These 1000% should have been commander precon decks, the same way they did with Dr Who and warhammer etc. Honestly I thought these WERE gunna be precon decks the whole time right up until prerelease and was completely dumbfounded that they weren't. But when has Ha$bro ever done something stupid?? lol
But what would the decks have been? Honestly, AC just didn't have the depth necessary for a Magic set. And I wouldn't be surprised if many on R&D thought so too. Don't be surprised if 5 years from now, Maro does a DtW episode admitting it was a mistake they learned from.

And each deck is themed to a different time period, grouped together with the most appropriate other game e.g., America's, ancient Greece and Egypt, revolutionary france and Victorian Britain. In terms of synergy just use the ones they mostly have already. Assassin's matters/ Equipment/Vehicles/ Sagas/ combat tricks And all the decks would have historic as a theme.
100% agree. It should have just been the standard release like Dr. WHO or Fallout were it was Commander decks and collectors boosters. Whoever thought, let's do aftermath boosters again for our next universes beyond should be fired for that.
I mean, who would've bought those though? At least this way they can cut their losses and dump the set and we'll forget about it. If they did the full thing like you said, we'd be laughing at them for years like we will be with the Aftermath boosters.

The Dr who/fallout release should be the standard for non lotr sized UB releases. Furthermore, they had more than enough time to fix how they release AC with how much negative feedback they received to aftermath packs. There was supposed to be aftermath style packs in outlaws but then rolled them into the main set cause of how bad aftermath packs were. Even now with bloomburrow they're adding those poor man's packs with a chance to have no rares.

I’ll confess that I’ve preordered Bloomburrow. I didn’t buy any MH3 or AC so I could save for our fuzzy friends. Didn’t get collector boosters though. Just a booster box. As a teenager, I always wanted to be able to buy a box and open up the entire thing. Now I can. So I’m part of the problem this time.
There are some really good unique cards tbh. It's not part of the problem to invest in the sets you enjoy. Only buying collector boxes to open and resale or buy secrete lairs to buy and sale at double the price... those are ppl/businesses contributing to the problem.
Having recently gotten back into magic, the bloomburrow card previews have simply looked far more interesting than some of the previous sets. So I think it’s a far safer preorder
Suggestion to add visual and audio flare everytime the professor guesses a price right (within maybe $1 dollar?) since it seems to be rarer than a serial pull
My wife loves AC and MTG. She preordered three boxes and we pulled a serialized Leonardo and two textured cards. This set has its problems but seeing her joy made me happy.

Conversely, sets like Bloomburrow make me glad they ditched the block structure. If they still did 2-set blocks, then it would take twice as long to move on from unappealing sets, and WOTC no longer have the ability to generate appeal for a set beyond the niche media subgenre chosen for it.

Honestly bloomburrow is feeling like a real obstacle to me right now. Especially as cedh player (who won't be playing a single card from bloomburrow, because they aren't strong enough.) Just want it over with so we can get onto duskmourn. The world is boring and lifeless to me (compared to previous 'cute' sets like lorwin that had a unique story and lore) the cutesy vibe is sickening, the cards are all ultra weak, the planeswalker alt arts weren't necessary besides appeasing the furries. Duskmourn looks to be strong and dark, can't wait.
@@tnttv5360 They could have done, but the best case scenario would be that I only had two things making me completely disinterested in Thunder Junction, instead of three. You can have the best developed cowboy world ever conceived, wouldn't change the fact I'm personally not any more interested in the genre's best entries as I am its worst. If WOTC was to successfully do 2-set blocks again, it would need to consistently find block themes that are diverse enough to fit in a range of ideas that can appeal to a range of people. "MTG does genre" is struggling to even work for 1-set at a time.
Only part I care about for this set is the legendary equipment. And only because I can make dog voltron look even more absurd. Dogmeat about to run up on you in power armor, having angel wings, eldrazi tentacles, wearing boots, and carrying a giant hammer twice his size, a throwing knife, mjolnir, Excalibur, the staff of Hermes, the shadowspear, Avacyn's moonsilver spear, 5 different swords, and a throwing knife.
The shop I usually go to sold me a collector booster box of MKM for 20% off. I was going to buy a pack when he offered the discount, saying “I ordered way too much.”
I think I’ll enjoy Bloomburrow but it surprises me to hear people perceive “Magic:Redwall” as a different type of gimmick than “Magic:Cowboy” or “Magic:MerderMystery”

