space station from the Shatner movies, from TNG and that era. Please don't update it, at least externally.
Meh I like the old one.... Naw for real when they get it updated and textures all together its gonna look amazing. Earth looks wonderful too. I mean it is about time for an update and it kinda falls in line now with the picard timeline.
It looks a bit overloaded and squished imo. Maybe extend the shaft a bit more downwarts to declutter it and make it more clean looking. But yeah, it's good and about time that ESD gets an Update.
Pffffff Current is 100000000 times better. This Station w Gonna remind me tha they f**** Oddysy class and hole Star Trek franchise. Good TNG space dock period. Also 100$ that when they releas it would be so badly optimised so for next week everyone had to transfer to DS9
I wish we would get starship interior decks not the simple CHASIM tunnels we have right now maybee even if they feel generous a way to customize three different decks
They really need to work on getting the scale correct. It's not nearly big enough. It's a shame the game doesn't have a bigger budget. A graphics revamp would really bump it's popularity a ton.
They scaled it relative to the size of the Odyssey class (since you clearly see Odyssey pass through the docking bay doors in the show) and actually had to scale it up from that.
Updated visual.. appreciated but superficial. Hope they would fix the convoluted unreliable combat UI on Xbox, instead of looks. Spending most my time figuring what's not recognized, usually half my consoles & abilities doesn't trigger in tfo. It's getting annoyingly frustrating in pug elite, like Korfez.. And yes, regardless countless times I try to minimize this issue, it's on any toon, any built or any ships.
Hmm dont know what to think, looks good but i like the original Spacedock. Any way i think they could spend more time on fixing bugs etc. and not on this :)
I personally do like this design but ESD is just so dang iconic it’s hard to justify its change especially since alot of the other elements from Picard were not added due to them conflicting. Also far too small
The outrigger modules make it look too dumpy now. it need to be a lot longer, to balance out the outriggers. Not that this will happens. As they HAVE to copy Picard. As out ESD has been smashed at least twice, Would could have a different design...but we wont.
Enviroment Artist Nick Duguid said on BlueSky that while it would technically be possible, as the old ESD model does still exist in the files, they don't currently have any plans to add the Athan Prime museum.
Eh, more stuff to have to load. Cant say Id want this, Id rather have simple visual updates. Maybe banners? some other mini stations off somewhere you can go fly to. I really dont like a huge "visual" redesign like this, I simply just really dislike "visual" areas. Most of ESD is obviously not accessible, itd clearly require way more processing and programing and lotsa stuff. However just adding more .......things that you never would get to see inside of? Just lame imo, Id want to go explore it. It would be neat if they did something with the extenstion....pod saucer whatevers, to allow players to go to them. Maybe as like event HQ areas like how Q has winter wonderland n summer has Risa. A neat little alternate launching area for RA events n such that could have maps n holograms or something pertaining to the event its linked to.
ugly as hellbthus station. I hate it. the ine right now looks like the series andbthus was good. if this one comes I will double consider to spent more money in this game. I mean as additional DS station ... ok but NOT!!! ESD.
I am always in such a rush with the all the alts I have been running. I should go through the current ESD before it's erased for new trek. At least this does not look like as much of an abomination as some of the stuff they have added in recent years. Not disrespecting the visual effects designers or their skills. But a beautiful sculpture made out of poop is still poop no matter how pretty it may be or how much turd polish they put on it.
STO announced that they're a differing timeline after PIC s3 - the split is in 2402, where the Odyssey-class Ent-F was decommissioned and the Connie III-class Titan-A was recommissioned as USS _Enterprise_ NCC-1701-G, while in the STO timeline the Odyssey stayed in service and the Ent-F was refitted as a Yorktown-class in 2410 while retaining the NCC-1701-F registry. Prime timeline can now continue (hopefully) with Terry Matalas' idea for _Star Trek: Legacy,_ being the continued adventures of the Ent-G under the command of Capt. Seven, while STO has its own adventures on its own timeline.
@@DeaconBlues117 Still feels like a top down decision from corporate. Delta Quadrant, Iaconian War, Measure of Morality will need a rewrite just to fit Seven. Klingon War, Borg Advance, and the New Romulus arc need rewrites to fit the new timeline, and how does Sela fit into it? The amount of story and published work being about to change to be welded onto Picard is a tragedy. We are probably going to get a year of retcons and rewrites to match Picard.
@@gmradio2436 We don't need to match PIC. STO is a divergent timeline, meaning that there's no need to alter the game to match the shows. The Prime timeline is its own thing now.
@@DeaconBlues117 I am not saying we need to have STO match Picard, I am saying some mid-level pencil pusher is mandating it. I prefer STO being its own thing.
