The thing about such colleges is thst we don't get opportunities for internships. Companies don't hire students for internships, leave that aside, but even when students get internships through off campus, we come across attendance issues. We hardly get 1 or 2 month long vacations, so doing internships is next to impossible. I did one internship of a month, that too I had to bunk for a week. And I had a really tough time compensating for that.

9:39 I have a different competing view. I am from a Tier-3 college now working in Zeta. My initial push for ML(and getting published) gave me the opportunity to crack GSoC; from there that GSoC tag helped me land in job interviews for companies which would have outright thrown away my resume by the digital filter. Hence ML played a crucial role in making me end up, where I am today (even during the pandemic)!!

While Rachit has given a really great advice, but the thing is that the situation in the third tier college is like really really bad.
It is bad at every level possible. No quality professors(they know next to nothing), no proper management, even college festivals are shit. Additional taunts from parents make things worse. It is really difficult for a student to cope up with these. At every level, you are reminded that your college is shit and not an IIT. Students stop caring about their career after certain point of time and do not study at all. They get lured into bad influence to forget all this and accept it as their fate. This results into even more jobless students.
If any guy reading is confused whether to take an additional drop year or to get admitted in a 3rd tier college, kindly do yourself a favour, take a drop year and work hard next time. Just my rant.
    Great video btw.

@@pranayavnish8028 Actually it depends on what you define as success in my opinion you can create businesses through which you can earn same amount of money as a good job(google sde 1) by the time you end your four years but then you have to concentrate on profits and revenue more than unsustainable growth and vc funding.
I would say business of the same earning as a good engineer in india is equivalent difficulty.
And another big problem with these failure statistics is that there is no barrier of entry(very little) for example a doctor has to complete his degree to start his earning so obviously it would seem that doctors have higher success rate than lets say a businessman but you fail to understand that doctors or good engineers are already selected out of many other people so there is a barrier of entry unlike business where there is practically none i.e. people who know nothing about business and its basics enter into this field as well.
So your odds are already drastically improved if you improve your knowledge and have reasonable goals(a good earning such that you can earn same amount as you would doing in tier 1 jobs)

Could you please elaborate? I am from Nepal and I m 19. I also want to learn ML. Recently I have learnt Python and thinking of getting some knowledge in ML and deep learning. On searching for resources, I found almost every expert recommending the same course Rachit has mentioned in video. Could you show me tha path to focus? My ultimate goal is to end up in a good US company (not necessarily Google, MS)

    • @amanbhanse5645
      @amanbhanse5645 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@nirojsedhai8661 if your goal is to get a job in good company especially product based ,then just practice problem solving , practice coding , make sure you know atleast one Object oriented language(java is preferred) , DBMS , OS and CN , this mentioned things will helps you to get good job.
And talking about ML and deep learning , this subjects are very vast and required more attention and more time. If you focus on this properly and if you are good at mathematics and programming especially in python (note that python is easy if you consider it to solve Normal problem but when it come to python for ML and deep learning then it's complexity increases alot!!!!!!)then surely you can became master over it.
But this will not help you in interview hence will not help to get a job.
Sadly very less companies looks for this skills.
And again down side of learning ML and Deep learning is that since it will take most of ur time then you can't really focus on Computer science fundamentals.
For example ,Speaking from my experience while giving interviews for companies like vertias, deustche ,etc. I have done most of my projects in ML and deep learning , but the company rarely asked questions about it.
Hence I would suggest to focus on computer science fundamentals instead of ML and Deep learning.

Prepare your core subjects and DSA, you will be good to go.
Data Science is surely a wonderful world to enter in, but during an undergraduate course, well don't dig in too deep I would say!