I’ve opened nine (9) Assassin’s Creed boosters and got nothing of value, this is bonkers bad, never buying Beyond Boosters ever again EDIT: Imagine spending 30 euros to open a pack and you get something like the second pack the Prof’s opened, 0 value, 0 good cards, just draft chaff (also you cannot draft this set)
I think the crux of the issue with "overvaluing" the UB products, particularly the premium stuff, is that the set is specifically designed to bring Assassins Creed fans into the Magic world, with the bonus of pleasing AC fans already entrenched in Magic. From comments I have seen online it has been relatively successful at that, but it is extremely difficult to convince those people that one booster pack is worth $5 and another is worth $30. They won't assign personal value like that until they really start to get into the game or collecting.
universes beyond as a whole is just desperate short-term profit chasing. hasbro is hemorrhaging money, they're scrambling to try to appeal to a bunch of random, disparate fanbases of other media properties at the expense of their own IP's identity and long-term health as a game and product.
I am really upset with the way the set turned put. I wanted a fleshed out set with many more AC legendary figures. I wanted a commander set tbh as it is my favorite format to watch and play. I like the cards but it felt rushed in between the sets we are getting this year.
It worked for LOTR though. It didn't work for AC because no one is as strong of an Assassin's Creed fan as anyone is a fan of LOTR. Even to AC fans, AC is just a fun game, not a universe and group of characters they're obsessed with enough to buy little pictures of them.
It's just FOMO, plain and simple. Shops have to make the preorders long before spoiler season, so anyone who wants to have a shot on these limited print run products has to commit early on risk to be left behind. Later on, when the actual players start evaluating the product based on card power the prices adapt. Which doesn't necessarily mean they will drop.
I really don't want you to have to quote that 10:38 "they wouldn't do that, they're not stupid" in the near future. I really want you to be right about that one. Value boosters are one thing, but a whole set only accessible through these tiny boosters is so dumb.

I agree, it´s fun to think how Bloomburrow takes itself more serious than Duskmourn, it´s crazy. I also not sure how to feel the Duskmourn it's just an excuse to make references from the 80s. Im sure Bloomburrow will be my favorite set of the year.

I went to my local shop looking for the bundle, mainly for the die. They were sold out and recommended I check out a Toysrus down the road, so I went over there to find no bundle, but a collector pack tucked away and decided, why not. I get home, open it up, and pull a textured Edward Kenway alongside an extended Black Market Connections. It was the first pack I picked up; I think I'll stop right there with this set. 😅

