- New York Knicks rumors are heating up as NBA Free Agency is right around the corner. Isaiah Hartenstein rumors leading into free agency suggest that the Oklahoma City Thunder could be the top landing spot for the defensive minded big man. Hartenstein can re-sign with the Knicks for up to $72.5 MM over 4 years whereas OKC can offer him much more than that since the Knicks only have his early bird rights. Stefan Bondy of the NY Post is reporting that OKC as a Hartenstein free agency destination is a real possibility. The expectation around the league is that some team with cap space and in need of a more traditional center will come in over the top and offer more - north of $80 million and closer to $90 million for four years - and Hartenstein will take it…That leaves a lot of teams with cap space eyeing Hartenstein and an expectation in league circles that the bidding will start at $20 million a season, or four years, $80 million, which is more than the Knicks can offer.
The Thunder is viewed by NBA sources as the top threat to pry Hartenstein away from the Knicks in free agency.

@@ramonlavin7210 They quite literally cannot do this. Per the CBA & Hartenstein’s career so far, the max NYK can offer is is 4y/$72.5 million. Look at the contract breakdown at 2:20.
Also Hartenstein or Chet could play PF, but Hartenstein could come off the bench and still play a significant role. Being a starter isn’t particularly meaningful anymore

Hartenstein improved greatly and was awesome in the playoffs. He is only 26 and is on the upswing as far as ability and knowledge. If I were the Sixers I would offer him 22.5 mil for 4 years. Thats a 90 mil contract. 17.5 mil more than the Knicks could give him. He could play as a 4 and allow Embid to play point center ala Jockic. That would weaken the Knicks and improv the rebounding of the Sixers.Its a no brainer. Knicks must have some plan up their sleeve to keep him. He is very valuable to the chemistry of the team. Knicks must keep him if they can.
Draft options are also Zach Edny, Kel’el Ware etc. I really like Kel’el Ware. One of those and Ryan Dunn is my draft.

I’m no GM and I’m ignorant to how some of these negotiations go, but can’t the Knicks sign IHart to a one year $50 million contract and then sign him the following year to a longer contract?
Aside from IHart’s rebounding and shot blocking, I think his biggest contribution to the team his assists percentage, which I think will only get better. He has a high basketball IQ

Well, money is the deal, but the only team you show on the list who made a playoff run and was a serious contender was OKC . He isn't guaranteed he will be a great fit in that chemistry of players Bronson is a true point guard and a killer on the pick in roll with him it would be a mistake for him to go anywhere else but money talks in the NBA not sense.

As a Thunder fan, this feels like IHart's agent making sure he gets the full $72.5m from the Knicks, or a smokescreen from OKC for another move. Chet struggled the most when teams crossmatched Giddey at Center, because he was too timid to shoot over quicker SF/PF's. OKC needs a bigger PF that can space the floor, not a C. Look at what the Celtics built, that should be the Thunder blueprint, replace Giddey with Sniper PF that can grab rebounds, defend well, and actually box out that nobody but Chet did all season.
What about trying to get Nix Claxton?? and have him start instead of Robinson
