Maborosi is a good film. I heard Hirokazu Kore-eda hadn't thought 《Maborosi》is his own film, but I think every artists start by copying the others, and Kore-eda make it nicely. So, although Maborosi isn't his own, it is one of the best film of his filmography obviously.