I was in middle school when they reprinted Icy Manipulator in Ice Age and I truly believed Icy into Royal Assassin was the most powerful thing anybody could do in Magic
I remember the nettling imp royal assassin combo. I was in grade school at the time. It seems like being in high school when Smells Like Teen Spirit was on the pop charts was quite the time to be alive.
Man, I've played magic for about 3 years now and I still have never purchased or opened a booster box of cards. It's been something I've always wanted to do but feel priced out logically, while these videos provide clarity I gotta admit that the childhood dream is still there lol.
I still look back on the day that I pre-ordered mystery booster boxes in 2019/2020 for under $100 each and opened a mana crypt that paid for 2x the box in all 3 boxes. I think this was the only instance I've ever seen that people could've won big pre-ordering a sealed product.
As a lover of the AC franchise, I had to pick up a box! Of course, wish there were more cards, but imagine how cool it would have been if they had commander precons! This set makes awesome commander decks.
I've been preordering draft boxes but that exclusively because my lgs has a deal where if you preorder draft prize support is covered, so preordering allows me and my friends to draft with prize support relatively cheaply. If it weren't for that i don't think even draft preorders would be worth the risk for me.
I just got into magic about 2 months ago and have been having a lot of fun on mtga learning the basics. I bought the LOTR start decks WG and BR. I am a huge assassins creed fan and am kinda disappointed they did not add the assassins creeds cards to the game they look pretty but I do not have anyone to play with in person yet. Thanks for opening the packs so I can at least see an enjoy the artwork. Love the channel and im looking forward to seeing more of the videos :)
after two years, i only print cards myself that I like, i stopped buying cards. maybe buy a pack here or there ( with the bloomburrow set) for the feeling of opening a pack. Print em and put em in a sleve from a commom card - i have thousands of cards that i dont use. that money is so much better spent literally everywhere else. its just cardboard. imagine spending hundreds of colored cardboard
The problem is that there are too many variants of each card, and each variant has too many copies in circulation, so supply outpaces demand. Opening a single box and being able to pull 3-4 copies of cards that are supposed to be rares is not good for the aftermarket value. It's a shame to see so many beautiful cards with a bulk price. Honestly I don't mind seeing the normal version of the card being cheap so people can play the game, but they should scale back the number of variants to one type of special treatment per set, and make the special versions harder to obtain. Do the same with foils.
I wish we didn't have collector booster boxes opening a foil valuable card used to be such a pop off moment because you knew that one card paid for most of your box and u could keep the rest. But that doesn't make Hasbro as much money so we're out of luck
I swear that the best value in assassin's creed is the full art lands in the play boosters. If you consider having to pay shipping from multiple vendors grabbing 1-2 full art land at a time, you'll likely get better value buying a play booster box or a gift box if you want to pick up a bunch of the lands, especially at the $100 price point
The only good thing about this set is now I’ll be able to pick up a copy of conspiracy for my disa the restless deck, even if its referencing AC odyssey of all games… I completely skipped this set though, as you said, 7 card boosters are miserable, I accidentally bought an aftermath bundle before I was super into the game, and those were awful to open, just so many duplicates

