  • Learn how to make an easy zipper pouch you can use on the daily. This sewing project is perfect for beginners + download a free pattern. Introducing the Super Simple Everyday Pouch! This is a lined zipper pouch with curved bottom corners that can be customized in endless ways. In this step-by-step tutorial we'll be inserting a zipper, sewing basic seams, top & edge stitching & trimming seam allowances. I added a custom woven label to the lining of my pouch, but this is optional. You can make this zipper pouch in one afternoon - including tracing + cutting out pattern pieces. Fat quarter + scrap friendly!

For this project, I recommend using woven (non-stretchy) fabric of a medium weight. My version features interfaced canvas and laminated cotton for the lining. If you do use quilting cotton for the main fabric, it's best to interface (or quilt) the fabric for more stability. You can use Pellon ShapeFlex 101, one-sided fusible such as Pellon 987F Fusible Fleece, or foam stabilizer if you are doing a quilted version.

Great video. You can always use a zip bag. I have several that I use for sewing supplies. Since I have more than one machine, I use each bag to hold the feet etc for each machine.

I have been making pouches of various sizes (patterns I drafted myself), but figured there had to be a better way to install a zipper than the old top-stitch method I learned in 8th grade. This video was a total game-changer for me! Thanks so much for sharing this technique.