It feels like a step backwards in evolution. I mean we fought a decisive battle for the sol system and now it feels like the current ESD is being scrapped. I like the TOS elements of the Picard version, but at least give us a story as to why ESD had to renovate again.
That's alot of missions they'll have to edit just to add this station, I still prefer the spacedock starbase and it shall be missed though the new earth design looks perfect
I very like the new Space Dock from Picard, at least with this new tactical pods, but I must say, that the Space Dock from now has a very good graphic model with excellent windows, like the recreation of the Odyssey-class.
I don't like it! , it looks shitty like the Picard show was; I'm glad that show finished all it did a rehash of some Star Trek movies it's not brilliant it's very lazy and the Star base it's just a copy of Star Trek Timeline and variations discovery star base again not brilliant but very lazy!!

Instead of slight retool of the Shangri La....
we do see Riker's USS Titan in Lower decks, through it was early on.
Artistic differences are so individual 😂 I actually liked the immense class😂
STO has so much potential but it’s just being milked for what it’s worth 😢 well at least it’s still alive and that gives the possibility of revival.❤
Again? They should really put some efford into the other home worlds instead ESD over and over again.

Worf: Little?
I noticed that they already re did the weird anomaly in ESD
It's cool we're getting an update but og ESD will always hold a special place in my heart.
This is the one thing I hope they would have brought over from Piccard season 3. Kudos.
I want to fight that battle of the space dock in Picard season 3
I'm digging it. Interesting how ESD was updated 10 years prior as well.
I remember the original ESD is now SB24, down to the interior
The original ESD is not Starbase 24. The exterior was completely different (original ESD's model was never reused outside the Foundry). Elements of the interior were used, but that's just because that's how environment kits works, it's the same reason why the Enterprise-F's interior looks similar to the Jupiter Station interior, its a kit that was designed to be modular.
@@Stu1701 I meant the interior, not the exterior.
I know textures are reused all the time, but the old ESD textures are nearly identical as SB24’s
Test server stress test, you say. Monitor pet build incoming (i can summon 50+ pets with the build)
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
I liked the shroom I'm happy were getting it but I loved it when they gave us the cannon shroom station for ESD felt right now not going to lie I would love to see the fleet museum added now.
I still hope that they finally update the window model on the disco constitution class, so that we can get the window style from strange new worlds
Wonder if they’ll update the captains table then?
Did they fix the lighting on ESD? IT looks better on test.
I've never bothered with Tribble, not enough hours in the day to look after all my toons. I have to say, the map upgrades looks great!
I wonder if they've fixed the malfunctioning environmental controls in ESD that caused a blizzard to form inside of it.
So this will be the 3 rd update to Earth space dock STO had ( correct? ) since I remember it before the FTP.
Stu: look its that one scene from picard!
Meaning Enterprise-F reties also for Stu😢
never
I’m ok with the change
Does this mean they are moving the old ESD to be the fleet museum?
Hope they update K7 and Drozana
new exterior looks great.
I get why they only change minor details for the interior. too many missions involved with the ESD map i guess
The question is if it's only ESD that changed or are there changes (planed) for the academy as well?
obviously I'm not expecting you to know the answer to that
It's grey.
The space station interiors are a definite draw for players. The redo of DS9 is one of the things that brought me back as a regular player. More areas and revamps like this will keep the game going. Places to update like star base 24, drozanna, and k17 are desperately needed!
The first ESD was comical. Interior doors were like 50 feet tall.
Id like to see the characters revamped completely to look like real people to move the game into 2024/25 its been a long time coming
So let's replace an iconic, instantly recognised as Star Trek space station, for generic could be from anywhere station for reasons. Good job!
Meh I like the old one.... Naw for real when they get it updated and textures all together its gonna look amazing. Earth looks wonderful too. I mean it is about time for an update and it kinda falls in line now with the picard timeline.
I hope the Spacedock keep getting update hopefully more defense.
Look`s great, wish it would be bigger thou ^-^
Totally unneccessary imo.
ESD was fine as it was.
Other locations desperately need an update, like K7, or Drozana or the old ship interiors.
ESD was not fine. The model is over a decade old.
@@Stu1701 So?
It looked good, no reason to replace it.
It looks a bit overloaded and squished imo. Maybe extend the shaft a bit more downwarts to declutter it and make it more clean looking. But yeah, it's good and about time that ESD gets an Update.
Pffffff Current is 100000000 times better. This Station w
Gonna remind me tha they f**** Oddysy class and hole Star Trek franchise. Good TNG space dock period.