I commented on the beyond booster video that I preordered a beyond booster box and a collector booster box. I think my beyond booster box was $120 and the collector booster box was just under $300. If I had known tracking prices could have provided useful data to you, I would have kept them separated but they are now all together and mixed up in decks and in my collection box. Will keep noted for the future. Regarding my pack opening experience though, I mentioned in my previous comment, but I had a blast with it. I certainly lost money, but the enjoyment I get out having cards revolving around one of my favorite video game series more than compensates personally. I would agree, these would have been much better as commander decks, but for a small set revolving around a Universes Beyond setting, I can swallow this setup, but certainly will be more patient and judicious with my spending next time.
In the end the only Assassin's Creed products I was interested in buying are... Singles. A Shay Cormac for my Eriette, that version of Terminate because a card depicting the death of Julius Caesar in a Caesar deck is just funny, and hey Reconnaissance reprints is good for tanking the value of a card that was previously only printed once.
I have a best guess on the new 7 card standard boosters w/ sometimes no rares: Two possible markets: 1. Kitchen table players who want to maybe try shuffling in new cards into their kitchen table decks, but have seen the increase in price in play boosters and determined it's not worth a pack. 2. Whales who buy almost exclusively collector boosters who still want to complete a set after getting every rare/mythic, but distribution of collector boosters include fewer commons and uncommons.
Nah, the market is people who don't play magic. They are doing it first with bloomburrow cause the cutesy set will appeal more to kids. They are trying to get kids with little spending money interested, parents of kids bugging them to buy them something in the checkout line, and people who know a magic player but don't play the game themselves, looking for something to give the magic player, thats cheap, without doing any research. Its 100% a product for people who don't know better, ie anyone who isn't an established player that knows the best way to get cards.
I've opened 2 boosters is all but I had great luck! First pack was Desynchronization with a foil Sword of Feast and Famine behind it and 2nd pack was Yggdrasil with a foil Cover of Darkness. 3/4 of those cards immediately found homes in my decks.
I'm brand new to magic. it seems magic the gathering has gotten quite a boost in popularity and i decided to get into it. VERY EXPENSIVE TO GET INTO LOL. fun nonetheless thanks for the awesome videos professor.
I recently got into it as well, but I've found out it really doesn't have to be expensive to have fun. There are decent intro level commander precon decks for $20-40 that I have won with in my friend group multiple times and there is always room to upgrade the precon itself later on if you feel like spending more. Hello Fresh seeing the cards and thinking “Dang I wish we just sponsored the Bloomburrow booster box game instead.” I am preordering all 4 bloomburrow commander decks and a booster box but I dont think i’ll feel screwed just because I’ll be using the booster box to host a draft night with friends so I’ll consider it worth it for the fun times.
I love how prof lets his own bias for preferring the etched foil cards leak through into his price estimates when they are just about always cheaper than the other arts in foil
Since all the cards would be common or uncommon the Booster Box Game for Value Boosters would be a super light lift, Prof. Would be an interesting follow up on products people shouldn't buy.
The only real exception to where pre-ordering will save you money is on buying commander deck bundles. If you and/or friends are intending to buy all 4 decks - then the cheapest way to get them is in the small window after they are announced and face commander images are shown but before the decklists come out. Consistent across sets over the last 2 years that has been the cheapest window to purchase them. i.e. in that window bloomburrow decks dropped to between $125 and $130 for the set of 4. Getting all 4 decks at an average price of 32.50 is going to be the best deal you can ever find. Sure some precons (the bad ones) will drop to $30 a few months after launch but the average and good ones will hold their value for a year or longer. The same pattern held true on MH3 - if you go back and look at ebay history - when that window hit there were multiple places offering all 4 decks at $180 which in hindsight is a great deal if you intend to get them all anyway. This is a small instance case though as I know a lot of people buy no pre-cons or only the ones they like.
i think the actual standard sets are usually not a bad deal to preorder, u might pay a small premium but like if a booster box is going for $120 pre-sale, it will probably be years and years before it drops sub $90
22:40 on what Prof was saying about getting your value; even if you’re lucky enough to make your money back and you sell all of the valuable stuff- you’ll still have all the bulk that no one will buy. Will it fit in any deck you have? A cube? Is it worth it to build a deck around it or with it? Also what the odds of you wanting to keep anything valuable? (Which is fine!)
I love Assassin’s Creed and knew I had to get this set. Luckily I’ve seen these videos before and just ordered every single ACR single for about $100 total XD
Thunder junction was treated like a spaghetti western or like Blazing Saddles was a western, Bloomburrow is being given the reverence of high fantasy that you'd expect. It's not a parody of its setting.
I agree that this set should have been commander decks. My biggest problem is that I was so excited for this set and each pack feels like I just am not getting the bang for the buck. I’ve not even found much in the way of singles at my local stores- and I think that’s also because of how few cards are in the packs. Even if there were more cards and I got some more repeats, it would at least give me some deck creation or trade fodder.

Once I found out that at the day Bloomburrow comes out it is also my Birthday, I was done with everything else MtG wise. It is nearly everything I wanted from a fantasy animal setting. The only miniscule gripe I have is that it is missing Hamsters. Give us the cute little rodents.
Got a collectors box and 1 collector booster. Got 2 textured Edward’s and most of the rest of the set. For me at least it was worth it. The deck is really fun.

