    This was the first baseball game I ever went to! I was five years old, and I've been a Mets fan ever since.

    Gary Carter must've swung one of the biggest bats in the league. Always looked like he was up there with a redwood

    Unfortunately this video is missing most of the 4th inning, where the Mets scored 5 runs to up their lead to 11-1.

    From 1985 to 1988 the METS were a very intimidating ball club.

    Funny how Scully & Joe talk about here the Howard Johnson for Walt Terrell trade being one sided so far in favor of Detroit but wait and see in a couple years to really evaluate a deal and they couldn't have been more right. It took a few years but Howard Johnson began to really perform in 87 & that year, 89 * 91 he had great seasons, All Star level and was a 30/30 guy 2 or 3 times as well. Def BETTER trade for the Mets

      Terrell was great though, that solid third starter who ate up innings

    85 Mets were right there, ended up with 98 wins and 2 games behind the Cardinals. If there was a Wildcard back then the Mets would have made the playoffs in both 84 & 85.

      it always hurt me that the Mets couldnt make the playoffs in 1985. It was the best Mets team of that era (1983-1990).

      @@ThePhenomm NL East was a tougher division in 85, more competition.

    Who knew Leo Mazzone was co-pitching coach for the Braves in 1985? I don't know if it was the whole season, but I looked it up when I saw him at 14:45.

    Eddie Ha-ha-haas wouldn’t last the season. 1985-90 was a horrible time to be a Braves fan

      It was some horrible years, but when you look back now and see who they had coming into their farm system starting in ‘86 it’s easy to see how they turn things around so quickly in ‘91

    • @Sweetish_Jeff_
      @Sweetish_Jeff_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back then, Dale Murphy was the Atlanta Braves. The main reason to watch those games on TBS. They were a dumpster fire, but they were slowly building that farm system and the results showed over the next decade.

      And it all really began with that horrific event in 1984 with the Padres, when they had all those brawls. That's likely what got Joe Torre fired at the end of that season, despite finishing in second place in the NL West for the second straight year, and Eddie Haas was a disaster, and his replacement, Chuck Tanner, wasn't much better, culminating in a crash in 1988. It must also be noted that they had some of the worst luck regarding injuries, particularly regarding Bob Horner, who was almost never healthy, and Bruce Sutter, among others. And the field at Fulton County Stadium wasn't in much better shape than the team was, and it may not be a coincidence that their turnaround came at about the same time that they fixed the playing field at Fulton County Stadium.