Also 100$ that when they releas it would be so badly optimised so for next week everyone had to transfer to DS9
Are the new external 'pods' visible from the inside map?
Not that I could see, but it is still technically a work in progress, so that could change by the time it hits the live server.
I wish we would get starship interior decks not the simple CHASIM tunnels we have right now
maybee even if they feel generous a way to customize three different decks
i just wish they would change the do you want to dock to just one click. even better let me pick spacedock from the sector map.
Bleh. I like the longer look it had before, and not too thrilled about the add-on pods like the Regulus and K7 designs. Oh well.
Arriving on console 2026 😅
I doubt it'll be that long. My assumption is they'll probably want this thing to go live by the Anniversary event.
meanwhile Qo'noS and New Romulus still don't have the new Lifetime sub portal lol maybe could you ask Nick to fix that please?
Yeah sorry unnecessary change (But Earth looks nice)
Don't like the Design, prefer the classic look
And I wonder if it’ll be updated for older missions featuring esd like the undine attack and Iconian attack etc hmm
Nope. They said they'll treat it like the redesigned DS9 exterior/interior, meaning that old missions will still use the old design.
@ bummer
Jay finally got a long overdue upgrade for Earth and the space dock. The clouds on Earth look great, beautiful and realistic🤩😍
Any way i think they could spend more time on fixing bugs etc. and not on this :)
environmental art is completely different from programming...
I was waiting to see if you'd do the scene from Picard :)
is it just me or does it look too small apart from that I like it but it just doesn't feel big enough for me but maybe I'm just a size queen
still waiting till the esd revamp comes on console....
It's not live on PC either, it's just on the test server. I'm betting it'll go live around the same time as the Anniversary Event.
I personally do like this design but ESD is just so dang iconic it’s hard to justify its change especially since alot of the other elements from Picard were not added due to them conflicting. Also far too small
Everything looks gorgeous.
I don't like the new Earth. I prefer the old one.
6:25 Oh my god he did it...
I imagine they'll make a it a little bigger and make color it more.
The outrigger modules make it look too dumpy now. it need to be a lot longer, to balance out the outriggers. Not that this will happens. As they HAVE to copy Picard. As out ESD has been smashed at least twice, Would could have a different design...but we wont.
Hope they reuse the old model for the Fleet Museum. Let us visit the Museum, maybe even tour the interiors of the ships or something fun like that.
Needs ro be bigger
Cool. Maybe we'll get and Athan Prime with the old version. ;)
ESD.
That is fugly as hell!
It's as trash as the show itself!
I am always in such a rush with the all the alts I have been running. I should go through the current ESD before it's erased for new trek. At least this does not look like as much of an abomination as some of the stuff they have added in recent years. Not disrespecting the visual effects designers or their skills. But a beautiful sculpture made out of poop is still poop no matter how pretty it may be or how much turd polish they put on it.
i found star trek Picard boring
This feels ordered by someone at CBS, not someone working on the game.
Probably to have a single continuity.
@@gmradio2436 You're mistaken, but you do you, kid.
That new spacedock looks a bit small. I'm not liking it so much. Maybe if it was larger it'll grow on me.
It feels like a step backwards in evolution. I mean we fought a decisive battle for the sol system and now it feels like the current ESD is being scrapped.
I like the TOS elements of the Picard version, but at least give us a story as to why ESD had to renovate again.
Ill say it I love the station from picard, picard did ALOT right for how problemic the show is in general
That's alot of missions they'll have to edit just to add this station, I still prefer the spacedock starbase and it shall be missed though the new earth design looks perfect
Ugh. ESD version 4, the worst of them all.
I think the new spackdock exterior looks really good
Oh god what an ugly monstrosity that "new" ESD is.
Looks like a mix between TMP and the old TOS deep space stations
@@LyntheWicker No, it looks like they stacked another ESD on top of ESD and just made the one on top wider. Really disappointing.
@rickvanboberson look at K-13. Tell me the outrigged pods aren't a similar design choice
@@LyntheWicker look at the stations they have in std and snw same thing. Over use of pods. K-13 at least looks nice and era appropriate
Well, I like it ❤
Will bee nise if the old ESD beekams the Fleet mozeem
I very like the new Space Dock from Picard, at least with this new tactical pods, but I must say, that the Space Dock from now has a very good graphic model with excellent windows, like the recreation of the Odyssey-class.
Thanks, I hate it.
Thank you for covering it.
I don't like it! , it looks shitty like the Picard show was; I'm glad that show finished all it did a rehash of some Star Trek movies it's not brilliant it's very lazy and the Star base it's just a copy of Star Trek Timeline and variations discovery star base again not brilliant but very lazy!!
finally smth new....