Last time I preordered was the original jumpstart. I got a great price at the time and they turned out to be very scare to begin with so I made a good amount of money on the singles. I don’t see this happening anymore
Funny story I Pre ordered an AC Collectors box from a local LCG online for $269 the night Rudy made his video about how short printed it was and withing hours the price on TCG player was $400. The next morning i got the email that my order was cancelled "out of stock" only to go back on the website and see the price increased to $399. Funny part is they never sold any boxes and within a few days after release they dropped to $279 and now back to $269. Also collecting One Piece and Pokemon I'm no stranger to pre orders getting cancelled but its funny how this one finally went the other way. Long story short I wouldn't buy another box from them if it was $50 and instead i just bought a few retail Omega boxes to put in my sealed display.
I think Bloomburrow is gonna be a DND source book. Could be reading in too much but it feels like they’re putting a lot into the setting and that would make sense.
I would actually rank the prices of the cards not only by the materials to make them but also for how rare or common they are because the rarer the card is, the higher the price is.
I only preorder if I shop around and find a decent deal. I got one of these boxes for close to $220 after tax & shipping as a preorder and was able to get my value back in singles.
The issue with sets like this is the amount of money spent developing common and uncommon cards, which are typically only good for drafting shoved into packs that can't be drafted. Assassian's Creed should have been a bonus sheet that came out with MH3. With an Assassian's Creed commander deck serving as that set's 5th commander deck. The collector boosters could have a guaranteed AC card and the MH3 play boosters a 1 in 12 shot at AC cards. If they want to do mini-boosters, have a 3-card pack one land (common to mythic), one rare/mythic slot, and one wildcard common/mythic/special guest slot for $2-3.
That's the worst of both worlds - people who want AC cards have to spend immense sums of money to get them - which also puts off any AC fans who might have tried MTG if the prices were reasonable, and people who don't want AC cards miss out on having a good bonus sheet.

Conversely, sets like Bloomburrow make me glad they ditched the block structure. If they still did 2-set blocks, then it would take twice as long to move on from unappealing sets, and WOTC no longer have the ability to generate appeal for a set beyond the niche media subgenre chosen for it.

Honestly bloomburrow is feeling like a real obstacle to me right now. Especially as cedh player (who won't be playing a single card from bloomburrow, because they aren't strong enough.)

The world is boring and lifeless to me (compared to previous 'cute' sets like lorwin that had a unique story and lore) the cutesy vibe is sickening, the cards are all ultra weak, the planeswalker alt arts weren't necessary besides appeasing the furries.
Duskmourn looks to be strong and dark, can't wait.

You can have the best developed cowboy world ever conceived, wouldn't change the fact I'm personally not any more interested in the genre's best entries as I am its worst.
If WOTC was to successfully do 2-set blocks again, it would need to consistently find block themes that are diverse enough to fit in a range of ideas that can appeal to a range of people. "MTG does genre" is struggling to even work for 1-set at a time.
Only part I care about for this set is the legendary equipment. And only because I can make dog voltron look even more absurd. Dogmeat about to run up on you in power armor, having angel wings, eldrazi tentacles, wearing boots, and carrying a giant hammer twice his size, a throwing knife, mjolnir, Excalibur, the staff of Hermes, the shadowspear, Avacyn's moonsilver spear, 5 different swords, and a throwing knife.
You need more throwing knives

The shop I usually go to sold me a collector booster box of MKM for 20% off. I was going to buy a pack when he offered the discount, saying “I ordered way too much.”
I think I’ll enjoy Bloomburrow but it surprises me to hear people perceive “Magic:Redwall” as a different type of gimmick than “Magic:Cowboy” or “Magic:MerderMystery”
Redwall, Mouseguard and Guardians of Ga'hool are all great series. Read them all as a kid.
Woodland Critters is absolutely a meme/gimmick. That said, it does mesh w/ magic better, its more organic. Hence the better reception on theming.

I think the crux of the issue with "overvaluing" the UB products, particularly the premium stuff, is that the set is specifically designed to bring Assassins Creed fans into the Magic world, with the bonus of pleasing AC fans already entrenched in Magic. From comments I have seen online it has been relatively successful at that, but it is extremely difficult to convince those people that one booster pack is worth $5 and another is worth $30. They won't assign personal value like that until they really start to get into the game or collecting.
universes beyond as a whole is just desperate short-term profit chasing. hasbro is hemorrhaging money, they're scrambling to try to appeal to a bunch of random, disparate fanbases of other media properties at the expense of their own IP's identity and long-term health as a game and product.
I am really upset with the way the set turned put. I wanted a fleshed out set with many more AC legendary figures. I wanted a commander set tbh as it is my favorite format to watch and play. I like the cards but it felt rushed in between the sets we are getting this year.
It worked for LOTR though. It didn't work for AC because no one is as strong of an Assassin's Creed fan as anyone is a fan of LOTR. Even to AC fans, AC is just a fun game, not a universe and group of characters they're obsessed with enough to buy little pictures of them.
It's just FOMO, plain and simple. Shops have to make the preorders long before spoiler season, so anyone who wants to have a shot on these limited print run products has to commit early on risk to be left behind. Later on, when the actual players start evaluating the product based on card power the prices adapt. Which doesn't necessarily mean they will drop.
All I'm asking for is another kaldheim set. I love the theme and want to go back.
I really don't want you to have to quote that 10:38 "they wouldn't do that, they're not stupid" in the near future. I really want you to be right about that one. Value boosters are one thing, but a whole set only accessible through these tiny boosters is so dumb.