Yes many are hyped about machine/deep learning but the problem the company faces is with deployment of the models with good metrics. So if a person is good at machine learning then he can pickup web dev, cloud computing services like gcp,aws so that he can deploy the models. This also shows that he/she has hands on experience of ml, web, software engineering skills which makes the resume impressive. Many of them just train the model and leave it without deployment as they finish andrew Ng course and jump away. I know some of them who don't even have knowledge of graph algorithms like bfs,DFS but straight away starts with ml and thinks they can conquer the world by their skills🤦🤦

Bro i have done everything still unplaced... I have my website (built from scratch) , I have a good hold on DS & Algo, system design and CA. Still unplaced. I'm preparing for Mtech now, with no hopes, at least by getting into old IITs or IISc Bengaluru would help me get many opportunity to get into core software product based companies that too in decent package with good college environment and healthy competition. In tier 3 college, you yourself have to create and build opportunity for placements and also prepare them all by yourself, no senior will help you, no one will be there for guiding you, no one of seniors will be in those top dream companies of yours to get a contact of HR, so that you get opportunity for placements. it takes hell lot of work then an avg. iitian or nitian has to do. as companies come to their college and recruit and this part is handled by their T&P department, so student can prepare more focusedly and try his luck to every company
that comes to his campus for recruitment. This process you told seems nice to listen, but in actual world doing this much labor in a tier 3 college will also not guarantee you the placement for sure. imagine the pain after that./

I think you're heavily underestimating ML jobs. The technical market is swaying steadily towards AI oriented jobs. In e-commerce sectors, the use of recommender systems is used for personalized recommendations which is migrating to other forms of websites as well. And this was just one field, there are many other sectors where ML is deployed and so many sectors it'll be in future. At the same time, I feel the need of software engineers will never diminish as they're required to support the ML engineers. They go hand in hand and it's just a matter of time before people ML becomes trend in India like software development is right now.

@@rishabh7011 In my first 5 semester I pretty much did only competitive programming. In feb of 2020 I attended the Nykaa meet up in gurgaon that talk inspired me a lot and that was it when I decided to do web development and yes in that meetup there were some really successful guys who never did CP in their entire life .Okay, so at first I started with Django, which I really hated because of python(I dont like python at all). After that I started with React JS.. I didn't know JS at that time but because of my JAVA background( I used to do CP with java) I found JS pretty easy initially, I don't know if it is actually the case. So for react I bought a udemy course of maximilian schwarzmüller and believe me I was coding 10-11 hrs straight every single day. I pretty much relied on anything other than GFG for resources, I don't recommend GFG at all because many a times there codes are wrong. Right now I'm doing my internship as frontend developer(using react js and some other libraries and frameworks) and I'm also working on a website for a startup.

Our college had good professors, but I am still seeking to learn about advanced coding, and can you let me know about the approaches people from such institutes can take, since they are in the middle-ground

That was a good point about not doing anything because you have very less time but doing it because you have to do it at one point in time anyways

What a 4th year student from a three tier college can do now to get placed in fang if he has his joining in a service based company after a month.

    • @ApoorvaAmbhoj
      @ApoorvaAmbhoj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

You can join the service based if you don't have any other option to join currently. And start preparing for DSA and competitive programming along with your job. Look for opportunities you can get using the skills you gain then.
Or if you are interested in a particular technology, start preparing for that and join a start up.
Your next switch can be faang. If you have start up experience and your DSA is good.

Bro I am now going in 4 th year
And I am practicing DSA from last 5 months and just started CP
I am about to reach 5 star at hackerRank
What I was asking should I really do CP or focus on web development because am lacking in projects.
Should I just focus on leetcode
      And web development projects?

I feel like why to run for things and thinking too much , if i have been in 1st year, i would do this and that , do what you want to do at any instant of time. Any day can be the day you can put your efforts for. And don't be consistent on one thing. Explore multiple and see how life fun and exciting life seems ! May be today one can be an expert as SE, but may be he can very good into some other things which he has never tried. So i must say one must explore different things and never lose hopes.

I am preparing for JEE right now. Is there a higher tier college that teaches CS courses, but takes admission based on CS skills (DS and Algos) rather than PCM? I would like to give that a shot.