Prof shows again why he was an English Peofessor and not Math lmao. I was so excited, he said he was at $150, and that the last card was worth $17, and there was the counter, sitting at $167...and then he said $199
I went to my local shop looking for the bundle, mainly for the die. They were sold out and recommended I check out a Toysrus down the road, so I went over there to find no bundle, but a collector pack tucked away and decided, why not. I get home, open it up, and pull a textured Edward Kenway alongside an extended Black Market Connections. It was the first pack I picked up; I think I'll stop right there with this set. 😅
Hot take: I thoroughly enjoyed my assassins creed bundle. Definitely got my moneys worth, and just built an Edward kenway commander deck.

The one thing that really made me mad was that the spindown in the AC bundle was not oversized. It was the final straw for me.
I didn't realize that either until I opened the bundles, and it was a huge buzz kill.
I still look back on the day that I pre-ordered mystery booster boxes in 2019/2020 for under $100 each and opened a mana crypt that paid for 2x the box in all 3 boxes. I think this was the only instance I've ever seen that people could've won big pre-ordering a sealed product.
As a lover of the AC franchise, I had to pick up a box! Of course, wish there were more cards, but imagine how cool it would have been if they had commander precons! This set makes awesome commander decks.
That end had me at the edge of my seat. Prof almost guessed perfectly.
I've been preordering draft boxes but that exclusively because my lgs has a deal where if you preorder draft prize support is covered, so preordering allows me and my friends to draft with prize support relatively cheaply. If it weren't for that i don't think even draft preorders would be worth the risk for me.
I just got into magic about 2 months ago and have been having a lot of fun on mtga learning the basics. I bought the LOTR start decks WG and BR. I am a huge assassins creed fan and am kinda disappointed they did not add the assassins creeds cards to the game they look pretty but I do not have anyone to play with in person yet. Thanks for opening the packs so I can at least see an enjoy the artwork. Love the channel and im looking forward to seeing more of the videos :)

after two years, i only print cards myself that I like, i stopped buying cards. maybe buy a pack here or there ( with the bloomburrow set) for the feeling of opening a pack. Print em and put em in a sleve from a commom card - i have thousands of cards that i dont use. that money is so much better spent literally everywhere else. its just cardboard. imagine spending hundreds of colored cardboard

The problem is that there are too many variants of each card, and each variant has too many copies in circulation, so supply outpaces demand. Opening a single box and being able to pull 3-4 copies of cards that are supposed to be rares is not good for the aftermarket value. It's a shame to see so many beautiful cards with a bulk price.
Honestly I don't mind seeing the normal version of the card being cheap so people can play the game, but they should scale back the number of variants to one type of special treatment per set, and make the special versions harder to obtain. Do the same with foils.
gambling. People like to gamble. The house always wins. If you want cards buy singles. If you want to gamble, buy packs/boxes.
I wish we didn't have collector booster boxes opening a foil valuable card used to be such a pop off moment because you knew that one card paid for most of your box and u could keep the rest. But that doesn't make Hasbro as much money so we're out of luck
Sorry but Bloomburrow is also Magic in a skin. I love the design shown so far and will get some, but it is the continuation of UB all year this year.

I swear that the best value in assassin's creed is the full art lands in the play boosters. If you consider having to pay shipping from multiple vendors grabbing 1-2 full art land at a time, you'll likely get better value buying a play booster box or a gift box if you want to pick up a bunch of the lands, especially at the $100 price point

The only good thing about this set is now I’ll be able to pick up a copy of conspiracy for my disa the restless deck, even if its referencing AC odyssey of all games… I completely skipped this set though, as you said, 7 card boosters are miserable, I accidentally bought an aftermath bundle before I was super into the game, and those were awful to open, just so many duplicates
I have to say, I do appreciate all of you who take the gamble to open packs so that I can buy the singles that I want and not go broke. So thank you, and keep it going!

I commented on the beyond booster video that I preordered a beyond booster box and a collector booster box. I think my beyond booster box was $120 and the collector booster box was just under $300. If I had known tracking prices could have provided useful data to you, I would have kept them separated but they are now all together and mixed up in decks and in my collection box. Will keep noted for the future. Regarding my pack opening experience though, I mentioned in my previous comment, but I had a blast with it. I certainly lost money, but the enjoyment I get out having cards revolving around one of my favorite video game series more than compensates personally. I would agree, these would have been much better as commander decks, but for a small set revolving around a Universes Beyond setting, I can swallow this setup, but certainly will be more patient and judicious with my spending next time.
In the end the only Assassin's Creed products I was interested in buying are... Singles. A Shay Cormac for my Eriette, that version of Terminate because a card depicting the death of Julius Caesar in a Caesar deck is just funny, and hey Reconnaissance reprints is good for tanking the value of a card that was previously only printed once.
I have a best guess on the new 7 card standard boosters w/ sometimes no rares:
Two possible markets:
1. Kitchen table players who want to maybe try shuffling in new cards into their kitchen table decks, but have seen the increase in price in play boosters and determined it's not worth a pack.
2. Whales who buy almost exclusively collector boosters who still want to complete a set after getting every rare/mythic, but distribution of collector boosters include fewer commons and uncommons.
Nah, the market is people who don't play magic. They are doing it first with bloomburrow cause the cutesy set will appeal more to kids. They are trying to get kids with little spending money interested, parents of kids bugging them to buy them something in the checkout line, and people who know a magic player but don't play the game themselves, looking for something to give the magic player, thats cheap, without doing any research.
Its 100% a product for people who don't know better, ie anyone who isn't an established player that knows the best way to get cards.
I've opened 2 boosters is all but I had great luck! First pack was Desynchronization with a foil Sword of Feast and Famine behind it and 2nd pack was Yggdrasil with a foil Cover of Darkness. 3/4 of those cards immediately found homes in my decks.
I'm brand new to magic. it seems magic the gathering has gotten quite a boost in popularity and i decided to get into it. VERY EXPENSIVE TO GET INTO LOL. fun nonetheless thanks for the awesome videos professor.
I recently got into it as well, but I've found out it really doesn't have to be expensive to have fun. There are decent intro level commander precon decks for $20-40 that I have won with in my friend group multiple times and there is always room to upgrade the precon itself later on if you feel like spending more. Welcome to Magic!

Hello Fresh seeing the cards and thinking “Dang I wish we just sponsored the Bloomburrow booster box game instead.” I am preordering all 4 bloomburrow commander decks and a booster box but I dont think i’ll feel screwed just because I’ll be using the booster box to host a draft night with friends so I’ll consider it worth it for the fun times.

I love how prof lets his own bias for preferring the etched foil cards leak through into his price estimates when they are just about always cheaper than the other arts in foil
Since all the cards would be common or uncommon the Booster Box Game for Value Boosters would be a super light lift, Prof. Would be an interesting follow up on products people shouldn't buy.
The only real exception to where pre-ordering will save you money is on buying commander deck bundles. If you and/or friends are intending to buy all 4 decks - then the cheapest way to get them is in the small window after they are announced and face commander images are shown but before the decklists come out. Consistent across sets over the last 2 years that has been the cheapest window to purchase them. i.e. in that window bloomburrow decks dropped to between $125 and $130 for the set of 4. Getting all 4 decks at an average price of 32.50 is going to be the best deal you can ever find. Sure some precons (the bad ones) will drop to $30 a few months after launch but the average and good ones will hold their value for a year or longer. The same pattern held true on MH3 - if you go back and look at ebay history - when that window hit there were multiple places offering all 4 decks at $180 which in hindsight is a great deal if you intend to get them all anyway. This is a small instance case though as I know a lot of people buy no pre-cons or only the ones they like.
Love the trolling the editors did by putting the images of the episodes mentioned at the end on opposite sides from where Prof pointed.
i think the actual standard sets are usually not a bad deal to preorder, u might pay a small premium but like if a booster box is going for $120 pre-sale, it will probably be years and years before it drops sub $90
22:40 on what Prof was saying about getting your value; even if you’re lucky enough to make your money back and you sell all of the valuable stuff- you’ll still have all the bulk that no one will buy. Will it fit in any deck you have? A cube? Is it worth it to build a deck around it or with it?
Also what the odds of you wanting to keep anything valuable? (Which is fine!)
I love Assassin’s Creed and knew I had to get this set. Luckily I’ve seen these videos before and just ordered every single ACR single for about $100 total XD
I pre-ordered my boxes when it first came out at $225/box, and my LGS honored it!
Thunder junction was treated like a spaghetti western or like Blazing Saddles was a western, Bloomburrow is being given the reverence of high fantasy that you'd expect. It's not a parody of its setting.

I agree that this set should have been commander decks. My biggest problem is that I was so excited for this set and each pack feels like I just am not getting the bang for the buck. I’ve not even found much in the way of singles at my local stores- and I think that’s also because of how few cards are in the packs. Even if there were more cards and I got some more repeats, it would at least give me some deck creation or trade fodder.

Once I found out that at the day Bloomburrow comes out it is also my Birthday, I was done with everything else MtG wise. It is nearly everything I wanted from a fantasy animal setting. The only miniscule gripe I have is that it is missing Hamsters. Give us the cute little rodents.
Got a collectors box and 1 collector booster. Got 2 textured Edward’s and most of the rest of the set. For me at least it was worth it. The deck is really fun.

Last time I preordered was the original jumpstart. I got a great price at the time and they turned out to be very scare to begin with so I made a good amount of money on the singles. I don’t see this happening anymore
Funny story I Pre ordered an AC Collectors box from a local LCG online for $269 the night Rudy made his video about how short printed it was and withing hours the price on TCG player was $400. The next morning i got the email that my order was cancelled "out of stock" only to go back on the website and see the price increased to $399. Funny part is they never sold any boxes and within a few days after release they dropped to $279 and now back to $269. Also collecting One Piece and Pokemon I'm no stranger to pre orders getting cancelled but its funny how this one finally went the other way. Long story short I wouldn't buy another box from them if it was $50 and instead i just bought a few retail Omega boxes to put in my sealed display.

I think Bloomburrow is gonna be a DND source book. Could be reading in too much but it feels like they’re putting a lot into the setting and that would make sense.
I would actually rank the prices of the cards not only by the materials to make them but also for how rare or common they are because the rarer the card is, the higher the price is.
I hear a lot about falling prices and market adjustments, but prices at my local game store haven't budged.
I'm pretty excited for Bloomburrow. I have a few collector boxes and booster boxes preordered. Getting excited to crack them open!

I only preorder if I shop around and find a decent deal. I got one of these boxes for close to $220 after tax & shipping as a preorder and was able to get my value back in singles.
The issue with sets like this is the amount of money spent developing common and uncommon cards, which are typically only good for drafting shoved into packs that can't be drafted. Assassian's Creed should have been a bonus sheet that came out with MH3. With an Assassian's Creed commander deck serving as that set's 5th commander deck. The collector boosters could have a guaranteed AC card and the MH3 play boosters a 1 in 12 shot at AC cards. If they want to do mini-boosters, have a 3-card pack one land (common to mythic), one rare/mythic slot, and one wildcard common/mythic/special guest slot for $2-3.
That's the worst of both worlds - people who want AC cards have to spend immense sums of money to get them - which also puts off any AC fans who might have tried MTG if the prices were reasonable, and people who don't want AC cards miss out on having a good bonus sheet.
